The battery doesn't last long enough either. If you use it too much you will have to replace it way often. The cost of a Nexon's battery replacement was at around 6 lakhs if I remember correctly from a report. Lithium ion is not economically feasible to put into an electric car.

@@abykuruvillaand who exactly said that it doesn’t last? We already have 100K+ driven Nexon ev’s on the tele group and one guy even completed 162K km his review is there on yt No range drop whatsoever Battery life is in cycles, avg LFP battery is easily 1500 cycles worst case Even if you get 200km range, that’s 300K km before range starts dropping Try driving 300K and count servicing (5K minimum every 10K ie 1.5L) and fuel (₹6/km like he said) ie ₹18L, you paid more for fuel than for the car itself

He’s talking from taxicab perspective not personal owner, taxicab business has to pay the driver, operate app, server, so there are a lot more costs associated to make it profitable for him Pvt owners don’t have these costs. Further, everyone knows EV is cheaper to run, so they have to price it lower than ola Uber else why would anyone opt for blusmart? See full podcast For Nexon petrol DCA, cost is 16.4L For Nexon EV LR, cost is 19.4L 3L difference at ₹7/km ICE running cost and ₹1/km for EV comes to 50K km of driving You can do this 50K km in one year or 10c that’s upto you, but one thing is sure you will recover costs. People would want to recover cost within warranty so even by minimum calculations, that’s 10K km per year then you’d recover in 5y rest 3y is saving

I don't think that's true. Price/kWh of Li-ion batteries is going down af. Now for a battery that is equivalent in a nexon ev would cost you about 4L. Even if you keep the margin high, say that it costs you 6L still ev is better than ICE

They didn't factor in savings of routine maintenance of EVs. The credits you get from many models. People are breaking even with electric at the very least. Especially if you live in a city, or a place where you aren't driving high way speeds for long. Now I don't know gas prices in India. That is a major factor. Yet with the way the geo politics is? I'd definitely prefer electric for security reasons. I've seen how gas stations run out the second shit hits the fan. I don't see gas prices ever going lower. Just higher, and higher. Just since countries can. Anyway I'm talking American economics. Right now it is a terrible time to buy new cars. I hear next year will be better now that supply chains are getting normalized. One issue with EVs? They are getting so much better so quickly. Next year has solid state, and so 2025 will definitely have 500 plus KW/g batteries. Used car market in America was terrible too last time I checked. Dealerships straight up raping people like they took a page out of the Brits colonizing India.

Only 30% of Indians live in urban areas and even then many of these 30% live in own homes Barely 10-15% total population lives in flats People can very well afford solar in India also because the labour and parts are cheaper than west But it’s just the lack of awareness and education. No one is ready for long term gain, they want short term gain but only gambling gives that Solar lasts 25y on warranty only and even beyond that. 3kW solar plant costs just 2L before subsidy and even cheaper after subsidy If you have ₹2000 monthly bill, it will become zero with solar. 2L investment recovered in 100mo or ~8 years Still more than 2/3rd life of panels left on warranty No maintenance no service, just clean it once a month for dust

In the present circumstances, economizing on fuel costs might not be practical. I speak from experience-I covered 360 km, recharging my car cost me around 1200rs. It's stressful dealing with unexpected battery drain, especially with AC usage. Finding recharge centers becomes a challenge with a range remaining below 100 km. Explanation for Novices based on comments: In Mumbai if you consume more than 100 units a month and divide the total bill by number of units consumed it comes to between Rs. 9.50 and Rs.10 per unit (the unit cost before all other charges is only Rs. 5.55) . In my last bill the higher per unit rate was 5.55 and the energy charge (265*unit rate at 3.45 and 5.55 slabs) was Rs. 1261. The total bill was 2560. So did I pay 1261/265 per unit or 2560/265 per unit? Now comes the initial setup cost. If you take a city like Bangalore a household has usually 3Kva single phase connection unless you have paid a lot for an upgrade to three phase connection. Apartments have to have their own transformer. So it you want a fast charger at home you need about 33Kva connection, need I explain why this is not possible?? So assume you use a 3KVA connection to slow charge the car, you cannot share this with the house as you will not even be able to switch on a single AC when charging the car. So you need a separate connection which costs about a lac+ without the wiring etc. for a house and if you are in an apartment you need a separate connection from the main line as you will not be allowed to use the transformer in the complex as that will overload it. So to compare cost, the interest of the upfront connection cost (1lac+) will be minimum10,000 a year (assuming less than 10% interest rate + maintenance) and assuming the average of 10000KM for a car per year and 110 watts per KM that is about Rs.10 per unit of charging in addition to the Rs.9.5 per unit charged monthly. The bliss of not knowing the cost of anything, but able to spew numbers. (Rs. 6 per KW of electricity, in which country?).

