Just upgraded my base M1 MacBook Air with a base M3 Pro MacBook Pro. Love the upgrade and it's exactly what I need for some simple coding and scrolling the web. My old air would use a lot of memory swap.

The MacBook Air M2 15" with 16GB/512GB is a great buy. I bought one, plus in Florida when I got it, no sales tax. As far as the midnight color, get a clear case cover for $15. No regrets...Plenty of power.

Craig - the MacBook 15" with 16/512 will be more power than you will need for your RU-vid channel, IMHO. What will you be doing different in creating your videos then what you are doing now? Reflect back on your past videos, what does it matter if it takes a few seconds or a bit more to render a video M2 vs M3?

I have a MacBook Air M1 16G 512G when It first came out. Very happy with it. I live in Florida too, so during the tax free period I bought the base model M2 Mac mini Pro. 🙂

If I were you Craig, in that situation. If you REALLY want the air, I would wait for M3 Air 15" with at least 16gb ram. That should be good for years to come. If you really need something now, I feel the M2 Air 15" 16gb ram is definitely enough..but that's assuming one is on a limited time and needs to spend the points/money before a certain period.

Yes, I'm thinking about it. If I don't it's because I can then get the M3 version for more content so I just need to weight the options. But an incredible price for sure.

I was in this dilemma previously. For me, I would just go either M3(or whatever newest) 16" Pro or Max and call it a day. I got the M1 Pro 14" and I have a few regrets. Why? Because it's so good that I should have put a bit more money into upgrading it at the time. What I got: M1 Pro 14" 16gb ram 1TB. What I wish I got: M1 Max 32gb ram 1TB. Now even a year later, I thought of trading in my M1 Pro 14" for even a M1 Pro with 16" and 32gb Ram. It's not that the M1 Pro 14" is bad, it's just that I know at the time, I could have invested a bit more to have it good enough to keep it for a few more years without complaining. Some of the task I use, I know 32gb ram is the sweet spot. (gaming, video editing, animation, etc) Also note, the 16" fans don't turn on or blow up as much as the 14". The 14" fans (at least for me) turn on often when doing big tasks, especially gaming.

Yes, I hear you on that. My use case is a bit different since I have a channel and go through them pretty quickly. But, I fully understand where you are coming from on making sure to spend enough up front.

I’m still using a macbook air 11” from 2015 with 8gb ram and 256 gb ssd and it does what i need light surfing and connect to servers over ssh😊

Question I have is are you a Best Buy total tech member because you get AppleCare for free for two years. if you look at an open boxed M2 MacBook Air you could save about $100 more at best buy. it seem like a good price for what you get. I personally bought a M3 MacBook Pro mid tear which has 18 GB of ram 512 GB of storage and it was an open box excellent item for a 1735 just like you I did have gift cards so I didn't end up paying that total price. But I'm also a Best Buy total Tech member, so Apple care for free. I did own the 15 inch version of the Mac air that had 8 gigabytes of ram for a while, but in a long run my main decision for the purchase that I made was longevity of owning the laptop I think, at least for me my decision, hopefully will get me at least 3 to 4 years on this laptop.

Thanks for the info. I'm not a member. Also, I have tried the Best Buy refurbished once before and the system had some issues and small dents. Not a huge issue but if I buy refurbished I normally go directly Apple Refurbished. I just feel for a $100 I'm rather have a spotless system but I know everybody is different and if people want to save some money Best Buy is an option. Thank you.

MBA 15 16/512 at 1400 is good but now 16/1tb is at 1500. Thats hard to resist even if MBA m3 is coming out soon. Wonder if 2024 MBA will have backlit keyboard or better cam resolution or more ports.

Yes, that is also a nice price with the 1 TB for sure. The M2 has a backlit keyboard already but could have a few upgrades. But, most likely will be the same overall.

My only hesitation is limited ports coming from MBP 2015 which I often upload PDFs from flash drives (not from a table)

Yeah, but the lack of ports isn't that big of an issue if you have a good hub.

