Hi Ouisa! Personally, I don't use any Apple products anymore and the reasons why are price and incompatibility with some non-Apple products. I like having the ability to essentially just plug and play with most devices on my Dell.
Education and durability. I have had numerous bad experiences with windows and needed a reliable, consistenly working computer i could use for school and sims
I just bought a late 2023 M3 chip 16 gb Macbook Pro this spring and the game runs great on it. This was an upgrade from a much older MacBook Pro and the difference was staggering. I wish I had found this video while I was considering my options though because its hard to find informed discussion on how The Sims runs on macs. I play with all the packs and a TON of cc and mods (I have like 65 gb of mods), and like I say it's smooth and beautiful.
I literally started taking notes this was VERY helpful !! I'm trying to find a laptop that is good for schoolwork and editing but is also good for The Sims, since its the only game I play, so you providing info that is easily digestible for a newbie like me is *chefs kiss* I get kinda lost when numbers and terms are just thrown around to explain the product rather than using understandable terminology/examples so I really appreciated you taking the time to explain your points on both sides in a very straightforward and simple way that even I could follow :)
You should do an updated version of this video including the new M1 Baseline MacBooks which are pretty affordable and can run Sims 4 ultra settings crazy smooth!
@@EmmaDevlin2 yes! Make sure you get the m1 not the intel version! It will be able to handle the Sims 4 Ultra settings and native retina resolution at a very smooth frame rate of 60fps with all the dlc + moods
@@klaudia6966 well the ssd space is up your likings! I’d go for the 512 just cause I tend to keep my laptop for a long time and in the case of the M1 MacBook Air it has an additional graphical code but if you don’t plan on storing a lot, 256 will do fine! Now in terms of ram, 8 gb on the new M1s is pretty good BUT for future proofing I’d go for 16! Even if you get the baseline MacBook Air with m1 and the 7 core 256gb and 8gb ram it’s gonna be perfect!
Sul sul! Fellow SA Simmer! 🇿🇦 I am running all packs, DLC, and a lot of CC on my 27" iMac (2019) and my new computer baby, the M1 MacBook Pro. Funnily enough, the game runs better on the M1 chip 🤭 but a word of advice to all Mac Simmers: don't be afraid to push those graphic settings, my two computers play much smoother on 'Very High' than they do on 'Low'. I don't know why... 🤷♂️ Anyway @OuiSims, nice to meet a fellow SA Simmer! 😁
@@Blackdove0421 excuse me but how did you see anything like that in my comment??? I'm sure there are plenty muslims playing sims and making videos it's only that this channel is my first time seeing one.
The Sims 4 does not run natively on the M1 ARM (doubt there will be an update for it either) so your crutched right off the bat with x86 emulation or even worse bootcamp and windows version. So no not good for gaming without full arm M1 support. In fact much worse than even 5 year old Intel Macbook Pro's would be.
@@Classycaramell doesn’t it get really hot? I have a brand new macbook pro M1 and it gets really hot when I run the game with all the DLC’s, so i’m worried because I don’t want it to burn 🔥.

I have a 13 inch Macbook air and played the sims 4 perfectly on it and I had a LOT of cc and all the packs lmao it was fine for me just wanna put that out there.
Can you please make a video about the new iMac? I want it but I also want to be able to play in ultra high settings. I have all expansion packs and a lot of cc.
Thank you for always posting helpful videos! It’s way easier to know what to get and at what price and which is better! Also I had a question. Will Sims 4 run smoothly without downloading cc/ mods?
One of the most annoying things was when Mac updated to Caledonia (I believe?) and could only support 64 bit going forward. All of a sudden, the Sims 3 on Origin stopped working because it was an oldie and 32 bit. This was a game I had paid for ! I was heartbroken for months until I found myself a PC desktop again. I haven’t even checked back to see if Origin/EA has updated the game to 64 bit yet to accommodate Mac users who mess up and update blindly ! Great vid btw 🧡🎆
I'm so sorry to hear that that happened to you, Amy, that's terrible! The Sims 3 is still running in 32-bit, so I don't think there's been much progress there unfortunately, I'm really glad you found the video helpful, though! 😊
I've just bought a new MacBook Air, and I want play the sims 4 on it with some expansion packs, but I'm scared it will slow down my MacBook as sims 4 did slow down my windows computer a lot. Does anyone have any problems with the performance of their MacBook Air after they installed sims 4?
Hi Abbie! Congrats on your new computer-baby! Having a couple of packs should be fine, particularly if you won't be adding a bunch of CC/mods. The performance of your computer while in-game will also depend on the settings you're playing at. If you notice things slow down a bit, then try adjusting your settings. If things are really smooth and you're wondering if you can improve your graphics, tweak it again. If you're worried about your MacBook slowing down outside of the game, this shouldn't be an issue if The Sims 4 and/or Origin are not running in the background. So just make sure everything is actually exited/you've selected Quit. It might also be worthwhile to invest in a laptop cooling pad which could also help extend the lifespan of your device. Hope that helps!
