I was attacked by a pack of feral dogs in Louisiana while deer hunting. Never, never go into the woods without a sidearm. It saved my life, can't say the same for 3 of the 5 dogs.

My wife’s coworker was stalked by a mountain lion who charged him while hunting here in Nevada. Darn right you carry.

In California you can’t carry a firearm when you are bowhunting. Picture this, making turkey or predator calls from your ground stand and have a *protected* mountain lion stalk you. Nope, I carry concealed and will deal with the warden if he ever stops by my stand.

Damn skippy! As my nephew said when he is in the Middle East, “ Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6”.

Have you ever had to deal with the wardens out that way? It seems like they would completely understand. I guess it depends on if he's having a great day or not?

Here in Alaska, there is a constant debate as to what is the best bear defense. Many I know carry .44 Mag or larger on the hip unless you are in chest waders, then it is a chest rig. Homesteaders use a 10 or 12 gauge with buckshot or a mixture of shot and slugs.

Tom, I know you are big on training after purchasing a firearm but another training that needs"I think" to be pushed is keeping a kit to stop bleeding not a boo boo kit and how to use the kit,if you are by chance hunting or at a range or how ever it would happen do you know how to use a tourniquet or pack a wound. Just thought you'd be the one to get the ball rolling ,thanks.

Being in Montana I carry a 1911 45 in a shoulder holster. We have bears, wolves and cats all of which can be worse than 2 legged varmints sometimes.

It never occurred to me that you wouldn’t carry a handgun for a multitude of purposes/reasons when in the field. For those of us that handgun hunt there is a backup then as well. That’s just the way I do it.

Interesting question. I suppose carrying something more concealed would be ideal.

I carry while I hunt one time I was scouting an area for deer season and came across a rattle snake shot it with my shotgun and had a malfunction and couldn't clear it until I got back to my car 2 miles away I'm glad I carried a secondary that day whether its for bear cougar snakes or latter that day a person tailing me on public lands

Let me tell you, in the times we are in now, I don’t leave my house without a firearm period, that includes the woods. Look online to see the three men that were brutally murdered just yesterday in Frostproof, Fla. Anything can happen, especially in the bear woods. In South Fla we have black bear and panther. In Central Fla where I mostly hunt we have panther. Damn right I carry.

With elk, moose and bear, cougars... all it takes is one time to have a bad shot with your bow or a jam in your rifle, and you'll never not carry a sidearm. You guys kind of sound like people who have never been mugged.

There are some states that allow hunters to carry a 22 rimfire pistol to finish off a wounded animal with.

This is not directed specifically to you. The phrase just triggered me. LOL! And this is the best place to talk about it, where most people will probably agree with me or at least discuss it in an honest & intelligent way.... "There are some states that allow..." Why do WE allow "Some States" to "Allow" us anything? The Constitution & 2nd Ammendment are absolutely clear about our basic human rights. We need to stand up for our God given, human right of self preservation. No government can give or take away any basic, God given, human right. That includes self preservation, with any tool that we see fit for that purpose. Maybe we need to protest or even riot so we can get our point across. Seems like it is pretty effective to get what you want, whether it is right or wrong. Real Americans started a dang war over the accumulation of several smaller infringements upon our rights. One of those small infringements was taxes placed upon tea! They didn't allow anything like federal or state income taxes, did they? They would regularly, or at least did it enough to have it noted in historical texts, would "tar & feather the tax collector, then ride him out of town on a rail". Have you ever looked into that? What that means? Dang! Not fun. They definitely didn't allow the government to convince them that it was a good idea to murder our own babies out of convenience. We need to step up & make changes. Get this country back on the right track. Attempting to do that on your own, or one by one, will immediately mark us as a racist, anti-environmental nazi, or improperly pushing our white privilege upon everyone, even if you are not even white. We will be labeled & separated from our own supporters, marginalized & humiliated into surrendering our cause. That's all I can say about it. I'm not even an expert on the situation. It's getting late. I'm tired. I might say something improper & start up a word war. Oops. I might have already done that. 10-4. Over & out!

Shooting frogs just for the hell of it strikes me as pretty stupid. Unless it's an invasive species. Like an African Goliath frog that eats any native wildlife it can fit in it's enormous mouth. Native frogs are part of the food chain that other native wildlife depend on, As far as defending against a bear attack, as a primary defense I like a magnum size bear spray in a chest rig. Also carry a minimum of a .44 magnum if permitted. I prefer a shotgun loaded with slugs.

Wildlife, two and four legged variety, prefer the blitz attack. You may or may not have your rifle handy. You'll either respond standing up or knocked to the ground. H*** yes you carry a hand gun within easy draw form either position. My rifle is for hunting. My handgun is for everything else that wants to dance. This advice is for EVERYONE who enters wilderness domain for any activity. Serial Killers, Grizzly Bear, Black Bear, Mountain Lion, Bobcat, Moose, etc., they all live and hunt in my part of the country, and they all have no fear of people. Once you enter the wilderness, you lose all rights as an American and human being. Your safety and life is in your own hands. There's no 911 up here to save you. Yell for help all you want to, rescuers will only find bits and pieces in evidence of your existence, or the existence of your love ones. Just food for thought before you make a mistake and leave that sidearm at home!

Got 9 minutes into the video just couldn't finish it. Ryan please get yourself a new co-host. This rambling of shooting frogs with a m1a, wearing flip-flops and a straight brim hat guy has got to go. In my opinion you need someone more professional. Just my opinion which means nothing really.

I carry when I'm cutting my grass. That is in addition to my tomahawk & Buck knife. You remember what happened to "what's his name" a while back when he was cutting his own grass? He was attacked by a neighbor, I think. Had some ribs broken & was hospitalized. Then there was the "softball game attack". Now, many major & a number of not so major cities are burning to the ground. Gotta keep our eyes open & be ready for anything whether it's deemed "legal" or "illegal". Nobody is going to watch your back except for you & your own family & friends. The rioters think the police are supposed to be protecting us from them. They are so full of sh...., I mean "full of themselves". What is really going on is that the police is protecting the rioters from us!!!!! They don't even know what they are asking for. If they get their stupid way to defund & disband the police, the riots will undoubtedly multiply in intensity. The line will finally be crossed. We will get pissed off. Then they will have nobody to protect them! There will sadly be injuries. They will be sent packing back to their parents basement or their expensive college dorms. Even the few black people involved in the riots will decide to go back home. Not a good situation, for anyone.

I always have carried a handgun when hunting. Even upland game bird hunting in Arizona, I’ll pack a Glock 17, or S&W M&P 5” barrel in 9mm, or a Glock 22 (.40) for the two legged thugs. Too many armed coyotes bringing illegals across the border in mass. My sidearm is for protection against those potential thugs that might try to rob me. It used to be rare, but look at the assaults that have occurred to unarmed people in Oregon pipe national monument. You are you’re own 9-1-1, because the police aren’t coming in time.
