I got all three major Switch models (because i'm a consoomer) with my og being from 2017 and the OLED is by far the best one. The battery life is significantly better than all previous models which is weird considering the Lite is the dedicated handheld only one and it's battery is the worst of the ones on the market atm. OLED is better in almost every other way too and now the only reason I go back to my launch Switch is for modding. Upgrading is 100% worth it.
Great to hear bud. I have a Lite but I’m looking for a larger, more vibrant screen now. I mainly play in handheld, but having the option to play in docked mode is awesome. I can’t wait to play BoTW2 on this fantastic piece of kit! 👌
Man I play my switch at work when it's slow and typically get a few hours of violet gameplay in, never had a problem w my battery even going below half
which switch do you have? the ones produced after summer 2019 have incredible battery for a game console, but prior to that they were rough as hell lol
I had upgraded. The screen size and new color appreciation didn't sell me once I had it and played it. It felt more like I spent into something that I didn't need nor really amplified my gaming experience. ---- I decided to sell it and wait for Nintendo to actually make a Switch Upgrade
The only reason I don't bought the OLED model is because of modding, but when I tried the OLED model from my friend it looked so much better and had so much more battery life than the Switch V1
thats a valid reason. if you're able to solder theres a way to hardmod the mariko/OLED switch models to run cfw but otherwise id just stick with your v1
I think it is due to the dated hardware, what has to be kept in mind is that this is a battery focused handheld thats five years into its lifespan. companies (nintendo included) just need to optimise their games for it better - if witcher 3 can run at 30fps theres no reason for age of calamity to drop to 15
@@crustbound well it has a 60 FPS screen I think Diablo 60 FPS Diablo 3 some games just not newer ones and I noticed I have a steam deck and if I don't plan 45 high-end games I'm still playing in 30 loving it though just no OLED but I do have the OLED switch
I have the original from 2017 but I was thinking upgrading to the OLED. I've seen many videos on RU-vid and just reviews in general. But the switch I have which is the original works pretty well. So i dont know if I should upgrade it to the OLED.
The way I looked at my upgrade, was the Switch Oled was the best handled ever made with the best screen. Kind of like an upgraded Vita. But now the Steam Deck comes along....
I think the Steam Deck is awesome but for the time being its kind of a niche enthusiast "look into the future" than a viable full on console imo (unless you carry a battery bank with you in which case go wild lol!
The Steam Deck is a fantastic piece of tech. The Switch OLED has a much better screen though. Colours really do ‘pop’ and games look so damn vibrant. That’s why I’m getting one in time for BoTW2!
My PS4 is slightly broken, now I either have to buy a PS5 or OLED, I'm still deciding as more games are on the OLED compared to PS5 but some other factors differ.
I need your guys opinion on this. Im about to be traveling a lot for work and i was thinking of getting a switch Oled. I have a ps4 pro, and ill wait for the 5 slim specially because ill be traveling a lot for now. Ive been a gamer since i was little, and i havent played breath of the wild and ive really been wanting to play it. I understand graphics wont be the same, but it looks to me that the games made for the switch shine on the oled. Will i be disappointed? Seems very convenient for traveling.
You absolutely should spring for that OLED. Switch games look stunning on it due to the screen and it will especially worthwhile for you given how you haven't touched games like BOTW yet. Unless you want to go for a Lite which would also be worthwhile, I'd say the OLED is the best option for getting into the switch, and will be great for travelling - especially due to it having the best battery life of any Switch due to the power efficiency that comes with the new screen.
@@crustbound thank you so much for the help and the quick responde. Ill definetely get my hands on it then. I was thinking about the lite but the Oled seems worth it. Just subscribed man, your video was very helpful and so were you. Looking forward to seeing more of your content.
I bought one Oled a while ago, it is my first console. I like the games, and I love the portability, I actually save some money in light bill since I'm not using the computer that much anymore, so that's interesting. the 720p screen looks good when the game is running close to 720p, but when it is lower it looks freaking terrible. Like, I was playing the demo of the Yoshi Crafted world or whatever the name is, and it looks like garbage, everything is blurry, but generally the screen is good. The games are really good, probably better than anything on PC or the other consoles, but I hate having to pay for the online, that's pretty stupid, it also doesn't work well here, on wi fi is pretty much impossible to play Splatoon 3, on cable it works a little better, but that defeats the whole Hybrid thing, also even with the cable, still has some connections issues, ans that sucks, is really annoying to take Mario Kart to play and relax a little, but then not being able to play because the online sucks. But yeah, it's an ok console, I played a little bit of the original switch, and yeah, the oled is better, not a lot better, but a little better, so it's probably a good idea buying the oled one.
I think its so crap how paying for online has been so normalised on consoles when you're literally paying for nothing. Especially when the switch did not improve at all when it made the jump from free to paid online. Atleast theres some banger retro games packaged in tho
Is it just me or is a "Nintendo Switch Home" an amazing Idea? Just make it some small Box you can connect to your Monitor for like 150€ with the same Performance as the original Switch and a Pro Controller
Okay, two things: "Perfection, I'm afraid, has a cost. And the cost is Battery Life", is my favorite Quote of the day And as much as I like the Switch and feel mixed about the Switch OLED, my favorite has to be the Lite. I don't play on the TV to begin with so that's all I need.
I bought mine on the 27th of December to upgrade from my switch lite. I'd say it is worth it. Now I can play with others when there is a party in my house.
I think the issue in mid 2023 is that Nintendo will be upgrading the hardware, bringing out a new console soon. The Switch was a low powered option in early 2017 when it was released. Taking it past the usual seven year life cycle that most consoles get would be…. Odd. Some time in 2024 Nintendo will very likely announce a hardware upgrade or new console. The question is, with this model, still almost the full price it was on launch day, and more than the base model… do you want to spring for one now or wait a year for something likely much better at a similar price?
I've got steam deck and I've sent it back for the second time because it's always crashing on all games no matter if they're steam verified 😅 I'm waiting for my 3rd one now and tbh I've had enough of the thing yes the games are great when they work but I don't have much time nowadays and with my old switch I used to just pick it up and play no issues. So I've just ordered a new Zelda oled because I'm probably going to sell my steam deck because I just don't have the time for it anymore spending more time trying to fix games than play them.
I actually got the oled this christmas (i didn't have the normal switch before that) and playing my first 2 games on it (odyssey, luigis mansion 3) felt great I really don't regret getting it and i'm hyped to play other games. (Also playing in handheld with the big oled screen feels so good)
@@crustbound mario kart 8 deluxe because everyone says that it's a must buy if you have a switch. I also really want it because it's a racing game you can play very well with friends. And after that probably a port i've never played like 3d world or new super mario bros u deluxe (mainly to get that sweet 2d mario goodness)
A lot of reports of bad steam deck battery life are from people who don't optimize for it. If you get a steam deck remember to load a different graphics profile to stretch battery life. I've gotten 7 hours on kingdom hearts 3 by using the 40 hz refresh rate and medium graphics
If you're just going to play on handheld mode and just play single player games primarily, Nintendo Switch Lite is enough already. Buy Switch OLED only if you're going to play couch co-op games on tabletop mode, if you're always playing on docked mode, Switch V2 or V1 is enough.
They probably messed the game card slot up purposely to incentivize digital purchases. It's a minor annoyance to most, but it's enough of an annoyance to some to consider it.
Just asked myself the same question and I ended up saying yeah cause I'm personally gonna dump at least 100-200 hours into Tears of the kingdom and probably a few more switch games coming out and I want to experience those on the better screen so I'd say it depends on how much you think you'd use it
