I know, another Amazon video, but I thought it would be interesting to see if there is some huge catch when buying Amazon warehouse deals. Should you buy a laptop from there?

One very important point I missed in the video is that Amazon explicitly states these products have no manufacturers warrenties. You can only return it based on Amazon's return policy. That does add an extra level of risk. So please bear that in mind if you are thinking about it. Sorry for missing that, and thanks for watching! 😁

Amazons "policy" does not override law its a common scam retailers have to get out of returns. I know its a grey area on the rights with manufacturer but if they are basically saying these are new they can't then say theres no warranty.

Working @amazon. i can't disclose any details, but warehouse deals are usually unused product which had damaged packaging from storing , or were sent back from buyers with only the box opened. Amazon does not resell PCs, which have been set up by users, because there is no way to tell if they have been tampered with. Also the return policy varies from country to country and your mileage may vary.

I apoligize for having written so much, I'll put a TLDR at the bottom. I'm currently watching this using the laptop in the video. I also bought it from an Amazon warehouse deal and paid 367.34$CAD in November 2019. Since the purpose of you video was to evaluate the quality of Amazon warehouse deals, I'll say that I received mine in the original packaging and in a condition that is indistinguishable from brand new. I've had nothing but good expericences with warehouse deals in Canada. The items usually come in the original retail packaging and are always in like-new condition. If I want to buy something and it is available as a warehouse deal, I will ALWAYS buy the warehouse deal, even if the difference is only a few dollars. I have some family that usually spends the winter in Florida and have ordered some warehouse deals from there. Their experience could not be further from the one I have had. They told me that they have ordered twice from warehouse deals in the US and have, both times, received a product so dammaged that it might as well be landfill. Regarding the computer, I've been using mine pretty much every day for university, so the battery has been charged and drained once or twice a day since I've owned it. The battery now lasts just over 3 hours, which is enough to attend one full course on battery, if barely. If I forsee using it for more than 3 hours, I'll bring the charger which, thankfully, is very compact. Last week, I took mine appart last week to clean it and put in some new thermal paste. I noticed all the same things you did (spare ram slot , usused 2.5in drive bay (I wish they extended the battery in there or provided the drive adaptor). I looked back at the Amazon listing for it and noticed that is has "AMD Radeon RX Vega 3 discrete graphics". The Vega 3 is an integrated GPU, so that phrasing would be misleading to someone less knowledgeable. There is one interesting thing I noticed when I took it appart. The heatpipe has plates that make contact in two different places. The first point of contact is the CPU-iGPU combo, located furthest from the fan. The second spot looks like a soldering ball grid array on the motherboard. It makes contact on this second point using a thermal pad (approx 1mm thick). I'm not sure if it means that there is something mounted on the other side of the motherboard or that it's just a mounting point for a dedicated GPU in a higher-end model. I think it's hilarious that the heatsink is this relatively big heatpipe running approximately 6in/15cm along the motherboard, but that it leads to a single fin next to the fan. I'm considering getting a cheap 4gb DIMM to put in it. I saw that there are drive adaptors available for 15-20$ and I'm considering that upgrade as well, but I'm not sure if it would provide enough power for a hard drive. Right now, my solution to the storage problem it to just leave a small flash drive plugged into it at all times. It's not very elegant, but it works. TLDR : I bought this laptop in late 2019 for 26% off MSRP. It arrived like new in original packaging. In my experience the warehouse deals on Amazon Canada are good, but Amazon US will send you landfill (n=2). The listing incorrectly states that is has Vega 3 discrete graphics (it's an iGPU). Laptop has 2 upgrade options, RAM and storage (requires adaptor). After 1.5 years of daily use, laptop battery lasts 3 hours. The charger is very compact.

I've got 3 of the 8" amazon fire HD tablets from warehouse deals and all of them were rock solid with nothing wrong that I could find. I've bought a couple motherboards from warehouse deals as well and the worst thing I had happen was a missing AMD backplate, with no io shield. That motherboard was like 44 dollars for a 90 dollar MSRP motherboard though and it was stated in the listing that it had missing parts. However I through it in a build and sold it, and the buyer is still happy with it.

As a former warehouse packing employee (in Vancouver too I may add) was that the warehouse deals that came down the conveyor belt were in 1 of 2 types of condition. 1 was a obviously opened box and usually a bit rough looking but it looked just fine as a used product. The second was a box that was absolutely wreaked and is barely being held together with duct tape.
@makuIa
@makuIa Год назад
sorry for the late reply. does that mean the laptops are in brand new condition but the box isn’t resealable condition so it’s a great deal or would you say a good number of the laptops were in used condition & looked beat around slightly. as someone who’s new to expensive computers i’ve always feared buying a used one as all my friends seem to treat theirs roughly even though they’re thousands where I treat my $800 laptop like a baby & has lasted me 5 years & even outlasted it’s own charger
@fuyerwolf3117
@fuyerwolf3117 Год назад
From what I've seen, I wouldn't say in "brand new condition" since they often have some sort of minor damage to them. Most often that I myself saw was scratches or a small dent. Honestly I would still consider it a good deal as it's easy enough to cover up minor scratches. If you're looking for a laptop in pristine condition, you're better off going to best buy or Amazon.

