Who & from where this truck came from, I had a O7 I never put a $ apart from regular maintenance, brakes, shocks. I guess it all depends what's the history of the truck.
Man, I don't have a lot of tolerance on repairing vehicles. $2k is my limit. I get it running to the nearest dealer and dump it. My buddy had an oil leak with his harley. My DIY solution for him was a $600 fix, but no he wanted to take to the shop, it was his "baby", well 3 months in the shop and $4k later he finally got the bike back. Mind you this bike wasn't worth $2500 on a good day. I buy/sell harleys all day. Some people never learn. Grandpa always said, never through good money onto bad money. I live by that golden rule. I'm looking at a 2013 esv w/127k on the clock, I think you've answered my concerns. Hope you made the right decision. Thanks for sharing.
Time to get ur hands dirty and learn how to maintain ur cars...u hve a list of things to repair now tackle the more important ones 1st the oil leaks...parts are cheap your labor is FREE...RU-vid will be ur best friend to learn...good luck and post wat u decide to do
When i was young i had an issue with my 2000 F-150, the upper intake manifold broke at the coolant crossover. $2,700.00 to have fixed. I didn't know anything about car repair but, i couldn't afford that. RU-vid helped me and i did it myself for $150.00. Since then I've done all my own car repairs. I've saved well over $10,000. If i can do it, anyone can. Save money. Btw, that 2000 F-150 is still my daily driver.
After being in a similar position with a vehicle I bought a 2012 Toyota Sequoia with 127,000 miles 3 years ago. It now has 150,000 miles on it and so far no major issues, just fluid changes and a set of tires when I bought it. Not as plush as an Escalade but a reliable truck with good capacity. I picked it on the advice of my independent mechanic who said it will last 300,000 miles without major issues if I change the oil. I still like those Escalades, especially the ESV that is 2 feet longer than my Sequoia.
I would fix it bro. It's all normal maintenance. Just do a little bit at a time. I got a 98 yukon I replaced the Trans and the truck has close to 200k. It's a absolute beasr
What did you decide? Did you fix all these things? A hassle for sure but way less than a newer vehicle and since it's built on a truck frame rust is really the only thing that brings them down if you want to keep fixing them. It could be worth it.
If you can do the oil pan gasket (steering rack is right there), links, struts, axles and find power steering leaks I would lean toward keeping vehicle. If motor has to be pulled replace every seal every block engine freeze plug back of motor one and done. Get ya a good cadillac manual and transmission jack and a good buddy - oil pan and rack sets on top of front drive train (double check info). Front bearings and front end parts they go sooner or later on daily drivers. Smart thinking about the body style. Bigger rims wear out suspension quicker cause of a more firm ride.
You can do this all by yourself tbh I have a 2008 Cadillac Escalade ext and I've fixed those problems if you don't want to pay that amount of money I say just fix it
The car you owned is great good. Since you already put thousands upon it for powertrain, the rest of issue are only for the suspension and leaks. Calm down and fix it 1 by 1. BTW, the shock maybe less 500 bucks, if try to find parts from Tahoe or Suburban or Yukon. There are still lots choise 2007-2014.
But for you, it all boils down to, how much you love the vehicle! And if you plan on keeping it long term after you spend that money on it. So I would say it’s worth it because it is a beautiful vehicle, while others would say it is not an individual choice for you to make I guess.
Somebody did a poor job on the maintenance. That’s not the trucks fault. Trying to get a newer car with these features in this markets is going to be Ridiculous
Should’ve changed the rear main seal when you had your other tranny put on my guy. My wife literally just got a 07 Escalade and we are having same issues as you. The brake lines needs fix as well on hers. Smh but our plan is fix it slowly. One atta time. My rear main seal only gonna cost me 900$ in my town. But had to fixed the oil pan which was 700$, tranny cooling lines 600$. Now my main thing to fix next is the rear main seal.
I bought a 2010 esv for 500, put a new motor in and trans fluid and filter, new cluster and converted my air shocks to standard shocks spent 5k for all together and my time putting it all together, took me 3 weeks to get it all done, it’s the labor that kills ppls wallet, pays to have the mechanics knowledge
Man déjà vu I just finished putting the transmission in my 2008 Escalade right after I noticed oil in the driveway, so I did valve cover gasket, oil, pressure sensor, intake, gasket pulled transmission off engine agin for rear main seal install front main seal and currently doing rear suspension and struts one thing at a time all in all the truck has been great. Bought it in 2010 and drove it 80,000 miles trouble free i decided to not buy another newer vehicle and fix this one it is currently running great. Glad I stuck it out. Made a list and every other weekend. Try to scratch one item off. Just finish this way bar. Bushings and links easy I also painted the front and back bumpers because they were pretty faded out. Had the truck paint corrected in what sanded and buffed looks amazing.
