Just got a black 2020 CHR. Yes it’s not very powerful, but I love it. The smoothness in how it drives and the interior makes driving around so much more comfortable. It’s very pleasant all around. And the look is unique enough where you don’t just blend in with every other car out there, but not so funky that it looks...ugly. Great car. Love it.
There’s a sport mode in the screen settings not the main screen it’s the one by your speedometer not much of a difference but there’s a sport eco and normal mode
@Danielle Haenga it doesn’t pick up speed very quickly. The only time this is noticeable is when merging on the freeway, or when changing lanes and you need to get up to speed quickly. It’s not impossible, it can just feel a bit sluggish compared to many other cars these days. Corolla is a great car btw. Whatever you go with, you can’t go wrong. The CHR for me is just so damn smooth and comfortable to drive day in and day out.
I have a 2019 C-HR XLE and love it! It is my daily driver. It does have different driving modes: Normal, Eco & Sport but they are hidden in the menu screen. Real missed opportunity to not have a "Sport" button by the gear shift. We got the car for the great driving position and the incredible safety features. The XLE is packed with safety features found on much more expensive vehicles and it comes complete with 10 airbags! The chief engineer is actually a race car driver and the handling was fine-tuned on the Nurburgring in Germany so it handles around turns very well hence the G-monitor. You get the impression the designers wanted to do much more with this car but had to scale it back to reach those MPG numbers. Toyota does offer, right from the dealer, high-performance TRD parts for this car which I got and installed. I have the TRD Air Intake Kit for more horsepower and torque and the TRD High-Performance Lowering Springs for even better handling. I can tell you I no longer get 30 MPGs but the car accelerates much faster now especially in Sport more and this is all bundled with that legendary Toyota quality. Where I am at we have what is called "Toyota Care" so for the next 3 years I do not have to pay anything for any oil changes or other routine maintenance costs. I do have to pay to have the disc pads replaced but it is an incredible value. My family and I are definitely glad we got this car.
I have a 2020 C-HR XLE and I really enjoy it. I actually had a 2019 LE and the 2020 XLE is a HUGE upgrade. I have white with the black top so the blue trim inside looks much better than the blue with red.
@Dylan Báez That is a nice combo. Not too many cars even have 2 tone paint as an option so my wife and I definitely had to have it. Our C-HR is metallic blue with a white top. I finally had to get new tires. I bought Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for my C-HR. These are amazing tires and I don't think I will even reach the limits of what they can do but with a sale at Discount Tire they were only $20 more than what Toyota was offering me for the OEM tires so I went ahead and got them. Definitely a nice upgrade for the car. Enjoy your ride!
Not necessarily, as after you got up to 70mph flooring it for 13 minutes downhill drafting other vehicles one by one as you increase speed a tenth of a mph at a time, you may be afraid to let up on the throttle in the 55mph zone.
Check Toyota Corolla crossover out What do you guys think about the new Toyota Corolla crossover SUV that they are making soon, parabrisas.perfil.com/noticias/novedades/toyota-corolla-cross-nuevo-suv-argentina-brasil-motor-18-datos-tecnicos-hibrido-tailandia.phtml
I LOVE the blue inside the car! It looks so cool, pun not intended. Blue and orange are complimentary colours on the colour wheel so that is absolutely brilliant and make each colour pop. That's just my humble opinion. I love your videos! :)
I had the C-HR hybrid as a rental car last year in France.......loved it. When I got back home to the US I had to have one. I was severly disappointed when I found out the hybrid version was not here and wouldn't be here. The salesman talked me into driving one (US non-hybrid version) and I was highly disappointed. If they brought the Hybrid version here I would buy one on the spot.
When an auto is severely underpowered it actually defeats the goal of high gas mileage in the long term as the engine constantly has to work harder just to keep moving.
I have been waiting for this review of CHR. Im one of the requester. Thanks for getting it done. As always... GREAT UNBIASED REVIEW !!!! Goods make sense and Zonks make sense. More views, subscribers n power to this channel !!!
