This is not a sponsored video, I purchased these boots on my own and the thoughts expressed in this video are entirely my own.
If you have questions or want to share your experience with these boots please share them in the comments.
Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the honest review :) For such an asking price of a boot comes great expectations, and after watching this I'll be sticking to my Salomons :)

Glad to hear this video was helpful! I've been using the Danner Mountain 600 for hiking and they're way more comfortable! Similar price range as the On Cloudrock but they definitely look more like a traditional hiking boot. If you're wanting a more sporty look maybe look into the Columbia Newton Ridge Waterproof. I haven't tried these yet but I've been wanting to because they seem to have similar features as the two boots I mentioned but for half he price. Good luck!

Review summary - They are light. They are really waterproof. They perform well going uphill and downhill. The cushion is comfy. But I didn't swap the laces and didn't go 1/2 a size up, so they are not worth $230.

I agree that the Danner 600 are probably the best all around boot. I’ve been thru about six pairs of them and although the oldest look rough they are all still wearable. I just bought a pair of the Cloud rock 2 for $242 with tax. They are really nice but I don’t think they will hold up near as good as my Danners. Good review.

not a perfect boot, an "almost perfect boot". $200 is a lot for me, people budget and value money differently and that's ok. Perks of having so many options, we can all find something that works for us :)

I’m surprise you didn’t talk about the “stone collector” issues. Especially walking on trails I am assuming you had to stop and pick stones out every once in a while? Can you confirm if this is an issue and if you’re going through muddy trails you’re going to get dirt stuck in those pods, which should be so annoying. Just wondering what your experiences with this?
@roamingthetrails
@roamingthetrails 9 месяцев назад
Occasionally I would get pebbles stuck in the bottom of my shoe but I wouldn’t stop to pick them out, I would just stomp and they would fall out on their own. It wasn’t ok big of an issue for me but it may have just been the trails I went on. As for the mud I can’t remember a time where the trail was so muddy that it got stuck in the pods. I haven’t worn these boots much lately ever since I switched over to my Danner boots so I can’t say much more on these boots.

Hello, thank you. Incredible review. In your opinion and as you said, answer the best you can. What are your thoughts, do you think they would work for law enforcement? I work highway patrol. I do alot of walking on and off the highway. Dirt, rock, road, sand. 10 - 12 hours a day four days a week. Thank you!
@roamingthetrails
@roamingthetrails Год назад
When I hike in them I’m on my feet with a heavy backpack for 2+ hours so that definitely contributes to the discomfort. I think if you’re on and off your patrol car during your shift they should be relatively comfortable because your feet will get little breaks. The grip on these are great which is good for the different terrains you’ll face. And you can’t go wrong with waterproof shoes if you work outdoors, so that’s a plus. if you need to run for whatever reason, you’ll have the speedboard to help propel you 😁

How are these compared to the Vivobarefoot FG tracker you reviewed last year? Are these more or less comfortable compared to those?
@roamingthetrails
@roamingthetrails Год назад
They’re hard to compare because they’re so different. It’s an apples and oranges situation. The Vivobarefoot were comfortable because of the footshape design, but they were too minimalistic for my current needs. The On are comfortable because of the padding and cushion but the narrow toe box and high arch support made it uncomfortable for me. I think I need something that’s in between the two styles.
@esoekidjo
@esoekidjo Год назад
@@roamingthetrails interesting info thank you. I feel I need more space for my toes than more cushioning. I’ll give the vivo tracker fg a try. I’ve read that putting an different cushioning insole in the trackers could give more comfort.

@@esoekidjo My. husband has had his for over a year, he put an insert and said it made a big difference with comfort. He does wear barefoot style shoes almost daily and I do not, so that also impacted our individual experiences with the trackers. Something to consider if you go with the trackers.

I normally wear an 8.5. Would ypu tecommend sizing up?
@roamingthetrails
@roamingthetrails 6 месяцев назад
If you like a snug fit stick with the 8.5, if you want a little more wiggle room go up to a 9. I usually do really long hikes and my feet will swell a bit towards the end so that’s why I prefer for my toe area to have a bit of space.
@sdemosi
@sdemosi Год назад
The Cloudrock 2 is a better boot. It's more comfortable, durable and the laces stay tied. That being said, I appreciate boot reviews are made to be helpful to potential buyers but most commentary about fit and comfort is subjective, unless the shoe is terribly designed. The question "are they worth the price?" tends to get negative comments because it is also subjective. I've been buying hiking, trekking and alpine climbing boots for over 30 years. I'm a US 13 to 13.5 in most shoes and boots. Some brands and models fit me better than others for reasons such as forefoot size, the degree of flare at the midfoot, heel width, toebox shape, tongue design, arch support and other stuff which is specific to my foot. I suspect many many consumers wouid find the ON boots very comfortable and would have a better experience than yours. I found the sizing too small and needed to size up. I have the same experience with Adidas Terrex and Mammut. It's not an issue if I simply buy my JPN size but even then On shoes and boots are similar to Salomon in being a bit narrower and low volume in the toe box. Not uncomfortably so. That's my experience as someone with wide feet and splaying toes but other wearers may find them perfect. From an objective point of view as an owner of many boots, I found the On boots well made, the grip very good for a light hiker, and the cushioning extremely effective. If I was more price conscious and they fit I wouid get Adidas Terrex skychaser 2 boots instead as they are just as good in many ways and available for big discounts. If I was planning more mountain hikes with tougher terrain I would look at Mammut Ducan, Sapuen, Scarpa Mescalito, Zodiac, and various other boots that are much more suited to hiking on rocky trails and off trail scrambles. The On Cloudrock is a premium priced product that is not as capable for mountain hiking as other similarly priced boots. It is not intended for that market however. If someone has the disposable cash and the On boots fit them then they are great alternatives. If you want a tougher On boot then go with the Cloud Alpine.

The build quality for proper walking is not good enough. The soft padded cotton material at the top is really dreadful, if you catch it on anything in the woods, it tears. Had mine fixed with leather instead, much better. The laces are thin too, so they break easily. Which would be fine if they sold laces, but they don’t. I wouldn’t buy them again.