I have never had any problems with the engine or the transmission however, at least! Runs perfect leaks, nothing anywhere. But it has nickeled and dime me to death with other issues. But that’s OK. I love the car and plan on keeping it so it’s been like a project for me for the last two years or so.
Yikes.... I own a 2005 and it was a one owner, and the only 2 things i have in common with you is the rear main seal is value cover gaskets. Otherwise i have not had any issues with any suspension, or anything else you mentioned. Its got 179k miles too. Its been taken good care of and never been up north. One thing i noticed about these trucks like many is where they originate can determine the issues of the parts and how soon they fuck up. Like i never had the alternator changed for instance. You said yours was, it just comes down to who owns it before you and if its gotten a lot of moisture, salt, and things like that exposed to the under carriage. I would suggest looking into Amsoil Heavy-Duty Metal Protector to protect and coat the under body of your truck if you do live up north. My truck doesn't need it but i plan to put it on my truck just because of what good ive seen from it on this guys channel over the years of watching. This is the most recent video of him applying it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nbPhWohJkX8.html . Shows you the special connector hose to get into holes throughout the frame and stuff that you cant easily spray. This will help keep lines and other shit down there from rusting. If you keep or plan to get another id definitely recommend undercoating with this for preventative maintenance.
I have an 07 Escalade currently- I just recently at 170,xxx miles- and I just over hauled mine and put about $15,000 into it.. I will have the Leather, carpet, and body panels replaced in the spring.. I refuse to get rid of it..
just bought an 08 ESV last June and due to previous owners not taking care of it I have had to replace all 4 ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, weld the ear back on my sway bar, P/S pump with the cooler and hoses, water pump, belt tensioner, poor wiring on the taillights and horn and both CV axles. I also had to replace my entire engine harness and fuse box because 2 wires shorted somewhere and burned a good section of the harness annnnnd that's not all my rear air shocks are blown, there is a thunk in the front when you accelerate or decelerate along with a moan/whine under load (so pretty sure I need a front diff) the steering is now skipping (rack or intermediate shaft?) and I'm pretty sure it's developing either a rod knock or piston slap all in less than a year of ownership......I like what it could be but it's just a really bad example but I'm so upsidedown now that I just don't know what to do
Man I feel you that's why we rool Chevy,,with all that wrong it still purrs,,I will only ride Chevy,,I rolled a Chevy across the country with parts missing,,Chevy love ,,I would drive it till the wheels fall off 💯
I know this video is old but it’s a real shame how badly your getting bent in terms of prices on repairs. The rear main seal does sound about right but if you were to replace the oil pan gasket at the same time I would personally charge no more then $100 in labor for it as it’s ssooo much easier to drop the pan with the transmission out of the way. The valve cover gaskets your absolutely getting screwed as it’s like a 30 min job max if your being lazy. I hate that just because it’s a caddy mechanics want to overcharge even tho it’s the same as working on a 4x4 Tahoe
2007 176k paid off got me a tool box and watch a lot off video now I knows more about this truck for me its hard if you don’t know but you know what’s wrong now I will keep it
Being a 2007 depending on how many miles are on the odometer it's not even worth 10k. Bummer man sorry to hear about all those problems. It sucks when your favorite rig starts dieing on you.
Hello say I feel ur pain overall nice vehicle but sometimes after years of ware tare those things happen just wish some of the comments chill out not ur fault at least your using ur head an trying to see best way to handle this situation but if you don't want to go into deat I understand that so then I suggest deal with the most biggest thing first and work ur way from their hope it helps 😊
What would I do with that situation? As I said earlier, it would depend on how much you really care for the vehicle and if you plan on keeping it long-term or not, would be to determining factors for me actually. I chose to do it with my 07 CTS because I just truly love the car I like the body style in the way it rides and looks everything about it!
its not just cadilllac, its poor maintenance. people want nice looking vehicles with a/c and be damn if the brakes are grinding or the tires are bald with cords showing. when you do your own maintenance on your vehicle, you notice things that need attention. i had a bad experience with a shop 25 ish yrs ago and never had one of our vehicles in a shop since. ive done all the work to our vehicles on ramps and jack stands. a lift would be awesome i havent come across a repair where i NEEDED one. with the money i saved doing all the work myself ive built up a tool collection that any master mechanic would be proud to have. thru the yrs ive helped other people with their car repairs who couldnt afford the outrageous shop/stealership prices for labor. it pays to do your own vehicle repairs. its not for everyone though. be sure you know what youre doing and you have the right tools because if you mess something up bad, mechanics will charge more to fix your mess. good tools and knowledge are key but enjoying the job is very important. some people will do their own work to a certain level and some will do everything because its their past time. in this day and age, as long as the frame, motor and trans is good, fix the minor stuff. keep it going till the wheels fall off. plus its paid off.
Let's say $15,000 into the truck to make it perfect. Then look at $50,000 to get one that is perfect. You still have $35,000 in the bank if you fix your truck... No brainer...