I just got this car in silver & the hp does not matter to me whatsoever because it is an suv so it’s not like I’m gonna be flooring it on the highway trying to race a mustang or charger. It’s a nice comfortable car & it looks great
Although it's missing a sunroof I'll always give Toyota a thumbs up 👍their reliability is unmatched I'm in South Florida I still see the boxy Toyota Corollas on the road.
With 184KM version you got 0-60mph (0-100km/h) in 7.57s: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AO0k8_41YVQ.html so pretty good imo (150km/h in 15.33s)
Add a turbo or a higher hp engine and I'd be all over this. Though damn, love the design of CHR. In the end , like you and some here have mentioned the Seltos is the one to go with.
Totally Agree. I have a 08 Avalon and Noway I'm going from my peppy V6 to that, even though I really like the style. Will just have to wait and are if they kick it up a notch. I hope they do because I will buy it.
I bought one of the first 2020 Toyota chr in the usa in lava. I had seen the European videos and fell in love! The dealer called all over looking for it and said that only one was sent to the US and it was in Montana. The inside is all black without the blue. I had test drove the chr that they had on the lot and really didn't care for it and hated the blue. But mine is totally different in the way it drives and thankfully didn't have that blue in it. My little lava chr gets tons of compliments and looks. I love it!!
Joe, like you I enjoy everything automotive. Out of all the reviewers you are by far the best. Keep up the awesome and most importantly educational reviews!
@@RaitisRides That's all you ! I'm looking to buying my first car and these reviews are really helpful so I can weigh my options ! Keep up the videos and you can expect me to be back for more ! Huge thanks !
Lemme start off by saying I love your reviews. They’re suuuuper detailed and thorough. A few glaring mistakes in this one I noticed tho. The C-HR came out in early 2017 for the 2018 model year here in the states. The wheels are not all new for 2020, they’re the same wheels they’ve had since 2018. The LE and Limited get some new rims for 2020 tho. Also, the part of the front where you said should have fog lights...it does on the Limited. Also, you mentioned that there are no drive modes, but there absolutely are. There is Eco, Normal and Sport. They’re selectable in the 4.2” MID.
Wish I had a dollar for every time I've seen the comment "Yeah I would buy one if not for that darn CVT". Not just for the C-HR but the reviews of any car that has one. The CVT is really only bad if it's poorly built i.e. the Nissan Jatco version. If you take quality out of the equation and focus strictly on performance the CVT beats basically any other transmission out there, automatic or manual. To prove it just perform a search for "Formula One and CVT". You will find several articles that detail how a CVT was installed in a Formula One car way back in 1993 and it performed so well in testing it was actually banned from Formula One racing before it turned a single lap in competition. The Formula One governing body did this because it was TOO fast. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one. The only real design issue they had to overcome was manufacturing a belt that could handle 850 HP, which obviously they did. One of the Road and Track articles sums it up perfectly. I am paraphrasing, but basically it states: "The real reason your performance sports car doesn't have a CVT has nothing to do with technology, but rather human nature. Car guys want their sports car to sound like a sports car. They want the revs to rise and fall, they want the engine to "audibly respond to their commands". If you want to bash the CVT for a reason like this, that's fine. Just don't trash it for anything relating to performance, because those reasons are just not valid. Who knows, maybe one day an automaker will have the guts to offer it as an option in a performance car. After all the latest Corvette doesn't even offer a manual transmission, so I guess anything is possible.
I am driving a 1.8cc 2019 model in malaysia..metalic blue with a black top...usd37500 on the road... high import tax... the looks itself is so satisfying... just love the compactness and the mysterious feel...the sound system is immaculate...is a great car with the Toyota TNGA...
We are pleased with our 2020 Limited. Looks great. Fuel is better than rating last fill up was 5.8L/100…in winter 6.8. Seats can handle a 5hr drive. Android Auto is great. Set the cruise and never worry about power, it can keep up with fast traffic so the drag strip number isn't relevant in most conditions. My criticism would be small interior space for the size of vehicle, hurky jurky cruise control and hard to clean all that angular plastic and concave body surfaces
I’m a resident of Maui and I have the Blizzard White 2019 CHR LE. From Kihei home to work in Kahului to gym and to home, for one week, my car is still running above half tank. That’s $20 for a week and a half. I’m satisfied, I’ve seen the updates, I’m good.
