Thanks for the tips. For me, I deal with sensitive, acne-prone, and oily skin. At night, I apply litelextrra riceberry vitamin c face serum. It's great because it doesn't block my pores. I finished my first bottle of the serum a few weeks back. It brightened my face. The results I'm getting are excellent.
This riceberry face serum has the real goodness of Vitamin C. It quickly gets absorbed by the skin and is not at all greasy. My skin feels refreshed after applying this serum. I apply it twice a day for that additional radiance and freshness.
I have used the Timeless for a few years now. And, by the way both the Timeless and the Maylove have the correct Ph. I remember watching a video by Angie, Hot and Flashy. She took a deep dive into vitamin c serums. She had the Ph checked by a chemist. All of the ones that you were talking about came up with the proper Ph. Anyway, love the Timeless serum!
Thank you for adding this comment. ❤ I really want to try Timeless but I felt a bit conscious because she couldn't give the % of all the products, other than the Vit C. Much appreciated 😃 😊
I used the Timeless Vit C for a couple months, and liked it, but it was staining my fingers on my right hand. Took me a while to figure it out. The serum must have oxidized causing the stains, which were impossible to get off. Tried another bottle, and the same thing happened. Didn’t notice this was a problem in the reviews, so I must have some kind of reaction to it, or just unlucky and received two bottles that had gone bad.
I sent an email to timeless and their answer in return for the vitamin C 20 percent serum is the ph is 2.5 and there is 1% ferulic acid and vitamin E in their formula..
I’ve tried Timeless, Maelove, Paula’s Choice, Drunk Elephant, Dr. Brenner and the Skinceuticals CE Ferulic. I’ve come to the conclusion that 20% is too strong for my skin and the Vitamin E can cause me problems with acne. I’m currently using the Skinceuticals Serum 10 with 10% LAC and no Vitamin E. I absolutely love it and it’s around $70 so not too bad of a price. It doesn’t irritate me or cause breakouts and it lasts until I use it up if I store it in the refrigerator. Thought I’d mention it in case others may have the issues I do with certain ones.
I heard you. I got kind of rush burn type of reactions with timeless 20%. Thank you for sharing the more affordable skinseutical option. Never tried the regular one due to the price.
Wow you got money! I can't afford half of those fancy, expensive products...70 is not too bad of a price? Maybe in YOUR world. You can't speak for everyone on that. I think 70 for ONE product is absolutely crazy. IDK. I use the ordinary most of the time. When you buy those expensive products, you're most likely paying to have a fancy and pricey company or celebrity name etched across the bottle
I've been using Timeless for about 4 months and I love it! No way would I spend almost $200 when a $35 one works so well! I use the 20% one and have never been bothered by irritation. They frequently have 30-40% off sales so you can get a great deal and the results have been amazing!
It really works best the first few years, Vitamin C is amazing. It really brightened my skin, I don't see the same results after 7-8 years of use, unfortunately.
Where did you buy them that they had such great sales? I don’t think it’s available in the store where I live, but I can order it online. I would love to get the sale though. Thanks so much
I bought skinceuticals CE Ferulis and have been use 1 and a half month. All my sun damage spots were fading 70%. It makes my skin look brighter. I really love it.
Your skin looks exceptionally bright and flawless with your current skin routine. Being someone in my age group, skin coloring, and skin texture I will be trying it!
I follow many online dermatologists who I'm sure are very good but very silly and unprofessional in their demeanor and presentation. You are the exception! I truly appreciate your no-nonsense yet down to earth and friendly delivery, your professionalism, and the fact that unlike many others, you are not a show-off. I happily hit the subscribe button!
Drunken Elephant is great, but they had to come up with this new mixing system because I purchased it twice and both times had to return it because they had oxidized! Good job at bringing the product forward!
Some other CEF serums with LAA: Dr Brenner Vit C w/Ferulic, DRMTLGY Advanced C E Ferulic, Paula’s Choice C15 Booster w/C E Ferulic, Wishtrend w/Ferulic, Dearskin Vit C Dear Serum, Geek and Gorgeous C-Glow
Ya'll ... I use Skinceutical CE Ferulic and I LOVE it. It's one of the few things that has been effective on my crazy ass skin. It's basically a surprise nowadays when I get acne, and when I do, it heals really fast. Im scared to try other Vit C serums, but these 'dupes' are pretty tempting.
The first vitamin c I used was Maelove and I probably bought and used 4 bottles. I like it a lot but there’s no way it lasts 6 months. I changed to the time less and after 2 months it’s still clear. I think the bottle with the pump really helps.