1) Find a reputable shop that wilp let you bring your own parts. 2) use coupn codes at advance for discounts do multiple orders to maximize savings 3) do what tou can kn your own 4) b4 u buy always do a couple inspections 5) DON'T BUY 15-20, a Cadillac dealership told me from their own mouth don't buy the 15-20s unless you have a great extended warranty because the trans will go.
When you let a vehicle sit your real main seal going to leak but if it's been a good vehicle and tell you that it said might as well get it done I mean can't really complain about it because lookout older vehicle is and it's lasted you this long once you get those parts fixed and redone it will last longer wat ur going through is basic where and tear
I have probably spent close to 10 grand on my 07 CGS actually but that did include a new high quality factory type paint job on it of course also keeping it the same original color which is stealth gray Cadillac calls it, but it really looks kind of like a dark blue to me. Lol and the whole rack and pinion steering mechanism needed. Replaced clear across the front from wheel the wheel. Those were probably my two most expensive things I guess. L O L.
You can fix all them yourself cheap I did it to my 2008 and I'm terrible at fixing cars just youtbe a video they talk you Through it easy. Takes a little time but way worth it. Save you 2k
No offense bro but you beat that truck to shit and obviously skipped on regular maintenance . There is no way that you get a chain effect of bad things happening on a truck unless you go on without taking care of them before they get worse. No need to try and shit on Cadillac for it. These trucks are known to be Very reliable and last a long time AS LONG AS YOU KEEP UP WITH MAINTENANCE . Lets be real its a 6.2L Vortec and a 6L80e the best of the best. Dont mislead these people . If you know, you know. Cadillac for the win 🥇
I own a 2011 Escalade and maintain it religiously,,,,,, rack and pinion leaks a little and than alot,,, replace it even with used parts,,,, shocks need replacing,,, regular maintenance is the key,,,,,all these items this guy mentions I have replaced with either new or used parts and I can jump in my Escalade for a thousand mile road trip with no questions asked,,,,,,,,, this guy has not looked after his vehicle for a long time,,,, still driving it with clunking in the front end,,,, are you well,,,, what if the wheel falls off and hurts someone,,,,,, you are sh%ting on Cadillac but you have not looked after the vehicle you purchased,,,,,, for sh%ts and giggles i'd like to see how often you had the oil changed..... go buy yourself a hyundai......
One more thing,,,,,, you state the transmission had to be replaced for 2700 dollars,,,,, can I ask and expect an honest answer had you been driving the Escalade while the transmission cooler lines were leaking,,,,,, sounds like the reason your trans had to be replaced is because you cooked it running it dry of transfluid,,, again your problems are self induced because you have not serviced your investment on a regular basis,,,,, you get what you put in to it,,,
What I have learned is on a vehicle in that age range, and even newer, before purchasing, it should be taken to a mechanic and let them go over it and tell you any things like that you might be facing. You don’t just buy it because it looks shiny and pretty I have learned! L O L.
After finding out how much my dad paid for his Cadillac Escalade transmission 3.000 and his headlights were 800 dollars they hit the right rear the rear taillight at Cadillac was 800 dollars and this is a 2007 am glad I own a 2004 Expedition it has 245 miles and runs great better than my dad Cadillac
$2,000.00 per yr maintenance is pretty normal! Sounds like you bought a Lemon Used vehicle or have ignored maintenance needs for a long time, Either way it IS your Fault!!
If you like it that much sell it take that cash and go buy another one. I have 2 Lincoln town cars in my driveway right now. 1 with 125k Mike’s and 1 I just picked up with 70k miles
Wtf...these trucks are made to last bro..how do you drive it..this sounds to me like everything just caught up to u should of fixed these problems as soon as they happen
Cadillacs are not cheap to keep maintaining everything fixed on them! Believe me, I know. I have an 07CTS 3.6. I finally have everything fixed on it completely! Get your new show room condition now no lights on the dash or anything no leaks anywhere nothing! But it has been quite an expensive ordeal! Lol but I love this car it rides and looks so great with its new paint job and everything. It is in beautiful condition! Now I’m ready to sell it some lucky owner won’t have to go through all the expensive repairs that I’ve done on it! Lol
Dude, what the heck! you should have kept up with the repairs. All of this stuff just didn't all happen all at once. Most of these repairs you can do yourself. Sooo Cowboy up and fix the dam thing. Cherry this baby up. It will take some time but once its done you be happy you did it yourself. you said it sat for a while. During that time you could have been working on it. start out with the cheap repairs, and work your way up. By the way all the parts on these car are cheap. Once your done you know what has been done on it. Good Luck!
Get rid of it if it was a Tahoe or a Expedition I would invest money in it my dad has a Cadillac Escalade has the same problem you do my Expedition has 245.000 miles and runs better than my dad Cadillac and is less expensive to fix
