To be fair, he is right. Not every game is for you. The same way Sekiro isnt for casual players, or people with low gaming skills, Yoshi’s crafted world is not for hardcore players that want a challenge. Not every piece of media, is made for everyone. Usually when art is made for as many people as possible, it fails to become great because it cant focus on one thing, because it’s trying to please everyone. Its trying to be as pleasing as possible. BTW the reason Sekiro cant have an easy mode, is because the entire point of the game, is its difficulty. If you have an easy mode, then its core game design completely falls apart. From Software Games want you to die. They want you to die and try again. And again. And again. Its learning from your mistakes, that is what makes their games what they are. If you add an easy mode that strips away that, then it means players wont be dying and having to learn from their mistakes. It means players wont have to take the time to learn the mechanics of the game, or literally fail. The way you do this, is make the game really hard, to the point that you cant progress. Now, I get that an easy mode is not being forced on anyone. So players that want to experience the game the way its supposed to be, can do that even with an easy mode available. However, from an artists perspective, they might not want to compromise their art. Its fine if people are asking for an easy mode. From a consumer perspective, it’s totally fine. But its really crappy when Games Journalists start brigading the dev, by universally writing articles at the same time, and almost accusing the Devs of something. Putting pressure on them, for not making the game they want. And now they are turning this into an “accessibility” issue. I just think an artist should be able to make the game they want. And if that means they dont want to have an easy mode, that is 100% up to them. The same could also be said, if they wanted to make an easy mode (even if it compromises the core gameplay design) - and do so to make more money (because it would appeal to more people), that is also totally fine. It’s up to the artist/publishers really. But i just dont like that people are getting angry, or almost demanding that an Easy Mode be made available.