I am using the skinceutical one now, but my other favorite is the Obagi 20%. vit c. I tried the Timeless one, but it just didn’t feel as effective. Spending the money is tough, but I have already lost part of my nose to an aggressive basal cell carcinoma, and my mom died from melanoma. I take my skin care very seriously.
How do you like the skinceutical vitamin C? Please be brutally honest comes I’m debating getting that one or a brand called Matter of fact and if you have heard of that brand please tell me about it
I agree honestly. I’ve tried Timeless and went back to Skinceuticals. I just purchased the Maelove one yesterday. Hoping i like it. It’s always tough spending $160 on a serum that last 4 months.
@@bnb0510 166 actually on the skinceuticals not 160 lol I would never spend that kind of money. I have a heavy hand when using products as in, I use too much. That bottle would last me a month or two. That's a large lump of cash to hand over. And you probably won't even see actual results until you buy another bottle. They say you have to use a product 3 to 4 months to see results so you're going to have to keep using it for a while
The best I have tried are the 15% vitamin c and 3% proteoglican glass vials by Martiderm. The ones that come in the green box. They're €35-40 here in Spain and they last two months if used every day. There's also a Polish brand called Skintra that makes a dupe of the Skinceuticals one. I forgot the name...Make It light or something similar. It's very affordable, €15 I think.
Angie on Hot and Flashy did a pH strip test on Timeless and it is pH balanced. Her dad is a chemist so sort of helped with her testing process of quite a few vitamin c serums. One thing I dislike about it is how watery it is.
I just ordered the Maelove the other day. I have used Timeless, Revision VitaminC , and Maelove once before. I think I'm ordering the Drunk elephant one next time I run out. I learned alot watching the video.........thanks so much!! $166 isn't too bad but I have ZO products I get from my Derm here that are pricey too. I use AltrenoTretinoin in.05 strength and the ZO growth factor at night . The ZO polishing scrub is amazing too once or twice a week. Thanks for helping us with all your valuable knowledge in a sea of skin care products!!! You are such a HELP!!!
I have used every one of these vitamin c serums-I started with the skinceuticals then got the old drunk elephant formulation that was already mixed, then timeless then Maelove… I do think that the skinceuticals had the more hotdog water smell and seemed to give my skin the best glow but I always get the maelove because it’s so much less $$ and gives a similar glow. Really enjoyed the old drunk elephant serum as well but I try to save where I can but still love to try more expensive options. Right now I am using the isClinical super serum advance plus and do like it but the jury is still out (still want to finish the bottle before making a decision). I definitely recommend the Maelove to anyone who doesn’t want to spend 166$ but DO use it everyday because it oxidizes fast. The Timeless definitely has a longer shelf life as far as oxidation but personally my skin preferred others.
THANK YOU so much for breaking this down! My head was spinning while trying to research and select a vitamin C so this was beyond helpful. I noticed that you said the cost of the Timeless serum is much less on Amazon- do you happen to know why? I'm always concerned about receiving counterfeit products.
I always think it's best to buy directly from Timeless so that you know where it's coming from and that it's fresh. They often have specials. Right now it's 40% off!
I just ordered from Amazon to save shipping cost. Mine was sent from recommerce, which I’ve always been happy with. The box I received was wrapped and In perfect condition. Looked completely legit. The expiration date however was the first week in February. I’m returning as I’d at least appreciate a full 3 months. Freshness matters to me. If you can purchase directly from Timeless through Amazon, that’s the way I’d go. I didn’t know that prior to this video.
I've never bought anything off the internet before at 34 years old... Reading Amazon reviews really scares me and keeps me from wanting to purchase off line due to the number of concerning reviews I have read about counterfeit products. Seems like it happens often, from what I've read. That's why I always try to read as many reviews as possible, but it still keeps me from wanting to take a chance on ordering anything.... Not sure how these people are allowed to get away with it. They should be banned,
@@michellekelly2937 that it's fresh?! What does that mean? Lmao. Just because something is coming from the exact company, doesn't mean it's completely brand new. How do you know that it's brand new? Companies/people in general only care about money. As long as you're spending with them, that's all that matters. Haha the time they don't even package things correctly and it gets broken.
Great informative video Dr!But what about other brand vitamin C you talked in other videos such as cerave vichy and neutrogena?are they’re as effective as these ?