Hi Abbie! I just have a correction on the cooling pad recommendation: there isn't significant evidence to show that benefit of using cooling pads for ventilating MacBooks. For specific kinds of laptop bodies, it does help, however, MacBooks have a unique airflow that isn't really affected by most cooling pad devices on the market. One of the better recommendations for MacBooks (and laptops in general) is to make sure that you are operating it on a flat surface so all of the vents are uncovered, and that your ambient temperature is cool (between 22-24 degrees celsius works well). I hope that helps!
I’d rather recommend windows, I played on both and besides my windows laptop taking longer cauze of the 60 gigabytes of cc, I‘m gonna expect you have one that could handle it, you can do more on windows since you can use shaders wich makes the game look more beautiful imo. And I think that all in all windows is better for video games!
In my perspective is kinda sad a older Mac book pro for $1000 plus dollars can’t run Sims 4 on high settings while a $600 laptop can be bought and play sims 4 at ultra and someone said it’s for “business” it’s a “business” laptop ok that doesn’t mean anything any laptop can be used for business and they don’t price their laptops for $1000 because it’s a “business” laptop lol
That’s why I don’t think I’ll ever buy a Mac/ MacBook. They’re pretty but if you used the same budget you could get wayy better specs for the same price.
@@tokoniboleigha8300 I don’t really have specific models since it depends on your budget, I just input the specs that I need into the filter section of the retailer I’m looking in (Curry’s is good if you’re in the UK). Only reason I don’t use it is because the charging port broke.
I have a 2015 MacBook Pro and play on high settings with 100gb of mods with no issue. I am looking into getting a gaming laptop though, bc there are limitations with Mac.
OuiSims thank you! It gets pretty hot not like hot to the touch though. I play for short periods so it has time to cool. And like you said it’s the ecosystem for me. Only reason I buy Apple products.
Hi! I had a MacBook Pro for 7 years and had some packs, but only 3 mods (SOL, UI, and MCC) and mostly CC (Maxis Match, hair, and clothes) are currently out of space (but still run smoothly) as I don’t want to overheat my laptop with more mods.
oh god now idk, because i need a laptop for school and i like the design of macbook since i always wanted one however it needs to have microsoft word, powerpoint and all the other programs since i use those for school like everyday. However i also want to play the sims 4, genshin impact and roblox on it so idk whether to get a macbook or a computer desktop instead. i like the portability of macbook and i wont ever get a gaming laptop unless it looks pretty like my style because im personally not interested in those high-tech looking gaming laptops
I have been watching Sims 4 videos for a long time but I’m not a techy person AT ALL. So I’ve been holding off on buying a computer because I don’t want to drop hundreds of dollars on something that isn’t the best or at least the better option. I just want to build houses and make sims and have fun but I’m so scared of making a wrong decision.
it sounds like you'd be a good candidate to get a windows laptop because (as long as they have a graphics card) they handle the sims 4 beautifully, but are relatively affordable! like ouisa said, macs *can* run the sims, but it's better to go with mac if you have other tasks you need to prioritize above gaming (i.e. schoolwork, editing, etc.) for example, i'm a photographer for a living and i play the sims as a hobby. i ultimately am loyal to mac because their operating system makes my job easier, even though my computer doesn't perform as well for my gaming hobby. my experience with the sims is still super enjoyable even though i can't have my graphics on ultra settings. another incredibly valid option would be to get a PS4 if you're not interested in using custom content or mods--although, you would need to buy a TV or monitor if you don't have one already. sorry for the unsolicited advice, haha, but i hope that my two cents helps!
+Spring Lady thank you so much for checking out my video! I hope you’ve found some useful information that can help you make the best decision for yourself 😊
Been playing sims 4 on my 2014 base model MacBook Pro since the game came out. It runs great...until I start adding mods. 😆 I have 2 or 3k mods soooo...my game takes a long time to get started, but once started it runs very smoothly & never gets overheated.
i run sims 4 with over 30g of cc and mods and over 4 expansion packs perfectly on a macbook air 2013 for over 12 hours a day sometimes. i’m looking to upgrade because it gets hot quickly when it’s on a flat surface. i recently got a 2017 macbook air to play with bc my 2013 is running out of space. but i am looking to get an imac soon. any suggestions?
Wow, how is that even possible? Did you have any expansion packs? Also what did you land on for the upgrade? I’m researching what laptop to get myself.
Hi, thank you so much for the very helpful video! If you can, can you please do an updated version that includes the M1 imacs? Would really appreciate that!!
Hey, I’ve just purchased the iMac for £1099 - what graphics settings would you recommend I could bring it to without encountering performance issues? My 2017 MacBook battery stopped holding charge due to long hours and medium graphics on Sims4 with CC. It got extremely hot as well in a matter of minutes.
My Macbook Pro (which I bought in 2019) gets ridiculously hot when I run anything now. It was fine but once I downloaded Sims 4 and all my expansions, (a while of playing on and off and the game being on a whole other 1TB external hard drive) it got to the point where I bought a laptop fan for it to sit on while I play. But, once again, my laptop was fine for a while until today where I literally had to shut my game down asap because I started smelling a hot, (not necessarily burning), heat smell. Idk if that makes sense lol but you know when something electronic starts heating up and it just has a smell? It was that. No problems with my battery (aside from having to keep it on charge while running the game) but I wouldn't trust it with CC or mods and I think the graphics are on the lowest they could be. Hope the iMac works out better for you, I 'd love to know if you've had any improvements.
