Short answer: Absolutely not! Long answer: This game was released in early access in 2015. The game is to this day in early access and has less playables than ever before. The Isle devs are the most incompetent developers I have witnessed in a long time. Lead developer Dondi is an asshole, who frequently bashes on his own playerbase, and shows zero respect to the feedback and concerns of those who have bought his game. Add to this the fact that stamina consumption in this game is so atrocious that it takes 10 minutes of sitting, staring at your screen, for you to run 1 minute. Rinse and repeat. For the love of all that is holy, ignore this clusterfuck and play something like Path of Titans instead. PoT developers allow the modding community, hold respect towards their playerbase and actively provide updates with new mechanics and Dino releases.
The isle cons: (I have 2.2k hours on the isle so i know what im talking about) -Performance issues (Low fps even on high end pc's + a lot of fps drops) -Ping issues (A lot of rubberbanding) -Sound issues (sound flickering and cutting for no reason) -Slow development (been in development since december 2015, which is 8 years ago, 1 update every 7+ months on average) -You spend 70-80% of your playtime in the juvenile stage afk on a bush -Cannibalism+ Cross-species teaming -Unbalanced dinosaurs -The developpers suck, they hate on their community when people complain + bad history of devs being p*ssies, dondi (lead game developper)is a f*gg*t -LOTS and LOTS of glitches and bugs
I agree the game is great but I can't get Evrima to save my keyboard/control settings so each and every time I play I must set them up again which gets quite annoying. Lots of bugs and glitches as in any early access game but very very immersive and actually quite relaxing, in an enjoying nature while fearing for ones life kind of way. The game really gives you an honest perspective on the constant struggle of wildlife for survival.
the murderhobo-ing of the community is what really killed my like for the game. Carnivores its kinda sucky if they kill without reason but at least my corpse will have a use later. Herbivores though just become kill-on-sight monsters who only care about their own fun. Almost impossible to play a scavenger as intended when you just immediately get slurped up like a noodle or smashed into pulp. Those community servers sound neat though I'll check it out.
Me who bought the game years ago when it was just colorful dino skins and few playable and same migrate, fight, chill but couldn’t play it cause I had no pc so watch RU-vid videos of the game.
1500 hrs, I'm calling it quits!, the discord community and devs are toxic, the game is broken in so many ways and with every patch it only gets worse, nearly 10 years in development its just a joke at this point.
Yeh getting ambushed by each of every type of Dino at the same time is tiresome. Being solo and trying to kill somebody thinking they are alone only to get killed by some other species.

This game is great. I miss Legacy global chat sometimes, and other things, but i love whats happening with evrima and i think it's 100% best dino game out there . I mean PoT is just a rpg for dinosaur and if u like rpg games u may have the inkling to say PoT is better but that's just based on your already bias preference...... not on the actual game type. Survivor / horror survivor ..that ends up having soft rpg elements in it anyway Plus comparing a game in development [the isle] to a completed game [PoT] is kinda a shot below the belt.... and the fact Evrima blows it out the water without being done.... speaks for itself.
I just bought the isle on discount after a couple months of waiting for it, and honestly I'm happy to say I've enjoyed the game thus far. My only problem with it is that my geriatric gpu (GTX 950) can't handle the Evrima/"Beta" version of The Isle. It dips down to 15fps if I dare to look straight to what's in front of me. It's somewhat playable if I look down to block most of the landscape, but what's the point of that though. This is not a complaint, as UE5 (the engine that the game's been migrated to) is very recent and, evidently, my GPU's just not good/recent enough. Most of my experience is in Legacy (which is completely playable, performance wise, even at high settings) and it has been very fun to try to grow as a dino and compete for survival with other players.
Really? 7/10? It's laggy af, has the most toxic, disrespectful, actual trash developers who NEVER listen to the community and the fact that this game has been in early access for what, 8 years now? How can ANYONE recommend this grift with a clean conscience is beyond me. If anything, because of the dev team alone this game is NOT worth it.
It's all about the fact that it has no competition. The other dino games are too videogamey, only this one attempts being an immersive existence sim. Creature sims in general are exceedingly rare, and people wanting them are desperate for anything and are putting up with bs they would otherwise be rioting over. Same reason why it took so long for people to start calling out all those equivalent rubbish Dragon Sim early access games, except there may be more of those out there compared to dinos. (which is bs that there isn't even one well-realized one of both groups, but that's this wretched industry for you) But yeah they're completely incompetent, don't actually have a coherent direction (what's the point of the planned humans and mutants, and who wants them?) and eventually will crumble and the game will disappear, and no amount of deceptive shilling from the beaten wives that is their fanbase will change that.
maybe they aren't looking at all that in-depth bullshit the gameplay of the game is pretty good if you have a rig that can support it all the other stuff you mentioned is irrelevant

I love the game but hate the devs. It's worth $20, but then you will be trapped loving this game that is *so* close to being good but never quite making it due to the overall game decisions made by the devs who will never take criticism and feedback from the community. If it was a bad game, no one would care, no one would be complaining on Reddit or here and we'd just forget about it. The models, animations, and environment are a work of art. But it has been *so* close to being what so many people have always wanted since 2015 we stay frustrated and in this love/hate relationship. They say they want this game to be a sandbox, but then won't give servers any feature that they deem outside of their 'vision', including QoL social features. They ban people from their Discord (the only place to get reliable tech support) for any reason. Dondi replies to feedback on stream by saying if we don't like how the game is now then we shouldn't play it.
