I'll take too many buttons over an even more dangerous touch-screen.

100% agree - you don’t see complex touchscreen menus on flight decks do you? You see lots of instantly available direct buttons, for a good reason… 👌🏻
@greyfoxmce

the new version has replaced the analogue buttons for touch sensitive ones. At least with the old version, once you know where the buttons are you can "feel for them" with out taking your eyes off the road, but with the new version you will have to look down in order to hit them! Not a great idea!!

The only buttons that require a look in the manual - are those below the screen. All others are obvious. Fx the diff lock.

Great video and very informative! The 4.2S Diesel responds very well to remapping, with 720lb/ft easily achievable and well within limits. This will give the petrol turbo a run for its money and return much better mpg. Servicing parts, if using quality aftermarket parts (remember that Porsche do not make their own service parts, just rebrand other manufacturer's supplied parts) are not overly expensive. The elephant in the room with 958 Cayenne's in general is slipping transfer boxes. The Porsche recommended transfer box fluid is not up to scratch for the change intervals recommended and the location of the breather pipe on earlier models allows the ingress of water. Change your transfer fluid every 2 years using Ravenol DTF-1 transfer fluid (don't over torque the drain and fill bolts). An easy DIY job. The other potential issue is blocked firewall and sunroof drains causing ingress of water under front carpets and spare wheel aperture. Ensure that these are kept unblocked and remove those stupid star shaped rubber drainage bungs (under front wheel arch liners). The 4.2 S diesel is very underrated and much better than the 'run of the mill' 3.0 litre diesel imo. As far as mods go, if your Cayenne 958 does not have Carplay or Android Auto there is an aftermarket mod available, which addresses this shortfall, whilst retaining your PCM unit. Don't get hung up on using Porsche Approved tyres. I have Michelin Cross Climates fitted to mine, which are excellent, all year non Porsche approved tyres, Finally, if your Cayenne needs replacement parts, many are shared with the VW Touareg and can be obtained significantly cheaper from VW / Audi Group parts suppliers such as TPS.

Couldn't see myself buying one of these but your video makes a Cayenne sound an interesting and left field proposition. Surprised at the prices expected them to be far more as its a Porsche! I particularly like your videos of interesting cars like this that may be a few years old but can be had for similar money to a new/nearly new boring hatchback - keep em coming!

Perfect review like always 👌🏻. Last year I sold RR 2007 for Cayenne S 4.8 petrol 2011. I thought in these days solid petrol would be perfect - big mistake!!! All Porsche petrol cars even 3.0 petrol from 2014-2015 all petrol engine became “sized” and on mine one I had full service history 70k on clock. I noticed clocking noise - engine was checked with camera -cylinder 1 was sized, and all these petrol engines became sided one day 🤷🏼. How to avoid- Porsche made mistake with long term service period, here in Europe 28000km. Oil service should be done on turbo 8000km and natural aspired 10000km. Once it’s oil old/used it does make scratches in cylinder’s until it’s engine sides.Repair cost around 5-6000£. But I want it this Cayenne so it’s a life with all it brings. Once I start engine all it’s forgotten and it’s fantastic car.

Great review, loved it. I actually prefer the styling of the older outgoing model, but hey, it's in the eye of the beholder I guess. The interior looks good but the button fest puts me off. I would likely crash whilst trying to find the control I needed and I hate the dial cluster. Most Porsches have them and it looks dated to me. I remember when I was in Peterborough of all places to pick up my new (2nd hand) car, there was a Mk 1 Cayenne on the forecourt for only a couple of grand more, but it was a petrol and I googled it and the running costs were astronomical, otherwise I would have been very, very tempted. Thanks again for a quality video.