Dawid, thanks again for an very entertaining video. FYI, I purchase quite a few items from the Amazon Warehouse and it appears that the vast majority of their products have never been used. My experience is that the Like New are just returns like an Open Box item which has never been used. Some, like graphics cards are far less dodgy. I recently picked up an ASUS ROG Strix RX 5600 XT OC Edition Gaming Graphics Card for only $255 vs the new price of $340 at Newegg. I will gladly take my chances on things like graphics cards and RAM, but am somewhat leery of items like HDDs and SSDs. That being said, one can always run diagnostics on them to determine if they have been abused.

I bought an HP Envy 13 x2 three years ago from Amazon Warehouse in the US, as my wife wanted a specific model, and we brought it back to Canada. The screen flickered once in a while upon receiving it so I opened it up and reseated all the cables and reapplied thermal paste. It helped a little so I replaced the LCD cable (no effect), then the motherboard (no effect), then the screen (yay!), and it's worked fine ever since. I love fixing computers & electronics in general but it's a lot better if I know there's a problem when I buy it. The potential to save $400 was very enticing but I ended up paying 85% of the new cost but ended up with zero warranty for a 1yr old product AND had to buy another laptop in the meantime because the flickering ended up getting so bad. The silver lining is with the pandemic as I had a spare laptop for home learning.

2:36 You have just exactly described why I chose an older, refurbished Intel laptop over one of these. 4GB isn't enough _without_ the graphics card borrowing it, and even if it _did_ have its own VRAM, I'd rather have at least 8 GB of RAM. I now have 8 GB of memory in my Lenovo Thinkpad X240, which I got for about $40 cheaper on eBay. I don't mind not having a discrete GPU, since I have a desktop capable of playing all the games that I already have.

I purchased a similar laptop on sale a little while back, something that you kind of can call ''introduction sale'' that one of the electronics and household appliance store here has for first two weeks of them starting to stock various products, a Lenovo ideapad s145 with a R3 3200u, 128GB nvme ssd, 4GB ram, and I upgraded it by putting in a 8Gb ram stick and a 2.5'' 500GB sata ssd, and it works practically perfectly for general media consumption and office work. [Edit to add this] It's definitively worth buying budget laptop if you're using it for office work, paying bills etc, and it's worth adding additional ram stick to make it run it's ram on dual channel, especially if you're a student or someone that want a windows pc on the go, without having to worry too much about loosing anything expensive. The laptop I got was brand new at around 450 CAD / Canadian $, With the ram upgrade I did fork out another 75 CAD or so, didn't include the 500GB ssd, since it's a old ssd that I had put into a external enclosure.

I got a VERY good deal on a pair of Sony WHCH700N headphones. Price new on them is in the ballpark of $200. I paid $70. All of these devices came practically new as if they were tried by snobs and returned because they didn't meet their haughty expectations. In any case, I've gotten a lot of good use out of them. Warehouse deals may also mean the original box is not included or is severely damaged, but the actual product is ok. Can also mean a customer returned it because they just didn't like it. Maybe the original documentation got lost, a number of reasons why it's a warehouse deal and not necessarily reflecting the condition of the actual product.

I have purchased a fair amount from the warehouse deals section. I've never received anything broken or anything with missing parts. It's largely items in like new condition with packaging too damaged for normal retail sale, sometimes repacked in nondescript boxes likely because the original packaging was damaged beyond use. Twice I've had items just not show up at all, while annoying isn't bad as this is Amazon and they just refund quick.

Theres a lot of warehouse stuff that actually never left the amazon warehouse. pretty much anything that the outer box is damaged ends up in warehouse deals

I have actually gotten very good luck with Newegg open box and refurbished deals. My very first one was an open box of a LG 34 um 88cp but I picked up back in 2016. Retail for $1,000, got it for $560. It was in immaculate condition, I think somebody just opened up the box looked inside, said it was too big and sealed up and sent it back. I'm still using it to this day. Last January I got an Asus strix 5700 xt, open box, for $330. Only thing that was wrong with it, is the PCI Express bracket look like somebody was trying to force it into their case and it bent it. I haven't vertically mounted to bypass the mounting pressure issue, and it feels like a golden sample because I could get some really good overclocks, and some really nice undervolts out of it.