A few weeks ago I got a facial. The esthetician and owner of the spa tried to sell me a bunch of Skinceutical products. I was already annoyed that I spent a lot of money on the facial. I decided to get the CE Ferulic. Went I got home I felt so guilty for spending a lot of money on the serum that I contacted the owner to see if I could return it. She wouldn't let me. Which made me more angry with myself for purchasing it in the first place. I started using the serum and I do love it but when I'm done using it I will definitely buy a more affordable vitamin C serum.
I've used the Timeless for years and have been happy with it. This was an excellent video so thank you! You are my new guru for skin care products. I am going to buy the Drunk Elephant asap.
I have tried both Timeless Vitamin C formulas and they make me break out and have congested skin. MaeLove and Mad Hippie gave me an amazing glow and texture improvement without irritation.
Cerave Vitamin C Serum, to which I add 2 drops of The Ordinary Ferulic Acid 3% & Resveratrol 3% and 1 drop of The Ordinary Pycnogenol 5%. Mix it all in my hand and the applied to my face. Regarding the Cerave metal tube, if you only squeeze it from the bottom, keep it upright, squeeze the air out, then quickly cap it, it lasts much longer and does not change color.
Timeless 20% Vit C with Ferulic Acid & Vitamin E used to come in a dark glass bottle with a regular label, like most products. Last year (based on purchasing it for about 2 years now) I found the packaging had been changed to a closed system pump container eliminating light and air exposure that causes more rapid oxidation of all Vit C products. It also eliminates contamination that can occur using a glass dropper. The container top snaps off for access to a sealed non-removable pump (like a hair mousse container). I keep mine in the fridge to keep it cool as heat accelerates oxidation as well (I live in FL). The only disadvantage (not really) is you can't see into the container. I think of this like I do a can of hairspray -- I just shake the container and have a pretty good idea about how much is left. It's made a huge difference in my skin and I can't imagine not having this in my routine. Thank you to Angie at Hot & Flashy!
I've kept my Timeless, Geek & Gorgeous and Maeloves C in the fridge and have never had a problem. These products are meant to be used up in a month or two.
i dont think they are supposed to be used in such a short time. my g&g c-glow only started to turn sliiightly yellowy on its fifth month. on their website it also says shelf life opened 3 months, but i use mine up within around 4 months and it looks completely fine still.
Excellent video! Thank you for comparing the top rated vitamin C serums. You clearly explained the advantages and possible disadvantages of each brand. I swear by SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic and have been using it for several years.
I used Maelov for a year and Timeless for a year. I saw no decrease in wrinkles, but age spots lightened slightly. Maelov went bad super quickly, becoming yellow. I saw no increase in collagen or youthfulness in my face.
I went thru 3 bottles of Maelove where the bottle went bad within 4 weeks, forcing me to purchase another before I actually needed it. Off to buy the 10% timeless! Thank you so much!!
I love your channel. Thank you for your expert advice, energy and effort. It has saved me heaps of time regarding research and also saves me from wasting money xx
Very interesting video with lots of great info, thank you. I have been using Cellx-C vitamin C serum since it was first released to the market in '91 or '92 (?) and I still love it. I'm interested to compare it with the SkinCeuticals that you just broke down so well for us. I'm not above changing but the Cellex-C that I buy is about $60 less than the SkinCeuticals. I keep mine in the dark medicine cabinet in its original packaging which helps it to block out the light. I am pleased with the results that I have gotten over the years. We have no control group and I have no idea what my skin would look like if I had not been using it for 30 years but at almost 72, I think my skin looks great. Thanks for another great and detailed video.
I rediscovered my Olay serums. Beautypedia gives them 5 stars - not sure if all of then...have to check, but I know the one I used this morning got 5 stars. Tone perfecting serum B and Vitamin C. Will see what happens 🙂
Great video! I'm nearly finished with Timeless, which -- besides the hot dog water smell -- was great. I've ordered the MaeLove one next (though it's currently in my fridge until I finish Timeless). I'm curious to try Drunk Elephant, as well! My first Vitamin C was from The Ordinary, which was too sticky/tacky for my taste. The one by L'Oreal was a good introductory product, too, but I was disappointed that it didn't include Ferulic Acid in the ingredients list.
Can u elaborate on which vit c product from The Ordinary you felt was too sticky/tacky? I also loathe that feeling and want to make sure it's not one of the ones I have on my list of interests.