I actually bought one of these when they came out because i just liked the look of it. Was quickly disappointed when i went for a grocery run. Not a lot of cargo space and had to put some in the back seats. 2 months later, i traded it for a type R. Im sure im the first in the US to trade a CHR because they had no data to give me a number on my trade lol
So I bought one of these in the XLE trim. It took me 3 months to figure out this thing had a sport mode. It’s in the settings under drive mode. The screen is kind of hidden because there’s no indication that the user is able to arrow down to pull up a second sub screen to get to drive mode. Totally found it by accident. Long story short, The CHR handles much better and is a lot more zippy.
I like a lot about these cars except for all the silly blue on the interior. I guess if I were to get one, I'd either try to buy a blue one or cover as much of the blue interior up as possible. I think I'd rather have a used older Scion.
I just bought one of these and I have to say it’s not as of a lackluster driving experience as people are saying it’s very comfortable and the engine is responsive. It’s a four cylinder non turbo so I don’t understand why people think this is gonna be some kind of roadster. But honestly it drives extremely smooth I didn’t find the engine noise to be bad at all. Out of all of the crossover vehicles in this class this one looks the least like a budget, soccer mom mobile. It just has more of an edgy factor to it. This car definitely looks and feels way more expensive than what you’re gonna pay for it. It’s not everybody’s taste but it’s definitely unique and has a very futuristic look. If you were a fan of the scion lineup you’ll like this as well, was originally slotted to be a scion hence the strange name C-HR.
We just got the 2018 model. 8000 miles. Traded in a 2013 Hyundai Elantra 2Dr coupe, 98,000 miles. Seems to be the same styling as the 2020, saved $8000 over a new one and SHE loves it!
Another great review. I really wanted to like the CHR. But, the horrible acceleration and the back styling is just too much. And, I have to agree with you. That blue interior trim looks awful. Stacking tootsie rolls like logs? LOL. You are hysterical. Thanks again for your great reviews.
My car goes from 0 to 60 in 9 seconds and I worry when I have to merge into a highway from a stop. A car that is 3300 pounds really should have more power.
@@fakedazzleful u are right. Sunroof are mainlu for styling. Not of real use. Panoramic roof are useful but still, have the peugeot 3008 and never opened it
Sunroof isn’t just for you to get tanned by sun,you dimwit ! It give you the feeling of spaciousness especially in a cramped, tight and dark interior like C-HR!
My wife has a 2018 XLE Premium in blue and white that she bought new. Her first Toyota and probably her last. Nothing but trouble with the electrical system. There’s a parasitic leak somewhere that the dealership can’t find that drains the battery. Had to have it jumped around 7 or 8 times in the last year and a half. It doesn’t even have 5,000 miles on it and it’s on its second battery already. See how long this battery lasts before it dies.
I would love an si manual version like the civic. A 6-speed stick with the same engine as the civic si would be awesome. I know they will never build it, but that would be a sweet spot for me.
Just test drove this car today and it's a lot better in person than it looks. Honestly, not bad at all. Fun fact: this was originally projected as another Toyota Scion model (hence the spacious approach, small engine, modern look) but when the big shots decided they would no longer manufacture scions going forward they opted on keeping the model w/in Toyota family. Also, it has 10 air bags, most vehicles we've seen as we car shopped had 6-8 air bags. Toyota Yaris has a 2021 crossover model (that seems similar) coming soon.
Love this vehicle. However XLE is the middle trim. if you had a Limited you would have gotten some of the features you were looking for like integrated fog lights and blacked out headlights. Also the blue interior is amazing on the right color exterior. idk why someone would put the blue in the orange. Glad to see you talking positive about the CHR tho. No one in NY wants one cause they're FWD. I have like 1 on my lot!!! 🤣🤣 Keep up the vids!!!!
14:32 Basically what I wanted to know from the beginning of the video. Seltos is the vehicle to beat. AWD and all those kits for the price is a better buy.