2 last items I've had from Amazon warehouse was a Xbox elite 2 controller, that was in box, and had all the items for it. No damage to anything, listing said scuffs but it maybe had one of the lightest scuffs in one spot on the bottom. 2nd was a Sony A6000 mirrorless DSLR, also full box all items for it. Looked new to me even it is said used like new. Both I saved some money on near new and the Sony I would say it was darn near new. Controller was nice cause at the time no one had a new one for sale, and I still got one and saved some bucks.

A couple of years ago at a place called Bargain Hunt when I was in Cincinnati for work I got an Asus ROG Laptop with a Skylake I7 and a GTX 960 that they got from Amazon Returns. The gimmick at this place was the longer they had something the more it was Discounted. (every 2 weeks) This Laptop was on the Bottom of the pile in their Electronics and I eventually got it for $200 (it was a $1700 Retail Laptop)

I got a cheap laptop this way, after going way over budget on the desktop side of my upgrades a few months ago. This was basically my only way to get decent specs with decent odds that it would be in usable condition. It arrived basically exactly as Amazon claimed it would, full working order but limited accessories, just had the power brick as far as that goes. Specs were as promised, and I get the performance I'd expect of those specs. Cosmetics were near perfect, I had to hunt to find a couple scratches- it was hard enough to find them that had they claimed it was cosmetically perfect, I would have forgiven them and not complained about the oversight.

I generally have extremely good luck with Warehouse deals. Bought headphones, monitors, motherboards, CPUs, RAM, VR headset (Samsung Odyssey+), phones (my Essential was $160, only a month or two after launch, just missing the charger), and tons more including my current 2080 Ti which had nothing wrong except for a tape peel on the box that made it look funky and saved me $138 USD. Not all are returns, some are just packaging that was damaged in the warehouse. The descriptions are generally very concise and accurate on what's wrong, and in the one case where the product didn't work, Amazon stood behind it and refunded the item. I'm certain that there are definitely some really bad instances on Warehouse deals relatively frequently, but anecdotally with a few thousand extra dollars in my pocket over the years, I recommend at least trying to find Warehouse items.

At the end of the day, it really depends on how much you are saving. I got a Razer pro 17 2020 with a 1TB SSD, 4k monitor and 2080 super-Q in Jan 2021, paying 2300 bucks (As of today, it's still selling at 2799.99), which is a great deal. Here's the catch: they didn't clear the system, and I had to contact the original owner to get the system unlocked and wiped. I was also able to learn from the original owner that why the item was returned and the condition it was in, which was pretty much brand new. It was a generally great and unique experience.

It would be great if tax was included in the price, but different areas in the US have different sales tax rates so the price changes depending on where it's shipped.

for this to be accurate, you would have to buy several products as some will come opened but untouched, others will have been slightly used. and for the 3 items i bought off amazon warehouse which one was a gtx 1660super sc ultra, i was able to register it on evga website for full manufacture website.

I've had good luck, purchased over time 2 laptops and 2 monitors, all of which were fine, saved a bit of money. One of the monitors had cosmetic slightly visible weird smudges on the bezel and one laptop had a scratch on the outside. Otherwise all worked fine. I still think it's a dice roll.

Never had the guts to buy something really expensive used of Amazon, but i did manage to snatch a fairly good quality wireless bluetooth keyboard for my samsung tablet & saved $35 because the "items box has been cracked & batteries are missing". Still works just fine.

I bought an Epson WF-7610 A3 all in one for £150 should've been £199. When it arrived it had a damaged panel (cosmetic) not mentioned in description but was otherwise mint even still had all the blue transit tape & peely bits, I contacted amazon they knocked another £50 off. Epson were also running £100 cashback at the time so claimed that and got the printer FREE. Still using it now, Epson still release firmware updates for it & it's excellent. Inks cost almost nothing via 3rd parties, best printer I've ever "bought". I had some right garbage in the past too. I even had something that was a box of bolts to make it weigh correctly, inspected by amazon my arse!!

You have to be pretty careful with Amazon Warehouse deals. My "Like New" electric kettle was obviously used (coffee/teal drips all over the outside) and was missing the base so it didn't work at all. Similarly, half of my "Like New" Command Strips were missing. Lol. I wouldn't be surprised if people remove the RAM so buyer beware, but you can also get some decent deals if there's no "consumable" aspect to the product.

I bought a redragon k585 keyboard from a warehouse deal, I do not believe it was a return though, I think it was damaged in their warehouse. It came in its original plastic cradle, but the box was missing. The corner of the plastic look as if it was crushed and pushed back out. And I also got a bunch of rubber pads and screws that didn't belong to the keyboard, a little search and I found they came from some really expensive iPhone stand by searching the review card which also was not for my keyboard.

If this is the Asus I know back in early 2010s, the other RAM is under the keyboard. I remember how bad it was trying to replace it by prying open the keyboard. But this one, I don't even know how to take out the keyboard.
