As one who has both, I walked through ISC2 CC in a few days. My situation is different as I am still in school and already have Sec+, I also try to learn cybersecurity everyday across a ton of domains. For someone that is green, give CC a shot, very digestible compared to Sec+

Hi Sandra! I currently hold the CompTIA Security+ certification which, for me, expires in September 2025. As a direct result of this video, I went ahead and signed up to become an ISC2 Candidate back on 4/24/24, went through the self-paced training, and took the CC exam on 5/1/24 and passed! Paid the annual maintenance fee which is nominal compared to recertifying, as you've said. Now, I'm just waiting for my endorsement application to be reviewed and approved. Thanks for putting this information out there for all those who are looking to break into this field. Confidence booster for sure.

Do you think actually having the network + is valuable for a cyber security career path, or just having the knowledge is enough. I have the A+ now and thinking about learning all the network+ objective, taking a few practice tests to make sure i understand, and then move on to obtaining Security +. I guess in summary i’m wondering if it’s worth the exam cost and if employers will care about the Network+ cert after obtaining the Sec+. p.s. I’ve already been in help desk role for years.

Great topic, the market is so saturated w/ certs & info it can get confusing for new ppl trying to break into any IT field!
@WithSandra
@WithSandra 2 месяца назад
100%! My primary issue with the CC is that it was released early last year so it’s VERY new in the industry, I believe this is why theyre giving out 1 million free exam vouchers so enough new cyber talent has it on their resume for HR/recruiters to notice and eventually make the change to add it as a job qualification. ISC2 is a huge org that created the CISSP so they definitely have name recognition but this cert is just too much newer than the Sec+ for me to recommend it to ppl as a complete replacement. I think having both certs (since CC is free anyway) is the best way to go rn!
@Rico_Santana
@Rico_Santana 2 месяца назад
@@WithSandra Yes! I like that it is free so ppl can see if they even want to be in the field in the first place. Unlike the Sec + where it’s very expensive. I honestly think you should do as much free stuff as you can then if you like the field start looking into investing in the other certs or use your knowledge from the free stuff & get some interviews then if you happen to get on somewhere have them pay for your certs.

@WithSandra
@WithSandra 2 месяца назад
Yep!! I’m thinking it’ll likely stop being free this year since the free part was to give out 1 million free cert exam vouchers, they havent shared where exactly they are on filling up that number but I’d assume it’ll likely be ending this year

I would apply for contractor jobs for the DoD. Contract jobs are always going up online and I think its easier to get into if you include key words the DoD loves like NIST 800-53 and RMF. I would look up key words they are asking for in find a way to include them in your resume and it will get looked at by recruiters. Try to apply for ISSE roles and ISSO roles.

@WithSandra

I'd say no, the Google cyber cert provides foundational knowledge and more importantly, technical project experience and a discount to take the Security+. Alone, the Google cyber cert won't hold as much value as the Sec+, but it provides a good foundation on the info you'll need for entry-level cyber roles. Hope this helps clarify!

I really don't care for CompTIA that much. Seems they received the same free government pass ec council did. I have wondered if they would even exist today without the government requirements and handouts. Imo NO. I've taken both the CompTIA and isc2 training and my best comparison of the two is, isc2 is like a nice summer day walking along the water at the beach and CompTIA is like eating your lunch on skid row downtown los Angeles on a hot rainy day in a cardboard box.