Add a little more power, a manual transmission and drop the blue and it would be a contender. Priced right but the CVT transmission is a major letdown.
The base model and the Limited trim both ditch the blue. I LOVE the blue in my color (white) and I think it works with most other colors... But with this orangey red and the other fire red one, that's a no.
I don’t like prop rods either Joe. Also, don’t worry about what you zonk. This is YOUR opinion, not anyone else’s so zonk them all you want man! Great work as always
I just realised even the highest trim CHR sold in North America is not as highly equipped as the ones sold over here in Europe. Not sure why...for example we get proper full Adaptive LED with projector, the rear also gets full dynamic indicators that moves like in Audi models and brake lights are also full LEDs as well. Also Europe version CHR makes 185 bhp. Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto are also standard.
This guy is not very informed about the previous model years of the C-HR. It has been around since 2016, but NOT in the US. The 2018 was the first model year in the US. Also he claimed the wheels and spoiler were new and exclusive to the 2020 model. That is false as they were on the 2019 and 2018 models. Also Apple car play was an option in 2019, but not for 2018. He also didn’t realize the USB ports in the back seat are new in 2020 (very useful). He also doesn’t mention the enormous blind spots in the back seat due to the rear A-Frames. Also doesn’t mention the adaptive cruise control which is its biggest feature. Competitors do not allow ACC to slow your car down to a complete stop, and forces the driver to take over at around 8MPH. The C-HR actually slows down to 0MPH and waits for the car ahead to continue moving. Allowing the driver to only have to steer.
I have the 2019 CHR, one of the many "small" details missing, there are no auto locks. Since the year 2000, you get into your car, start the engine..doors lock. Not in this futuristic hatchback. Some might say, that's no big deal..but if you're been driving for almost 19yrs WITH that feature it is a problem. Another issue, I had to replace my windshield because of a crack I was gifted with on the highway. Anyway, insurance paid for the windshield, HOWEVER since there are 12028382 cameras on the car the windshield needs to be calibrated and of course, ONLY the dealership can do that. #Can'twin
Nice statement earlier about the prop rods. Here's my idea: if the prop rod is placed largely out of the way, as in this little C-HR, it's not an automatic zonk. The prop rods placed front and center are terrible, and also the ones a little off center. Zonk them every time. But on the C-HR, it is largely out of the way. And prop rods age infinitely better. Older cars always have failing gas struts that need to be replaced, and they aren't exactly cheap in some cases. And for folks who rarely get under the hood, it really doesn't matter. I've met tons of folks who don't even know what kind of engine they have under the hood, much less the size, much, much less the bore and stroke and specific hp/torque numbers.
I keep seeing a lot of people diss this car haha so it’s confusing me on my choice. I want to buy this and I’m 18 still in high school. We found it near us for 22k for the xle trim. I really liked the car and thought it felt smooth. I know it may be slow but I’m not particularly trying to race anyone 🤣 it just has to make it through college. I don’t know if I should choose the Nissan kicks instead, I drove it and it was nice but I feel there were a lot of features I wouldn’t use and didn’t fancy the orange stitching. Blue is my favorite color haha
The CH-R is a really cool looking car! I agree for sure when you say everything should be colour coded. What would really set the tone would be a panoramic sunroof with the 2 tone look and a bigger displacement engine. Maybe a 2.5L with AWD. Other than that I’m really digging the looks
I bought a 2019 one to hand down to my teen in 2 yrs time but I got rear ended and it was completely totaled. I can say safety wise it was good.. I had no major injuries even though I was hit at over 50 miles.. Overall it was cool looking but I hated how slow it was and the kids complained about the back window. No Android auto on mine so that sucked as well but it looks like it's fixed. Replaced it with a model 3 dual motor but I still have to get a cheap safe car for him. I am thinking Kia Soul EV maybe.
@@randall.3189 I don't know because I have never driven the Corolla. This was just a cheap car I bought for my son. I have always had reasonably fast cars (BMW M3), now my Tesla M3 Dual Motor and even my Escalade is no slouch. But this car was dog shit slow..