People want to feel good that is why they want to see good side to justify... Mild hybrids are good but Big battery Hybrids are bad of both worlds. Inside city running EVs are way-way better than hybrids. On the highway battery and motor are rarely used so it's dead weight and reduces mileage. So if you only want to commute, EVs are better, why burn fuel?? If you want to be on highway only than anyway hybrid does nothing. But people say oh it's better than ICE in city, and provides longer than EV & hassle free range on highways due to ICE.

Hope it helps. There are pure battery run hybrids also. Those hybrids are better. They use petrol engine to charge batteries only and use battery operated motors. They can be charged while plugged in or by using petrol engine as generator on the go.

@nishantpratapsingh6628 7 месяцев назад
EVs have very low cost of running due to low maintenance also.. no engine maintenance, no engine oil or coolant or other parts. Only brakes and tyres. If your monthly run is high above 1500-2000 kms or mostly inside city. Then go for EV. EVs don't waste energy when they are standing in traffic. problem of EV is mainly charging infra. But slowly it is popping up. Near most big cities or on all major highways now petrol stations have chargers. And it will increase in the future quickly. As 3 years back there were almost no chargers. Now slowly parking lots are also opening charging stations. Or if you are mostly doing highway runs and really so tense about range anxiety than go for mild hybrids only. But not plug in big battery hybrids.
@shresthsonkar9207
@shresthsonkar9207 7 месяцев назад
Monthly driving doesn’t matter As long as you daily driving is under the range of your EV (200km for Nexon EV) then EV works just fine. And practically nobody is driving more than 200km per day. The extra distance per month maybe added due to long road trips but data suggests that Indians don’t even go on long trips that often - only about 60 lakh vehicles pass tolls daily This includes commercial trucks and busses. Even if 50% (3million) were pvt cars, that’s just 1% of the 300million cars on the road So ultimately, if a person has 20-200km daily use then EV best If it will be less than 20km, then the person won’t be able to recover cost of EV before warranty period.

Unless they charge Rs 60 a unit or you are buying a truck, the difference in operating per km is from Rs.5-10/km. Battery last from 8-15 years, considering battery has dropped 90% in last 15 years, not necessarily but it might be a worthwhile option.

Rs 12/ km is unrealistic for any EV, leave aside the cheaper EVs. Most of the people are going to charge their EVs at home. Its both cheap and also prolongs battery life as fast charging depreciates battery faster than slow charging.

You are delusional if you think there is no resale value of vehicles over lakh km. I work in a garage and I see many scooters that are sold in between 10-30k range everyday. Recently I sold my activa 2011 model for 16k with more than 1L km. Talking about service costs , it only takes 500/yr for an oil change and other costs which is bare minimum. An electric scooter literally has no resale value if the battery isnt working . Also I can assure you most people arent getting over 100km mileage in metropolitan cities so that argument also goes out of the window.At most it can be close to 80. A petrol scooter can be refilled at any time as there is a gas station at every 2-3kms in the whole country which cannot be said for ev. The after sales services of evs are the most pathetic in the country . I have seen customers waiting for months over a small repair. So stop glorifying the ev market and replying to every person that is pro petrol just because you might have bought one . If you have to do lot of commuting or you are driving 1500+ km every month then EVs makes sense.. Near Mumbai almost every 15-20 km there are chargers on all fuel stations. 1-2 years back there was very less number of chargers. And charging stations are gonna increase.. so charging infra in next 3-4 years will reach at a sufficient enough level. India is not like America. India is very densely populated so almost everywhere there will be chargers, If electricity demand can be met. Almost all petrol stations on highways are gonna have charging stations. Parking lots will also have charging stations. EVs also don't have any major maintenance. So maintenance cost is very low. Good for environment also during their complete life cycle. Range anxiety comes only when you do more than 450 km a day.. or holiday multi day drives. As then you need to charge them full on your trip. Mild hybrids are good when you have range anxiety and do a mix of commuting and highway drives. Never go for aggressive or big battery hybrids. As these big batteries are just dead weight above 60kmph and high maintenance. Go for pure ICE cars if you rarely do commuting on cars and your total run is low. Less than 10000km per year. And mainly do weekend outings with family. Now you can save upfront money and then total running is low so fuel cost is manageable.

In bmw ix1 the bhp is 313hp and it costs about 70 lacs in India which is similar to bmw X6 and above 1 crore. But the main problem is the mileage. With the IX1 you can go nearly 350 to 400 km with a full charge and costing only about 1500-2000 while with the X6, it'll cost more than 11000-12000 inr for a similar range. The problem here is that in heavy monsoon there's no power... So how to charge...!? And electricity is getting costlier too. It was 4rs/unit became 6.5rs/unit now 9.5rs/unit

Let's say I want to replace the battery in a BEV, coz it goes dead after some years, then the replacement cost is too high. The cost of EV itself is on the higher side. Comparing those costs, both ICE and BEV's total ownership costs are almost same. Don't understand why people don't get it.
