No thank you I do not like 50mm lenses, 45mm and shorter are ok, 55mm and longer are ok. Back in the 70´80´and 90´a 50mm was only a cheap kit lens that was parked back down in a dark corner and never used, I do not see all the modern fuss about the 50mm lens, stop it. But if you can get your hand on a Voigtländer Macro Apo-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 it will be very awsome :D
You inspired me to buy a 24/1.4G and yep, it's a great lens. I really like its versatility and uniqueness. We all fed up with standart portraits on 85-135 mm lenses with completely blurred backgrounds. 24 mill gives a bit different portraits - shallow DOF and wide angle in one frame look different and eyes-capturing, we aren't used to this frames coz it's not standart. The background is blurred but due to a wide angle and bigger DOF (in contrast with 50, 85 and so on) you can show there's the subject at the moment and simultaneously isolate it from background. Oh, i really found my all-time-favored lens now!
I bought the 24 GM not long after seeing your review in Japan. Next will be an 85 but I've put it off to see what Sony comes up with next. Their 85 GM is too big.
I think they will likely make the next 85mm a 1.2 which will be roughly the same size if not slightly bigger than the current 1.4 The 1.8 85 is a great choice though! Small!
I bought the Sony A7III in 2019 with the 24-105 G F/4.0 lens. After a year of using that I was really noticing that most of my shots where at 24 mm or 105mm. I sold the lens and bought the 24 mm Gmaster F/1.4 and the 85mm F/1.8 from Sony. Best decision ever but to be honest, I hardly put the 85mm on. Once you get used to the 24mm on a Full Frame camera it becomes a second nature to take a closer step for portraits. Foodshots with the creamy Bokeh are amazing aswell :D. Ooh and BTW, your videos are amzing, keep them up! You are my GO to channel why I decided to go with Sony.
Had 7 lenses and when I fell in love with 24mm, I got the collection down to 3. 24mm 1.4 GM, Sigma 24-70 art, Somy 85mm 1.8. Less choices has given me so much more freedom
Good one! When I first tried a 24mm my reaction was, whoa, everything is so far away. But it only took a minute, and it has become my favorite lens for everything. With that one and a 50mm or slightly longer, I'm all set!
The 24mm GM did pair up very nicely with my both 50mm f1.4/55mm f1.8 for cosplay events. As the 24mm did allow some nice wide shoots and the 55mm did a solid job for portraits. I also paired those 2 for Italy. 24mm handled food. 50mm did a fair number of photos and portraits there also.
iPhone is like 26mm though how come it doesn’t look distorted? Is it being processed in real time or something? I’m trying to get a similar field of view as my iPhone 13 Pro
24mm looks pretty cool. People talk about distortion (and it's there), but you are using it for this talking head (from the chest up, in this case) video and I think you look good (#nohomo #AmIallowedToSayThatAnymore?). You were right in the previous video that a 35mm would feel very similar to a 50mm. If you are careful about what's at the edges of the frame, this could become a really fun focal length. I love the forced perspective shot your wife in the frame. It's amazing how everything behind her looks so far away and yet you guys are in a train.
*How far away is your camera for this video?* Thinking of buying an A7IV and either 24mm or 35mm for RU-vid talking head. I have a smaller room, so my camera will be on my desk (which isn’t that deep).
Love this video. Killer travel shots too. I’m getting the a7c and have been debating what lens to get. I usually shoot wide or tight, very rare I’m in between. So I think this vid just helped me decide what first lens to get. I’d love to see a similar video on longer focal lengths.
Love you videos ! dont even like this 24mm lens --just got mine --- I like my buildings with straight walls, hate squint/ bendy in buildings, distortion... guess its not for me ..
So what other benefits besides a lower aperture is there to a single zoom lens like FE 24mm F1.4 GM and FE 35 mm F1.4 GM vs the FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM? This one lens, I guess in theory, can do both in one lens, right? Clearly I am missing something and I am just really curious. I love the video, I have really learned a lot thanks to you and all your videos! Keep up the great work!
