Should You Buy Red Dead Redemption in 2022? (Review) 

In order to play RDR2 I picked days that I wasn't busy, damn it really DEMANDS you to slow down to get things off your head, replaying it on PS4 recently

It's literally my favorite game oat WITH RDR2, I adore this games :)

I loved rdr2, now i am starting rdr1 for the first time. I'm sure I'm in for a treat!

I don’t mean in a literal sense. In the RDR2 epilogue John explains that he doesn’t like to talk about Arthur is because it’s a hurtful topic for him. Like how people don’t want to talk about deceased loved ones because it’s too painful so yes there is an actual “reasoning” created for why John never mentions Arthur in this game. But yes from a literal standpoint it’s because the character didn’t exist within this games universe. Thank you and have a great rest of your day!

@@masterassassin791 ah, sorry. I thought you were referring to reasons given within the first RDR game. The way you stated it seemed to imply that you could understand the reasons the characters of RDR1 give to never mention Arthur. As if John said something like, "I don't much like to talk about my past to strangers." In the middle of an RDR1 mission or something along those lines. I still think the reasons given in the RDR2 epilogue are kind of weak, but I suppose they had to address it in some way.

@@indiana_holmes I personally think they made Arthur way too much of a significant influence in John’s life for him to never be mentioned. It’s one of my main gripes with the writing of RDR2. If you’ve only played the first game, you’d think Dutch was John’s biggest influence since he spoke of him so highly to people like Reyes, Fordham, and Bonnie. "The leader of the gang taught me how to read. Taught me how to see all that was good in the world. He was a great man in a way." "We rode in a gang together, under a fella called Dutch. We were all bad kids. Lost. Angry and forgotten. He kind of saved us." "Dutch was a good man once. A far better man than you." So the fact that they didn’t develop John and Dutch’s relationship more in the prequel was a jarring choice. Especially since they decided to make Dutch behave like an absolute dick to John in RDR2. In RDR1 it seemed like John and Dutch’s relationship was mostly good until the gang left him for dead after John expressed concern over the state of Dutch’s mental health.

Redemption is pretty much the Revolver re-do. John Marston is just the character they originally intended for Red to be.

Unless you have played rdr2 first..... I wouldn't recommend massive steps down after rdr2 set the bar literally the highest, im waiting on someone to beat rdr2 in terms of a sandbox game.... Its NOT even close.... Rdr2s camera angles are untouchable, fishing..... Hunting.... Just running around in first person and looking at details.... HOW could u go back to rdr1?

@@holeindanssock156 pretty easily, just understand that they came out at different times. Both RDR and RDR2 have things that make them wonderful.

@@holeindanssock156 Before RDR2 I thought GTA V was a masterpiece, but boy after the first two chapters, GTA V doesn't hold a candle to RDR2 (I love both franchises don't get me wrong)

@@holeindanssock156 How could you go back to RDR1? I can give you a few reasons. RDR1 has vastly better gunplay than RDR2. Especially free aim. It's more responsive, controllable and allows the player to develop more skill with it than RDR2. RDR2 ruined aiming by adding awful gun sway and reticle bloom, making auto aim the playable option, and free aim a nightmare. RDR1 has way better ragdoll physics. The enemies always react in dynamic and varied ways when shot. RDR2 forces the bodies to fall in preset positions and the ragdoll reactions are stiff. RDR1 has better difficulty balance. You can actually die in combat. A single shotgun blast from up close can kill john. In RDR2 you are a god. You literally cannot die unless you're a total moron. You also get 100 health tonics that instantly refill your health. RDR1 has infinite fun activities and random events. RDR2 has a limited amount of bounties, duels and scripted random events that never repeat again, making the end game world feel dead and boring. RDR1 has more gang hideouts that are more close to each other. RDR2 has only a handful of hideouts that are very far away from each other. RDR1 has more and better mini games. RDR1 has better ambient music. RDR1's outfits give you cool gameplay perks, such as disguising yourself as an outlaw and being able to peacefully walk into gang hideouts or collect more resources etc. Simply put, RDR1 has better gameplay, RDR2 has better graphics, both have good stories.

@@holeindanssock156 honestly RDR1 is a lot better than 2 in my opinion. 2 was better at times, but was so unbelievably bloated

I played it 10 years ago at a friends who I was living with as I just moved out of home, I had not gamed in years and in my downtime from trying to find work I played this on his XBoX 360 while everyone was out at work, it was a magical experience, I got back into gaming a year ago and am now playing it again on my PC through emulation and loving it! Looks so good at over 60 fps at native 1440p

That's why I don't understand the carriage taxi. Why pay when you can just camp and fast travel for free

@@CorYxKeNshun not an L really. RDR1's best aspects were downgraded in RDR2. Worse aiming, worse ragdoll physics, messed up the health-damage balance.

I definitely enjoyed re4 and rdr1 but not fallout new Vegas, it just looks kind of bad not to mention it being rushed in development and also confirming to have bugs

I mean standards evolve, I loved it back in the days and having tried to play it again on my PS3 a couple years back it also runs iffy, struggling to hit 30 fps at times and after being used to 60 that's much more annoying than aliasing or a lower resolution will ever be (GTA IV has the same issue even if it was much worst there), it's a shame that the PS3 lower resolution doesn't do the game's graphics justice tho The Xbox Series version runs a hell of a lot better (I haven't checked but I'm pretty sure it runs at 60 fps) and is the definitive version but yeah in my case having to choose between PS3 and PC I'd rather wait for a port or remaster or whatever

Old school difficulty is probably the best way to use your stances

I mean. You can play both how you want. But you maybe wont like the mechanics of rdr1, that was my experience. But if you want to go on a accurate timeline. Play rdr2 first. Then rdr1

@@RobertEdwinHouse9 if ur only after the story it works if u decide to buy the console there is most likley many other games that ll catch ur eye aswell so even if u get it for one game it ll benfit u if not u can always sell it

in my opinion playing rdr2 first is better, since all the references to rdr2 they made in the first game make sense. i played rdr1 first an all that background information had no substance

I'd say play RDR1 first. Half the charm of RDR2 is because of RDR1. You'd get more enjoyment of the first game as well since it isn't tied down to Modern Rockstar Game Formula. It was made at a period where Rockstar shined the brightest in Gameplay and Creativity.

Better play it on Series X because it's native 4k. The series S use the base xbox one code which is 720p