Weird…my timeless have never had any smell?! I have always kept them in the fridge tho, to prevent losing their potency before I have time to finish the bottle lol
I’ve tried the Glow Maker but was not able to finish the bottle before it oxide. I did like it. I’m using Timeless now and loving it. I don’t see myself changing any time soon.
Amazing video. Information is easy to digest. Timeless has been recommended by all the derms/ skin professionals I follow as a budget friendly alternative to the gold standard. Will be purchasing when I'm able to:)
Such an excellent easily understandable explanation! I’m a C E Ferulic user but I think I’m going to try the Drunk Elephant Vitamin C next to see how the compare. I love the idea of combining the two yourself and minimal air exposure. 😀
Thank you for the in-depth and well-researched video - must have taken a while to find all this info! Thank you so much. Appreciate your channel. Take care.
Love this video!! Wondering where the Vichy Vitamin C ampoules fit in to this comparison? From what I can see, has a nice minimal ingredient list, but I can’t tell if “pure ascorbic acid” is the same as L-ascorbic acid??
Thank you so much! All the information of skincare products you share with us viewers, it has tremendously helped me find the right product for my skin type! You are awesome 👏🏻
Is vitamin c in powder form effective? I have been using true botanicals powdered vit c and adding it to my facial oil. I feel like I’ve seen a noticeable difference in my hyperpigmentated spots.
I've tried the C E Ferulic and the Paula's Choice booster and both made my face burn so much. I had to stop my normal routine and kept it simple for a week until my skin felt relieved. So more than 10% of ascorbic or L-ascorbic acid is a no no for me. But I don't have problems with THD ascorbic so the one by Sunday Riley is my go for 👍🏻
Great video! Thanks for the informative and detailed explanations. I’ve used all but the Skinceuticals and had good experience with all. I prefer the Timeless for cost & packaging. I’ll try the 20% version next.
Informative video- I really learned a lot! I don’t know if I’m going to switch to one of the (cheaper) dupes. Currently- and for about the last 10 months- I use Pura d’or 20% vitamin. C Serum at 11.24 (Amazon ) a 4 fl ox bottle. Now it’s 14.99. It does not mention l-ascorbic acid. It says it’s a proprietary blend of 20% vitamin C, ferulic acid.hyalluronic acid, and vitamin e. Plus jelly mushroom, argon oil,and Witch Hazel. From what you explained, this isn’t the best serum, but I will say that the age spots on my face and hands (I rub any excess into my hands) are completely gone! This video was so informative! Thank you! Now I’ll be more observant when choosing a vitamin C serum. !❤️
This is an incredible video... Thank you for helping me make this decision. I just ordered the Drunk Elephant serum, even though I have some qualms with their business practices. If I decide to try a different product after, I'll go with Maelove.
Yes, I agree with you 100%! I used Skinceutical before and other luxury brands vitamin C don’t last long due to dropper packaging. I find it has an odor after 1 month. I prefer Vitamin C in a cream form for longevity usage. Dr. Locke, can you do a comparison between Vichy Vitamin C ample vs L’Oréal Vitalift Serum?
I wonder if you split that bottle into 2 as soon as you open it to use if that would make it last longer? So if you bought a small, empty dropper bottle and decanted half of it and didn’t use it until the first half in the og bottle was done, it might extend the life before it goes rancid.
@@BubblyViolin11 yes, I have been saving all my serums bottles with airless pump and just transferred over immediately. I used Peter Roth & D Dennis Gross serums for so many years but same ounces for a quadruple the price right now, it’s so crazy! I find the best solution is to used drugstore vitamin with best best formulation and right ph for effectiveness and be patience because skincare for anti-aging or any maintenance takes time. Happy holidays!
I bought the Drunk Elephant one after I seen Skinceuticals sued them over formulation. It must’ve been too close to their formula to do that and 1/2 the price lol
SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic is my favourite Vitamin C serum. And I absolutely adore its scent! It reminds me of burned wood and nature :) But I cannot always justify the price, so it's constantly in rotation with the Timeless serum - I think it's a pretty good dupe. Now I'm curious to try Drunk Elephant too 😇
Drunk Elephant is kinda shady to me. They used to add turmeric to their formula, essentially discoloring it so you couldn't tell when it had oxidized. Idk, I just don't trust them.
Thank you so much. I always like how clearly you explain everything. You have previously talked about Cerave vitamin C serum... Do you still recommend it? If not, I will probably try the ones that you just listed...
I believe you have previously recommended the Neutrogena capsules. I would think that it’s the most stable since it isn’t mixed with water. Thank you for the detailed information, I appreciate it.