This is a gem of a video 🤩., I am confused between 2 choices 1. Macbook m1 air - 16gb and 512 gb + ipad 9th gen 2. Macbook m2 air - 16gb and 256 gb ssd + ipad 9th gen 3. Macbook pro m3 pro - 18gb and 512 -- no ipad :( I am a full stack developer and work mostly on designing websites and little bit of server side coding. Suggest me one option from above pleaseee … pleasee… please …..

I can say for the more intensive work the pro would be the best, but if you don't mind a little lag the m1 or m2 air will do you mate

Yes, the Pro is best but it's really hard since everybody has a different workload. The Air with 16 GB ram is fine for coding and website design for sure so I might go with option #2 and see if you can get 512 GB SSD. If you need the power then the Pro but it's hard to answer without real world workflow tests.

My recommendation is to look for Apple refurbs or ebay laptops, nowadays 16 and 14 inch macbook pros both m1 and m2 and getting very cheap! I got my 16 inch for 1260, 2 years of apple care included, only 4 cycles of battery!

Yes, Apple refurbished is a great way to go and I have a few videos on that. I purchased my blue 24" iMac that way.

If it was me, I'd wait even if the new models are pricy, the older versions will only fall in price even more. Also 2nd hand bargains will be floating around, as the new crowd flock to buy the m3 varients.

Micro center is the place! I just got a m1 16 inch MacBook Pro 1tb with 1 year apple warranty for $1,259. This is also apple refurbished so basically new. Only 4 battery cycles.

Have you considered buying this: 16.2" MacBook Pro with M1 Pro Chip and 1 TB SSD, Space Gray - it's on sale on B&H right now for $1,799? M1 Pro is on par with the M3 chip and more than enough for almost everyone out there. I personally got the same model last year and can say it's a hell of a machine. Cheers.

That is a great deal but just too large and heavy for what I need. Know it's more powerful in almost every way but since I might be flying etc. with this it's just too large since I have iMacs and other nice monitors for home setup.

I absolutely love my M1 Air and i skinned it with the artic camo from Dbrand. Overall the process wasn't difficult but it didn't line up perfectly and im super picky about that so i had to redo it a few times. I get complements in the field supporting my clients and it keeps it a little more protected. Im thinking about getting an M3 15" Air with 16GB as an upgrade from my M1 for the screen and memory. I love the battery life and the instant on for how often i have to go between locations and end users. I wonder if they will bring the new black color to the air from the MBP?

Yes, I found a nice skin I might use. The M3 will be a great system for sure but you may need to wait until Christmas before you start seeing more sales on that one. I don't think the black color will be on the Air since it's made for the Pro and they don't even have it on the lower Pro models. But, I think they will have Midnight again but with the anti-fingerprint coating this time.

ive got a maxed out m3 pro max, excellent computer for work but still my go to is my m1 air that im typing on now, my advice if you need one buy one if not and you are happy with what you have stay with it, then buy when you need to

I purchased a 13inch M2 MBAir. Put a clear cover on it to allow the great Midnight color to come thru. No more fingerprints and it still looks great. after 1 year+. I still love the color. Had an MacTV years ago and it was all black. Looked great.

Really useful video! Apple's lineups(not just the Mac) had always been a dilemma tbh. Don't forget about the abysmal price ladder they created as well, it just makes a pain in the backside for everyone who's getting an Apple device. I think some people are waiting on the current lines of M3 series MacBook Pro to become available on the Apple refurbished site as well, because you can find up to 25% off and the device is basically still brand new

The 15" Air? Not sure about that but it's good enough for sure and something people should consider if you can get a very good price like the $1,399 for the 16 GB and 512 SSD. If you had to pay $300 or $400 more then it's the 14" M3 Pro.

@craigneidel I think most of ppl would rather a M1 pro 14, they're the same price with the discount, but for my use case I preferred the increased battery life, more screen, better typing experience for long sessions, lighter and 2 years of updates over the 14...

Yeah, but the 16 GB is a game changer with video editing which is what I do. I have tried the 14" M2 (non-pro) M3 and it has the same issues with lack of ram. But for standard users I think they would be happy with both.
