Hi guys! Today we are in Scotland in our Volkswagen crafter campervan. We are on a Roadtrip that today we travel to visit Galloway forest where we find an amazing wildcamping spot on our roadtrip to Scotland in our VW swamper campervan. We travel to an amazing place where we find that we need our off road tyres on our self build campervan build. Watch to find out more! The weather is very windy today. I've been running BF All Terrains on my T5 for about two years. They're capable on snow, light mud, gravel, and wet grass, etc but they are beyond useless on cold wet tarmac. But here's the thing … they're SO bad on icy tarmac that I don't even think they should be legal. And thats coming from somebody who keeps a very close eye on my pressures.

That place is a pure nature. I doubt I could drive up there with my lower suspension but you have made the right decision getting this chunky tyres. Very good video. K 🤙

I agree with the other comments - off road, yes. I don't go off road, but do use good quality four season tyres (Michelin cross climate 2). Like the vids btw.

My lovely home town. Loch Doon is always a favourite place of mines if your ever back that way you should walk down the ness glen walk.it’s right next to the dam it’s beautiful Pack the midge net tho.

Hello Ive spent 10 or more years exploring in my Defender 110 camper, started with COOPERS but soon switched to BF's along with 4x4 capability they were the perfect set of shoes for us in Iceland and Morocco. We have just moved on.. as our aging bodies demand and got a Adria for more comfort for us both. First is.. I have to remind myself what Im driving! and not get in too deep as its only 4x2 drive, and at present on road tyres Hopefully next month will have Bfs fitted. Seeing folk like you go forth in thes huge buses gives me heart ( still feels BIG at the moment LOL) Scotland has always been my "go to" place when on these shores, the camera loves it too. I can understand that you dont give out locations of where you go..otherwise evert t*at would be rolling up..Im the same when I find anywhere special too and the crowd from the various Land rover 4x4 sites often ask me when I offer photos...

forgot what I was going to ask! Do you know hasas there been any development in parking up overnight in forestry car parks? I know they were debating it in 2020, Ive not been up for a couple of yrs

They are great tyres if you are driving on wet soft mud a lot but any amount of road or wet/icy smooth surfaces then they are not the one . I do a lot of miles and also do a lot of farm tracks usually towing a 1.1T trailer and boat . On icy roads they are dangerous but reversing down a wet boat slipway i almost lost it , had to unhitch the boat drive to the top of the ramp and pull the trailer up on a long strap . I live in Scotland so do a lot of rough roads but a vans offroad ability will give out before you can get any benefits from the full off road tyre its more about smoothing the ride . I find an all weather tyre with a decent tyre profile is all thats needed and for most people dropping from a 20" to an 18" with a larger profile road tyre is perfect .

Right choice of tyres, do you have a air compreser on board, as tyre pressure is the key to getting better traction. 28 psi 4 mud. 12-15 psi 4 sand, 5 psi to get you out of shit.....come to Australia and see what we have to deal with 🙃🤘😎

We're you not tempted to swim in the waterfall? Off road tyres aren't worth it unless you have 4 wheel drive, for forest roads normal road tyres will do.

No it's too dangerous to do something like that. You dont need 4 wheel drive for off road tyres at all.

@@dubventures well having grown up on an island on the west coast of Scotland where houses and farms were down miles of dirt roads not many people had off road tyres and typically had standard cars with standard tyres, they seemed to manage just fine. Off road tyres weren't common then, neither were four wheel drives, usually the only ones were land rovers and not many folk had those. Just take it easy and drive sensibly, you'll be surprised where standard tyres will take you.

Had AT tyres on a rear wheel drive sprinter and I was able to drive out of boggy festival fields where every other camper had to be towed out by a tractor. Definitely makes sense for certain conditions. @@TheThedeathstar

@@dubventures No, I'm saying you live in a country where you can travel 90% of the roads on normal tyres. If you want to do the other 10% just buy an off-road vehicle.
