When i was in school there was this boy who was very popular he was in drama club with me and he convinced the drama club to enter a float in the homecoming parade. He also talked us all into being on the float dressed as our favorite character of plays we had put on. It was great! For the first time, we ALL got to cosplay in a safe manner. We also got a lot more kids interested in joining the drama club.
heavy on the picking thing though, my school felt super safe last 2 years but this year me and my cosplay friends at our school have been targeted for bullying/ being made fun of, soo please make sure youre in a safe space when cosplaying at school
I was into cosplay as a kid and i dont particularly remember thinking it WAS cosplay, but whenever school had a dress up day (spirit week) i would ALWAYS dress up. And i would do certain characters. But now that i am a "cosplayer" i would most certainly say i was cosplaying back then!
Remembering highschool me in a full handmade Belle gown on stage for the finals of the costume contest....lost to a guy with a shipping box on his head dressed up as the lmfao robot in the party rock music video...
As a previous administrator for a high school in school support program, could I suggest: if you're a subdued/wanna be cosplayer or someone who supports/appreciates it, PLEASE offer support! Acknowledging, saying hello/offering a supportive comment and/or the appropriate hand gesture () would be so welcome!
Absolutely this! I remember not being in costume on Halloween in my senior year, but a grade 7 showed up in full Homestuck cosplay and I made sure to tell them I liked their Karkat cosplay, and as yearbook editor made sure to snap a pic for the yearbook. 👌
One time I just decided to randomly go to school in full rolling girl Miku cosplay and I got SOOO many compliments😭 but also many weird looks, the pigtails went down a little past my knees and it was a bit annoying otherwise it was fun👍
If you think about it this can be applied to the workplace too. Some like where I work have occasional theme days and most of my coworkers are dressing up tomorrow
happened once where I work. but there was no theme restriction. just do your best if you want. there were three (maybe 4) exceptions. the (female) bosses all came with the same cosplay. realistic police uniform. including gun, batton and cuffs. a shame we were forbiden from voting any of them for best cosplay because they looked better than great.
This!! I went to school for my middle school halloween costume contest in FULL handmade goddess madoka cosplay, wig and everything - and I lost to a guy dressing as a star wars character. All he won was a small goodie bag of candy, so luckily I wasn't too pressed about it, but it still was disappointing after putting in all of that effort lol.

This isn't exactly on the topic of cosplay at school, but I just wanted to ask. Most of the video I see of people at conventions are in anime costumes of some sort. Is it okay to be in a costume that is NOT a anime character at a convention?
There are cons of specific themes that will probably draw crowds of similar people and cosplays as well. Some will be focused on everything anime, so you'll see a heck of a lot more of them. Others might be comic book themed and have a lot of super heroes. But I don't think that you are forces to dress to those themes, even if it is themed. You just might not see anyone else like you there.
im going to my first big con soon! not in cosplay so i don't really know why im watching this content but im just hyped. I joined a discord for a meetup at the comic con and making connections now!
for 100 days we have colors assigned to each day of the week, I've been to school twice in cosplay before(halloween) so I'm thinking about cosplaying that week hehe
The only time I get to cosplay is Halloween sadly even tho I'm in a public school, they treat us like we are in a private school. The dress code I have is horrible.
I cosplayed in grade 8 as Hatsune Miku for halloween at school and I had a great experience. I got compliments from tons of people, so I would recommend! But it depends I think on who you are cosplaying.
Great video. I like the bump in the production improvement on the video. Things have changed alot since my school days. Back then, cosplay was non-existent now there is good number of cosplayers at any level of school.
My friend and I are doing a duo on Halloween this coming October, he's being Doma and I'm being Shinobu (Demon Slayer) and he plans to annoy the heck out of me for the reason of "acting in character" yeah sure buddy 💀
hello, i am a young n not exactly a young cosplayer but a young person considering cosplaying and i have a few questions and concerns. for one, is homestuck an appropriate media to be cosplaying in middle school?? it has a lot of nsfw/questionable jokes, and an even more questionable community, so i am kind of iffy about that. second, it feels kind of weird to buy cosplay things online, because all i've ever learned about getting cosplays is people just make it themselves, even though that's probably not always true. it kind of makes me feel inferior in a way? let me seeee do i have any more stufffff uhhhhhh nah not really love that jade harley cosplay by the way
>old comment but anyway >i have seen people cosplay/dress up as much worse at school, homestucks age demographic is teens and young adults so i wouldnt say its THAT crude. >its completely fine to buy cosplays, the point of cosplaying isnt just making them, and we all have to buy some kind of material anyway
@@cronus_ampora_totalwizarddeath thanks!! i am not very much into homestuck anymore. love joey though. i could squish her cheeks and they would ooze out like playdough.
@@AnnieChieDesigns yes it is a simple first cosplay not like link from botw i got the leggings and shorts from target and hoodie from amazon cus not knowing how to sew
Im pretty sure my school has no dress codes lol ive seen ppl literally wearing a cropped zip up hoodie over a bra which i think is good even though i would never
