I have always found digital a lot cheaper except on the new releases, and for most of the games I buy them on sale. A quick example, the last 2 games that I bought were Yoku's Island Express and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood. I paid $7.5 for Max The Curse of Brotherhood due to the Switch sale, its normal price is $15, in Amazon its normal price is $30 and it's possible to buy it used for $25, in Gamestop the preowned price is $20. I paid $10 for Koku's Island Express its normal price is $20, on Amazon its normal price is $40 but its on sale for $15. In Gamestop its pre-owned price is $20. ...and that's on USA (that has good retailers), in latinamerica retailers often increase the price around 50% for physical copies and some digital distributors(most notably Steam) decrease the price for digital games (for example, in Mexico the base price of Sunset Overdrive in Steam is $185MXN (around $10 USD) and in GamePlanet(the most important retailer of videogames, like the equivalent of GameStop) costs $999MXN, more than 5x the price).

If you buy digital games, you don't own the game, you've just payed the full price for a license. hypothetically speaking: If you bought a game from the PS-Store, and you delete the game for storage reasons, and a year later you try to download the game again, but Sony doesnt has a license any more for that specific game, you can't download it any more (small chance that this will happen, but still). You are not a owner of the game, you are the owner of a license. But if you bougth the physical version of the game, you are the owner of the game. This reason alone should be enough to buy physical copies. Plus ... you can't re-sell digital games or trade them in.

I support it because if want to play an Xbox 360 game it is better to play with a physical copy and a 360 atleast for me because I have a lot of storage issues on the 1 but none on 360 ever at least not yet. Plus some older games don't have any downloads on disc, and a related note you can't wrap up a digital product you can gift it but it won't be as cool to receive a present underneath your tree that says "check your messages."

I agree with you. When I was a child, I loved trading in my games at eb games Canada, to get trade in value, to use it towards new games or pre orders. As I am in my 20s, I much prefer buying digital games. Since I have a physical disability, I can not open the flap to put the switch games inside, so digital games on the switch the best and only way for to play and buy my games. Also, the fact that I pre order Smash 2 days before its release and I was able to download it and play it at 12:00 pm est. All and all, nothing wrong with my physical games or preferring them over digital. All I can say to you and everyone else who loves physical games is, enjoy it while you can because, soon, physical games will not be available and stores like eb games and GameStop will no longer be opened.

You can’t really say that physical games are done and not updated because a lot of physical games are able to be updated,. Take Super Mario Odyssey as an example, you could be the physical game and have a lot of things in it but when Nintendo added new things to the game, such as new costumes, Luigi’s ballon world etc. people with physical copies of the game also got that update which proves that physical and digital games are very similar with very few differences
@esmooth919
@esmooth919 5 лет назад
What he meant by that was: in the old days, nobody had access to DLC updates because the internet wasn't a thing. They just release the game on cartridge/CD/DVD, and that was it. The only way developers could update games back then was to rerelease it. You see how Capcom handled the Street Fighter series back in the 90s, right? Nowadays, with the internet all but widespread (it ain't all over the world yet), most of us have easy access to those updates, whether we go physical or digital.

@diegoprodriguez

My choice, I do both. There’s something cool about the idea that I own this copy I have, rather than signing a contract to use it when I download it. If Nintendo ever decided to cut support for the eShop for the Switch, or Assassin’s Creed 3 gets taken off, I like the idea that I can still play. However, there’s also a cool idea of having all my games together on one console and not having to worry if I lose my Switch Case, I lose all my games as well. So if I But digital to begin with, but if I happen to go to my local store and get a great deal (for me, if it’s more than $30, I’d rather buy a full priced game), and finds Smash Bros for $20 (Real Story) I’ll buy it.

@senpai1618
@senpai1618 5 лет назад
@Pinkamena Pie yes, they have the rights for the game but they PRACTICALLY have no controll over it. It is really easy to take a copy from a game on a CD. You can't erease the files on a burned disc wich runs on a console that does not belong to the company that made the game. And not everyone uses the internet on their device, so the company cant delete ALL games if at all. Besides that, terms and condition has to be signed like you do it in Steam or Google Playstore. You have to accept them every time. If I walk into the next gamestop and buy a game this is not the case. I didn't sign anything and nobody warned me. THIS would be a highly illegal scam. It's like saying I bought a new microwave, but I only have the right to use it and ot does not belong to me. This is bullshit. I walk into a store, I take what I want and it belongs to me. Nobody can take my property. You could argue that games are intellectual property, but so are books, music and paintings and if I buy them there still mine. The only thing that I'm not allowed is to say that it is my work or to share it in public.

