They both sound good but I preferred the clarity of the c80. The mids on the AKG are a little cloudy compared to the c80.

Seems to me that both mics are good gear for the money. I'd like to hear them combined on your vocals - seems like they'd compliment different parts of your voice and you could treat the high and low tones differently. I know that wasn't the goal of your video but I enjoyed the review and it got me thinking a bit. Thanks for the video.

Both sound great, Sony has a softer high end, with less transient detail, but I prefer the C214 high end and transient response.

Listening with a pair of M-Audio BX5 with my Creative SoundBlaster AE-7 soundcard, I found the AKG a lot better. It has a fuller sound and better clarity over the Sony.

yeah thats because the akg c214 is using a ck12 capsule like telefunken ela m 251 and all those thousand dollar mics, sony c-80 super crispy but the frequency response is not the best and it dont use a transformer or tube so it sounds dead,

On Monitors, AKG sounded much better and present while the Sony sounded cluttered and fatiguing to listen to. The mix sounded a lot better with the AKG as well.

Don’t trust monitors , listen with some apple AirPods ! That’s the best thing to listen to these in . Trust me I have 2 sets of monitors but all these monitors be lying lol I swear ! The Akg is more present but it’ sounds sandy in the lower frequencies! The Sony was just smooth and cutting thru ! But not as much presence as the akg

I'd say stick to the TLM103, since the mic is a lot better than those you mentioned (imo). Although, if you like the others more, you should go for them instead.

nope, none of them fit perfect, u cant do it upside down, but u can put the kaotica eyeball ontop of the shockmount if thats cool wit you

No, Not for me. I will buy the C 80. Better clarity and Soundstage and i tested a Sony Mic before and... Amazing Sound with my voice. I also have a Neumann Tlm 102 thats Sounds a little to muddy for me and a lewitt lct 440 pure that Sound a little to harsh

AKG is the clear winner here and that was honestly no surprise! Lol Don't waste your money people.. Their are better options out there for the price! I personally wouldn't buy anything from Sony unless you can afford the Sony C800.. Sony is amazing don't get me wrong but their cheaper stuff just ain't it.

I was 💯% disappointed to hear the AKG WIN!!! 🫤 EDIT: Came back to listen again. SONY sounds cool but just seems darker. I’m wearing ATH-M50’s Headphones & u can hear the room just open up letting the vocal shine thru when he switches to the AKG. It just felt and sounded better overall, still… IMHO… 🫤🫠 *I currently record with Warm Audio’s 8000G Sony Clone. 😈

Sony mic does sound good, at least over the internet in my ear's, would say the akg is a little bit more airy providing a little more presence. Both mics sound great, also helps when you have a good voice =).

All of the best notes were sang on the AKG in this test. It wasn’t on purpose I don’t think it just played out that way. The C80 has similarities to a c800 and I’d rather go that direction than ANY akg ive heard ever.

i got the c-80 and recorded with c800g studios. I prefer the c-80 go figure, i find the c800g harsher in the highs. The c-80 has that clarity too but is more neutral to me. It could be the only mic you will ever need for vocals. I say that and im a neumann fanboy so that says something lol

i love sony mics, but for deep vocals i would say a ck12 capsule mic like the akg c214 beats the sony c-80, the akg c214 is the most affordable mic with that capsule next to the advanced audio cm414 than paying thousands for a mic with that same capsule to get that full body sound

@@drillgirl718 Brass capsule. It's my favorite on acoustic guitar though. But for vocals I dunno. The C80 works great for modern vocals and the 414 feels flatter in response (with a hint of air). C80 also works better in a not so treated room, I feel my 414 picks up more of the room.

The AT4040 is a great mic! The difference between this Sony and the AT4040 is not big enough to consider upgrading. For now, stick with your AT4040.
