I do have 4K capable cameras but have hardly ever used the feature. Also after checking analytics, only 4% of my views were watched on a TV. I am not going to quadruple my cost of production to cater to 4% of viewers. The downside is that you need hard drives and SD cards that can handle it, along with a pc capable of playing it back. If you want to archive your footage, you also have to consider the cost of backup. I don't think it's worth the difference, especially if you are a RU-vid creator. I can see occasionally using 4K if you have planned in advance to use some type of image manipulation in post. I have about 35 RU-vid projects posted and my saved files exceed 300gb. I doubt any of my stuff needs future proofing, but I would like to maintain backups of all the stuff I've already shot.
