Should you buy a Range Rover Vogue L322? | Quick Road Test and Review

The Range Rover L322 is truly the prodigal son of the Range Rover line up. Produced 2002-2011 and known as the the last true Range Rover, the last fully fledged off roading work horse, the L322 has a place in the purists heart and I have to be honest this was the first one I've spent some time with.
I have to say that it did live up to the hype and if not for the miles that I cover, I would genuinely consider buying. This was also one of the early ones with a 54 plate, I imagine a 2011 Vogue that has been well looked after is a truly beautiful driving experience.
Thanks to www.benzbavarian.com for lending the car for a few days and please do check out their website if you are interested in the one that I reviewed here.

My friend just bought a 2005 Range Rover Vogue L322 today with the same engine as the one featured in this video, a TD6 3.0 Litre BMW M57 (D30). First stop is the Shell petrol station to put in a full tank of V-Power Diesel, then head to a hand car wash to detail it, and then next week off to a Range Rover specialist to have it fully serviced. Your video was quite good, thanks for uploading it.

I've got a 3.6 TDV8 Autobiography with 127k miles on it. I've done 90k of those myself and will be keeping it. No real probs, fuel gauge, couple of sensors, otherwise just tyres and brakes. It's brilliant. Drives the same as it always has and gets 24 mpg ave. Find a specialist to look after it, the main dealers will have your trousers down.

Everything you listed as a potential fault on this Range Rover I had go wrong on my old BMW 5 series. Not surprising when these pre-2006 RR's shared a lot of BMW electricals from then. Your list of faults from forums is nothing surprising. People love to hate a Range Rover! What is surprising is that your suggestion was that it is an especially unreliable car but when you consider that the newest L322 is now 10 years old, it really is not surprising to anyone that has owned one that they break. All cars break, especially a 10 year old high spec SUV when you don't factor in service standards or the use they have received during those ten years. If you find a good one you will get fantastic motoring from them; just be selective when you buy it.

Did you say BMW TDV6 engine? BMW never made one. I think you mean TD6 (Straight Six) which is what I have. I like your enthusiasm but I think we all know how sumptuous and smooth they are to drive: you rather glossed over the details most potential buyers are interested in.. the reliability and known mechanical issues. For that you need to live with the car for more than a week! The obvious one is the gearbox, which is known to be an issue (I had to replace mine.) The trick is to flush and replace the gearbox oil periodically, to extend its life (ignore the “sealed for life” nonsense.) Air suspension is another… grit accumulates in the creases of the “air bags” when they are slack, and gradually grinds away at the surface of the rubber when the bags are inflated/deflated. I had to replace the front both sides. The trick is to use the air suspension sparingly and/or give those parts a good blast with a jet wash from below from time to time. Mine gets seam cleaned annually. The 3.0 TD6 gets a bit of a bad press for being “underpowered” compared with the later TDV8 3.6 & 4.4 but in reality it is perfectly adequate for you’re not a racer even if it’s a little noisier.More importantly, the TD6 is actually more reliable and durable; the TDV8 has known issues with the turbo which can spell serious trouble down the line. The mechanic at my local dealership tells me he sees far more TDV8s coming into the shop with mechanical problems of this nature than he does the TD6, despite the TD6s being older.
@jackthurgood9614
@jackthurgood9614 Год назад
The BMW TDV6 unit is so thirsty because it is too overworked to pull around a 2.7 tonne car, you are revving the nuts off it all the time you are driving to get it to move along, high teens to low twenties are the best mpg figures you’ll get. The 3.6 litre TDV8 is a more powerful unit so you’ll rev it less and it’ll use less fuel, 26-27mpg can be expected.
@macswhips