My iMac runs Sims pretty well at the highest graphic settings. It does warm up, and sometimes it gets slow, but very minor and likely due to my shitty Wi-Fi
Hi!! Thank you for your videos they’ve been very helpful in helping me choose a laptop. I finally decided on the ASUS - ROG Zephyrus M15 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti - 512GB SSD will the sims 4 run smoothly in ultra settings with all expansion packs, mods, and CC?
Hi Musicismyweapon1000! You're so welcome, I'm happy to hear that you've found them helpful! Ooh, that is a beautiful laptop! The Zephyrus line from ASUS is their elite gaming range and will certainly play The Sims 4 on Ultra settings plus all of its DLC and CC/mods without any issue. The only possibly limiting factor would be space later on if you have oodles of CC/mods. However, many laptops allow you to upgrade storage quite easily. Reading through the manual should help you through this if/when you get to this point. I hope this helps you and happy Simming!
Hello, I have a question (sry for the bad English, I'm from Germany). :D I wanted to ask if Sims 4 would also run well on very new 2020 13" Macbook Pros? When I bought it, I made sure I had a lot of storage space (1 TB), a good processor (Intel Core i7), random access memory (16 GB) and a good graphics card (Intel iris plus graphics). The operating system is macOS El Capitan or Majove. Can you tell me something about it? :D THANK YOUUU :D
It‘ll work alright. It depends on if you use cc, how much ram you have and how much gigabytes you have. But I, with many gigabytes of cc can play it smoothly on my Mac, it‘s annoying when you have full gigabytes and can’t buy packs tho, and when the ram is full. But it still works mostly smooth in gameplay, you shouldn’t feel bad about playing it on Mac ;)
@@thatminari what are your thoughts on getting the m2 with 16gb ram and 512 ssd storage? Do you think it will handle the sims with some expansion packs + cc, when it´s only for occasional casual gaming?

I am about to buy the new 24 inch iMac as I think that it is great for playing TheSims 4 and attending online school. It is in my budget and the characteristics are amazing
@aida xo I think so if you buy it with the right specs helps. Im buying the 16Gb 512Gb SSD Im planning on having maxis match cc on my game too so I hope it can run safely
@aida xo I think that the 8gb and 512gb ssd is enough for just furniture. Maxis match is a kind of custom content that looks like its made from the sims team.

With a MacBook Air 2020 running the sims 4 with 2 expansion packs for an hour a day, do you think a cooling pad and/or portable hard drive is necessary or recommended?
Hi Dia! A portable hard-drive is great for back-up purposes. Alternatively, a USB stick with just enough space for your game should work well (just remember to regularly back it up). From a game storage point of view (like permanently running the game from there), I'd rather recommend that you keep as many of your Sims files locally on your device as possible. You can then use a cloud service, like iCloud, to store the rest of your files/photos/documents in the cloud. This helps keep your laptop's storage as clear as possible by only keeping files that you are actively/recently using, the rest are downloadable on demand. I'd always recommend keeping your devices cool. With that said, if you check your system temperature while running the game at your usual settings and you notice that it is around 90-100 degrees celsius (extreme case - try aim for 65 degrees celsius max), then it would be worthwhile investing in a cooing pad. Here are some ways to discern your MacBook's CPU temperature: beebom.com/how-check-cpu-temperature-mac/ I hope that helps! 😊
Hi Dia!
OuiSims thank you for your detailed answers! Do you think the MacBook Air 2020 at the base specs (1.1GHz Dual-Core Core i3 Processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz 256 GB Storage) is sufficient for the sims 4 and 2-3 expansion packs or should I get the better version (1.1GHz Quad-Core Core i5 Processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz)? I see a lot of conflicting info about whether or not the MacBook Air can run sims 4, and I want to make sure I’m purchasing the correct laptop and don’t make an expensive mistake 512 GB Storage)?
Hi Moriah, Unfortunately even on lowest graphics settings there will still be some strain on your laptop’s hardware which will result in louder fans, especially if you have a model that does not have a dedicated GPU. Dropping the graphics settings and removing some DLC/mods/CC may help a little, though. Hope that helps!
I use a Mac air 2017 and a MacBook Pro 2012 to play the sims 4 (on the lowest settings with laptop mode on) and it runs pretty well! The temperatures are pretty low and the fans are not loud at all, I do use an app called turbo boost switcher, which allows you to disable turbo boost temporarily, this really helps to lower temperatures to safer levels
I know pc is better for games and desktop better than laptop, but do you honestly say buying a separate laptop for gaming is cheaper, than if you’re already on Mac? Also is it better to run boot camp and windows for better game play and cc or there is no difference? @ouisims
Hi Suniharine, I have a step by step guide on how to install The Sims on Mac and Windows. Both Origin and Steam should be compatible with macOS, so please try the steps in this video and let me know if they work for you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GC7vNRQEv6Y.html