I really liked that one. I noticed that it helped with my PIH and evened out my skin tone. The only thing to note is that it’s a very high percentage at 20%, so it may be irritating for some.
@@Lander02 I’m afraid of that. The CeraVe broke me out. But all CeraVe products break me out. I do better with Cetaphil. I’ve tried other ones, Timeless and the Ordinary, but never noticed any benefits.
I was completely sold on the Skinceutical vit C- then you said “ hotdog water” smell … eek. I have a low tolerance for yuck smells. Thx for all the great info. I’m learning so much.
You are wonderful! Have you had a look at Mad Hippie? Just wondering your thoughts on it before I order again! Timeless Beauty will be next as it uses a pump rather than exposing the whole container each time it's opened. Thanks so much for all your very informative videos
Great channel great comments thank you ladies and gentlemen. I am looking for something also for mature skin I've noticed large pores what should I use to minimize to cleanse deep these pores they really annoy me. Thanks I have time for your feedback
I have been using the Drunk Elephant C-Firma for more than eight years and I can't begin to tell you how much this serum has improved my skin! In my 40's the effects of my youthful sun worshiping began showing on my face, particularly dark and noticeable on my cheekbones. After reading about C-Firma and Skincentuals, I went with Drunk Elephant just because of the packaging. By the time I finished the first bottle, the hyperpigmentation was almost completely gone! I was so happy with Drunk Elephant and the results I saw with C-Firma, I began adding other DE products. Adding the Framboos Glycolic Night Serum all but completely removed the hyperpigmentation that the C-Firma had already reversed. I believe had I used both from the beginning it would have happened more quickly. I know this is all about C Serums, so I won't go in depth about how switching to exclusively using multiple Drunk Elephant products has improved and maintained my skin other than to say, believe the hype about these products, it's all true. As for the C-Firma, the strength, the packaging, and the results are far superior to any other I have used. The fact that you mix it yourself and it is in an opaque bottle in a pump keeping air out, it is also more stable than any of the others. I mix my C-Firma and store it in the fridge. Because of this, my C-Firma serum retains the same light amber color from first pump to last pump and does not oxidize like the rest. When you pay this much for a C Serum, this is exactly what you want, results AND stability!
@TheBudgetDermatologist great info! I was wondering if you have ever looked at reviewed DermaDoctor's Kakadu C 20% Vitamin C Serum w/Ferulic Acid & Vitamin E?
I have used all of those options and am now trying the SkinCeuticals. It does smell like hotdog water!!!! But I am enjoying it. Thanks for this video!!
Have you tried Regimen Lab's Vitamin X? It has 15% L L-ascorbic acid, ferulic acid, vitamin E and other antioxidants. Comes in a pump bottle and my sensitive skin has not reacted to it. Would love for you to review!
@@isabeldelong9577I didn't see any spectacular changes but I did have a nice glow and it has alot antioxidants besides Vit C. I I got it at the time for less than $55. I'm trying the Timeless 10% L-ascorbic acid now and not seeing much of a change but I know it's good for my skin!
Same. Not sure about the effect it had on my skin individually (I started using tretinoin a couple weeks after I started it), but the results I have from the combo (am vit c and pm tret every other night) has been miraculous!
@@ttsk I'm not happy about this. I was planning to go buy some more CeraVe today actually. Now I'm having 2nd thoughts. I wish she would be consistent with these products she recommends.
Every time I go to my dermatologist, he decides to change my skin plan. I Wonder: 1 - Recent technology, new discovers, better results... right? OK. 2 - But don't the brands pay dermatologists for recommending their products? Mine always gives me free samples to try... 3 - What about RU-vid doctors? I love to hear what they have to say and teach us, but I always look for different opinions (and take time to do my research)... 🤔🙄😉
Thanks for this video!! Always wanted to know what Vitamin C you would recommend and am excited that you mentioned MaeLove, for anyone considering trying it, highly recommend it. It has evened out my complexion and I have noticeably brighter skin.
When you say that the vitamin C should be the first product you use in the morning, does that mean no cleanser in the morning? I usually cleanse, use niacinamide, moisturizer and sunscreen.
Maelove Glow Maker was the first serum I ever used that didn't break me out. The Timeless one clogged the pores on my forehead in the worst way, so I switched right back to the Maelove.
Plenty of people have tested the ph of these other products. It is easy to do. Middle school science students do it and the minimal supplies needed are available cheaply online.