SHORT ANSWER: YES. It is worth it. FOR ONLY 20$ and on sale for 13$ sometimes, currently its def worth it, would I have reccommended it afew years ago? NO, we went through and passed the dark ages of Isle. NOW, we're in a good place and so far cruising.
The Isle now has Gateway (New Evrima map), which is far more survival orientated due to new mechanics than Spiro (Original Evrima map which you reviewed) which tends to be more pvp orientated.. by the way the Evrima beta is about 3 years old
If you know the history of creation line of this game, you'll understand more the course in which it's going. You can't rush greatness, just because you want to play it now. Appreciate just what it is atm, have fun and be your inner dinosaur. This was a fair evaluation of the game.
About 3 weeks ago, a completely new Gateway map was released with new mechanics and much bigger and better than the one shown in the video and the need to sit in a bush to grow is partially gone.
Not really, the game actually encourages you to afk in a bush now if you are an herbivore. You are forced to go to hotspots if you want diet, otherwise your growth and stats are stunted. Since you now need to go to hotapots for diet as an herbivore, you are being corralled to an easy spot for packs of adult carnivores to camp and kill juvies, subs and small to medium herbivores with ease. Hiding in a bush at the corner of the migration zone is the beat bet for growing an herbi unless you have a stego herd to protect you. The stamina and healing changes incentivize afk for both herbivores and everyone else as well. You are forced to play the game like an apex no matter if you weigh 20kg or 8,000kg (walking or trotting everywhere unless you want to have zero stamina to deal with inevitable combat, or having to sit/slow-walk forever to regen anyway). As a carnivore i just go to the canyon by the atrium to grow, i eat bodies from people who fall in on the regular and afk in a bush
@@somerandomperson6511 can you be discovered when you are afk? So lets say after playing for an hour I go to the other stuff after 6 hours I return to the game, can my dino be hunted in that time or you despawn???
Idk why people complain about humans being worked on and planned to be added, because I think it’s genius. 2 games in one. It would add more people by widening the demographic. Playing a dinosaur is just ya know, surviving as a dinosaur with other players and a few people scurrying around. Playing as a human means surviving and completing missions while avoiding dinosaurs, but the dinosaurs are all players. It would increase the player demographic by a lot
As a long time Isle player I actually uninstalled the game recently. Yes, it is worth the low price it is at the moment. But then you get do deal with the devs, who never listen to the general feedback, who change things that didn't need to be altered. Gateway map is beautiful, but not optimized. They wanted to move away from players going afk in game but with the new stamina changes, they have now forced players to sit afk in a bush for 10 minutes to regain stam, and turned it into a dino walking simulator. They haven't even listened to the community about the low tiers (beipi/ptera/troodon} about how they shouldn't have such horrible stam. The ptera flies for 2 minutes then has to sit for 10 minutes to gain stam to fly? How is that fun? They also advertise on Steam Legacy but will not update it for the Steam updates so now people can't connect to servers not hosted in their regions. I know many people that prefer legacy but the devs want it to die. There are many things wrong with this game (mainly devs and their decisions) which is unfortunate because this game could be so great.
Play that as a ptera or beipi and they're a waste of time dino now. take off shouldn't take so much stam if they aren't gping to alter the system, ptera should also be able to eat while flying and latched. simple additions so they can keep their system @@Bleghspread
I bought the isle several years ago while it was 75% off, i’d say it has given me a good deal, even for $20 i have gotten more than enough out of it, but the new update is trash outside of a few improvements (mostly aesthetic improvements like the graphics). I would not pay $20 for the current state of the game
More dinos are on the Horizon, with a new one entering the development pipeline as soon as the newest one is finished. currently there are 3 Dinos nearing completion.
There are 5 more dinos planned to release in the next major patch sometime soon (diablo, dilo, herrera, rex and trike) as well as an apparent “mystery dino” which i personally assume will be magy, sucho or para but it could be anything really
The isle is such an interesting and immersive game. It’s so fun and unique but I have to say I just can’t recommend it. You only get the optimal experience if you full grown and between that is a lot of getting one shot, starving because there’s little to no food around (epescially as deino) and the idea of AFK for hours to get full grown then losing ALL that progress because you die to one of the many unbalanced and overly punishing mechanics. I myself was having a blast after FINALLY getitng a full grown deino. But only got to enjoy it for like two hours before something small bit me and i bled out. At the time I was new and had no idea how to heal bleed or that bleed doesn’t show your health dropping, so to me it literally just looked like i dropped dead from only taking 3 bites from a young deino that was nowhere near my size and lost around 16 hours of progress. All because of an overly punishing mechanic that the game tells you NOTHIGN about or how to heal. And the idea of having to sit 20-30 min after every pvp engagement because the wound and healing system are so overly punishing and take waaaaay to long to heal. For every moment I had a good time playing the ISLE, I had ALOT more more fuck I really don’t wanna play this anymore or this is really fucking boring feelings simply because of how unbalanced and punishing the mechanics are and the only way to survive these at the moment is to just sit afk and hope nothing fucks with you. I feel as tho it would be much better if growth was just a hit faster. Would mean that pvp engaments would be more frequent and death would be far less punishing. Never before have a felt so defeated and lost from a single death and loss of progress that it led me to uninstall and swear off a game. I wasn’t even upset or angry I was just…defeated and sad. The fun you get from the Isle is amazing. It does what it does very very well. But the constant afking, over punishing death and health mechanics, crappy hit boxes, glitches, and having the slightest mistake take all of your progress just kills anything good I have to say about the game.