As a nature and wildlife photographer mainly on bird photography. I dont even know why tf Im watching this video buuut on the other hand i never owned and tried one only got up to 50mm maybe give it a shot 😅
i have the canon 80d and i want to get the 24mm 1.4 from sigma i really like sigma lens especially their art series. i like canon but they are tooooo expensive i like your videos you;re a cool dude jason but i need your help i want a flash for my camera and i'm looking at the godox 860 ii help me out
Such a great video. This is exactly why I subscribed such a long time ago. Love your videos on the 85mm just like this one on the 24mm. Hope there will be other focal lengths as well. Keep it up, Jason!
Don't know how much more of these i can make! Otherwise every lens is a lens i can HIGHLY recommend 😂 But i will dive deeper in a series on how to utilize each focal length
You are really convincing me to get the 24 mm prime. I have a 35 mm f2.8 so I'm still a bit on the fence, but I definitely can't vlog with it and I would like something versatile for when I finally get to travel again! :) Thanks for sharing your opinion- it means a lot to us!
Hi Jason, nice videos man, actually they pushed me to Sony instead of Nikon. I started photography as a hobby just 6 month ago and decided to go big equipment wise. I picked up a a7c and the sony 24mm GM and hardly put it down since then. Ok, maybe sometimes when I am at work to afford more photo stuff :). So anyways, since I am totally hyped with this new hobby it was well worth it for me to invest in another prime lense. 3 weeks ago the sony 135mm GM joined the team. To be honest, it is a big lense to carry around, but the results are fantastic. The combination of these lenses allow for a wide range of targets to shoot, and since composition wise, the look of these lenses is so different, I wont get bored with these two in a long time! Ah and btw., as a bonus, cause of covid I am working from home and man, you should see the envy of my colleages when I am using the 24mm to show up in team meetings :) So, greetings from germany, keep it up!
You have such FANTASTIC videos. You make me want to escape my desk, grab my Nikon, and GET OUT THERE! Thanks for fanning our flames for the love of photography.
I got this lens used for 1100€ and it is great! I had the Loxia 21 before, but 21 was too wide for me (Although I do landscape photos) + the F1.4 is amazing. Personally, I would prefer a manual 24 F1.4 tho :D
You can't really talk about a 24mm 1.4 lens without mentioning the sigma 24mm 1.4 alternative! I got the 24mm 1.4 sigma and the 35mm 1.4 sigma for less than the price of one Gmaster lens! and I love them! but great video! love your perspective of this focal length, and I agree that the 24mm is the sweet spot for a wide angle lens, I actually think anything wider becomes too wide, especially if you shoot a 16-35mm at 16mm
I was just googling this as I was looking for a more versatile lens for documenting trips and stuff too...only knocks I saw was that the Sigmas were much larger and heavier
Hi Jason, such a great video. So helpful in our quest to find the perfect vlogging camera. What size lens would you suggest is best for vlogging? We know you said here 24mm isn't too bad. We are looking for the best for wide angle. I may have to save up more money between the camera itself and a lens $$$$$....LOL. But seeing your videos and picture taking, I know we want to go with a Sony this time. I think we also need a gimble for stability when vlogging. Our channel is little subscriber wise, but I still want our videos to be great quality, and right now our Canon just isnt cutting it wide angle wise and it's pretty poor quality in the dark on rides. I aspire to be the pro that you are.....hee hee. Of course my mom thinks I do pretty good.......but she has to say that!
Jason Vong what lens would you recommend next I have the A6100 and it came with 16-50mm and E 55-210mm I’m new to photography but want another option for a lens?
Awesome video! I have a full frame camera that allows me to set it to APS-C crop mode. With a 24 mm lens I could potentially cover around a 35 mm viewpoint in crop mode as well - does anyone do this and if so, is it a bad idea? Thanks!
I still don't get it why a 16mm in Apsc is still called 16mm when it just shows the width of 24mm FF?! It's 24 mm in Apsc and keeps being it on FF. Yes, the hole is smaller, but it does never show a 16mm view...that makes my brain itching!!!