@Pinkamena Pie Do you see the irony of what your saying? Some games are unplayable without a patch? Some games aren't even complete on disc? There selling unfinished games. And people like you only pay for the rights to play those games ruin things from a cosumer perspective. This isn't some natural progression. This is the game companies slowing pushing the narrative that digital is the future. To slowly wein you from physical. And idoit cosumers eat it up because they look at from short term benefits. Convenient downloading. Never physically lost or broken. There not looking at the unforeseeable future. Bankrupt companies, server shutdowns, simply being banned from using the service for whatever reason. And not only can companies take games away legally, but more importantly they can EASILY do this. Yes perhaps legally even on disc were paying for the same right, but PRACTICALLY it fairly difficult to single me out and take my disc. But they get around this by selling an incomplete game, and downloading patch and/or integrating server support to closely with the game. AND on top of that digital cost the same as physical, even though it should be cheaper as they completely avoided the manufacturing cost. Yes there are exceptions, but that's the general rule. That alone should tell you how dishonest and money hungry these game companies have gotten.

@catguy4996
@catguy4996 5 лет назад
Agreed. But to be fair, it will probably be a *long, long time* before they shut down the online servers of the Switch. They only shut down the Wii shop because it uses different servers to the 3ds, Wii U and Nintendo Switch (these 3 consoles use Nintendo Network). It was just most convenient.
@warship21
@warship21 5 лет назад
You still have the games on your console and can play them even if they shut down the servers though so I don't see your point. I think it is safer digitally because physical cartridges can be lost and in that case, there is nothing you can do. On the other hand, if you lose your sd card or something you can just redownload the game (minus your save maybe) and it will still be ready to be played. If they shut down the servers AND you lose the sd card then you might have a problem though considering they haven't even shut down the server for 3ds it won't be anytime soon.
@phinyo2066
@phinyo2066 5 лет назад
@@warship21 This. I never understand why people say you can't play a game after servers are deleted. As long as you don't delete the game or lose the SD card, you still have the game on the switch and can play at anytime.
@tacot9930
@tacot9930 5 лет назад
@@warship21 while yes the games can be played without the server, the switch can fail, the file can corrupt, the sd can fail or be lost, and the game wont have any value as soon as you hit purchase on your switch. Physical games can be kept, and you physically own it. It can be traded, borrowed, or sold as any other property you own. So yes while youre less likely to lose your games in the short run, you sacrifice having real worth in a game, and the ability to play on another switch when the servers leave.

If you move constantly, carrying hundreds of physical games can be problematic. Also, if the console in turn is a handheld, carrying tens of physical games can be a bad idea, because they can be easily lost or stolen. Lastly, customs can be problematic if you want to pass with lots of physical games, but with digital games there is no problem with customs. It's ironic that the only consoles that can still play physical games without installing copying all the data to the console are the handhelds (the ones where there could be more reasons to go digital).

@@NottJoeyOfficial I don't have a room like that but I have lots of games(10s physically and 100s digitally) and is not that great because I can only play one at the same time and I have limited time, making pointless to have that much, also the Paradox of Choice(look for that in Wikipedia if you don't know what means) makes me hard to be satisfied with a particular game and I end leaving unfinished most of them.

I like to have digital copies of older games to save the hassle of plugging in my older consoles. However sometimes these games are then not compatible with newer consoles or get removed from the digital store. Nowadays I only have the physical version of a game if that game is special for me in some way, if it really deserves it. For the rest I go digital, specially for some Indie or Arcade games, or games that are usually played in shorter sessions here and there, for example Slay The Spire and Dead Cells on Switch. Although these are quality games, would be pointless having them psychically and having to change cartbridges everytime I want to play them, plus you usually have those kind games in more than one platform. At some point I also did a serious cleaning of my psychical collection to only keep the most iconic/special games for me. Must be something related with age where you usually become more selective for things (in general) over the years.

I recently bought Spider-Man PS4 with all the dlc on the playstation store for a lot less than it would take to buy the disc and then the dlc separately. However, I also just bought a physical disc of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey at a deeply discounted sale price of just $30 and I can get the season pass digitally and be still under the full retail price of the game alone. I feel like this will become more common as time goes forward.
