I hired a PT for gym training just before turning 50 two years ago. Got into the routine again, but when I ditched the regular gym training year ago and I focused kettlebells with the help of these videos from Gregory, I saw difference in my body and mind quite fast and after that I haven't done any regular training with gym equipment or weights - once per week KB class and then 2-3 times solo training. Life is good after 50s. 🙂

I have not been to a gym in over 20 years. I work out at home and am never going back.

Today I turn 40! My birthday is July 3, 1984 (or 3 July 1984 for people outside the USA) I have not set foot in the gym since my 20's. I guess now that I am officially "Over 40" I can start following all your video advice 🤣

Disclaimer: old man rant (59 years old).... incoming......take cover Gyms have turned into a sterile fashion parade, where people are more interested in what they wear or what's on their phone than actually doing proper and meaningful training for fitness, strength and mobility The good old style of hitting iron and/or training hard, using chalk, no aircon inside, or inclement weather outside are sadly hard to find I believe these new gyms are producing softer people as a result, with no real resilience to life, their external facade may look strong, but underneath it is brittle and weak New gyms seem like they focus more on machines, televisions and looks, and they push their "personal trainers" that seem to have got certified by a 4 week online course The best gyms have just the basic Oly bars and plates, some racks, benches and platforms, and all of the other free weights, and yes, including lots of bells As for cardio, when did they decide that treadmills and their like were a good idea, where did burpies, star jumps, skipping, bear crawls and their like go, I assume some people got triggered by people sweating and actually working hard around them Me, I train mostly at home now with a collection of bells and body weight equipment that I have acquired over the years, and at some group park sessions The biggest, baddest and fittest guys and girls I know train in dirty old box style gyms, train in their homes, or do park meets where everyone brings some kit where we work out some circuits/complexes and just kill it for as long as we have time for, whether it's for 15 minutes or 1 hour No one cares what you wear, no one really cares if it's raining, if it's hot or cold, they're there to work, to train, to be better, to be supportive to those who need it, to train for your now and future self, to train for fortitude and resilience

I started using Kettlebells during COVID. I got so into it that when we were allowed back I suddenly hated going to the gym. I think for most people they equate getting in better shape with going to the gym and that just isn't true, esp since most end up joining and then not going. I notice also using kettlebells, my body just feels better. I used to have hip problems and now (knock on wood), I don't. I'm 46 for reference. I don't feel creakiness at all. Last year I adjusted my diet and now look and feel stronger, better. Maybe I can't squat 600lbs anymore, but who cares if it means I don't have knee issues and can run around for awhile and not be dead tired

@markrobinson1291 do use the kettlebells as well? I do enjoy the gym sessions but when 3 and 4 young people are on the same equipment and taking videos of themselves it's beyond a joke. My time is precious lol

@BobParker-gm8jf yeap, I do mix of compounds and circuits with bells twice a week, and twice a week body weight, and twice a week mobility, I also average about 5 km a day walking clean skin, or with a 7kg back pack

What's with the constant focus on over 40?? Anyone can train to get stronger, 40 isn't some magical threshold. 🤔

@@lebe-stark Ah, I see. I thought people training with kettlebells was the target audience. 🤷‍♂️👍 Keep up the kettlebell work! Might come back in 10 years time then 😅😃