So, have lusted after the MKII Cayenne ever since it was released but unfortunately, it was always way over my budget. However, roll on 2020 and I have finally managed to grab myself one, it is a single owner, 2014 GTS variant, with the 4.8ltr, naturally aspirated V8, in my view, the sweet spot of the range. I won't go on about it too much, but suffices to say, it is bar far the best car I have ever owned and an all-around fantastic driving experience. For the balance of performance, practicality, handling, quality and prestige it offers, and the relatively good value, I think it's probably the best pre-owned car one can buy. As a side note - I am located here in Dubai...the roads are amazing and fuel is relatively cheap. The sticker price of my particular vehicle, with options was $117,000USD and I picked it up two months ago, from a specialist Porsche dealership, with 95,000km on the clock for a smidgen over $29,000. So far, so good, I have had no issues at all - if you have ever considered getting one, trust me...just do it.

@highpeakautos I'll chime in on the first generation since I sold my 2005 Cayenne Turbo 2 days ago, and them in process of getting an x5 50i. If you're going to own a first-gen cayenne, particularly the turbo, you've really got to love that specific car. If it's a special occasion car, you might find it worth the upkeep and you may be able to keep too many miles off of it so that it doesn't become a maintenance headache. But as daily driver, after running it a couple years, I found much to be desired. At the end of the day, it's a classic car. The infotainment center is very old and dated, the interior design is quite dated, the ride just isn't as compliant to some of the newer more sophisticated magnetic rides available in higher end vehicles. And you are constantly chasing a vacuum leak somewhere in the engine bay. I think the Gen 2's are a whole lot better and less prone to problems, if I did it again I would go for the Gen 2.

Good review all comments fair and qualified, I run the same car, same model, same year. I am a big time Range Rover fan, I owned three, prior to my Cayenne, but I have to say I think in all honesty, the Cayenne is superior, in most respects, except possibly the looks department, I am still hoping to feel the love, I,m sure it will come. I live in rural England, with narrow lanes , steep hills and of course plenty of mud for months on end. It becomes quite apparent this is a powerful, sure footed 4x4 with sports car performance. Currently, I'm feeling this is one of the best cars I have driven.

@@HighPeakAutos are you going to do a review of the macan diesel? I'm interested in one of those as don't need a massive suv, but still want the sporty drive

I had the Mark 1 a 2009 Definitely getting the mark 2 sooner rather than later Much much better than a range Rover sport

I got 4.8 V8, naturally aspirated. Those engines in Cayenne S and GTS are absolutely fantastic. Especially the sound and the linear way they deliver power! Definitely recommend such an engine, but be aware you will average 17l/100km

my infiniti fx35 does 18/100. So Porsche is worth it

How’s the engine on the vehicle shown here? Do they last a long time if maintained well?

Sounds good, great video as always. Did check an older one after watching a review on an older one. Not ULEZ compliant unfortunately, is this newer diesel?

Im not sure. You'd be better off with a hybrid Cayenne to be on the safe side

Never thought about owning one of these but you seem to get a lot of car for the money. Another great review 👍🏻

Bought a fully loaded 50K/single owner 2011 Turbo earlier this year (Lockdown madness?) and I love it. I’ve always fancied them and now having owned one for a while, consider it a near perfect car - really comfortable, big enough for anything I could ever throw at it and super fun to drive. It fell in line with your usual tip of allocating a couple of grand to get everything in order, and is now proving to be reliable. I also retrofitted a CarPlay module into the PCM, so it’s pretty well future proofed. I’m retired and don’t do a lot of mileage, so fuel consumption isn’t really an issue. Can’t recommend they enough - a real treat to own and drive.

Great choice! I'd love one of those. Theyre great cars.

May I ask, did you have the CarPlay retrofitted with Porsche or 3rd party? And how much did it cost to do ?

@@MrAamirio I bought the kit from NM Automotive, based in the Channel Islands and installed it myself. It cost around £500. I think you can buy a similar kit direct from China, but I felt safer buying it from NM who had good reviews, They also provide good backup service and pretty foolproof installation instructions. I'm not a motor mechanic and no more than a competent DIYer but managed it pretty easily. It took me about six hours to install and still works a treat. Good luck.

@@philiphobden Thanks for getting back to me. I wonder if i did it myself would it invalidate the Porsche warranty? hmmmmm......
