Should You Switch From The Sony FX3 To A FX6? 

I’ve had the fx6 for a two weeks now. From the moment I got to learn the functions I understood how much easier it is to get stuff done. I have a1 and while the resolution on the fx6 is not 8k i do not have to attach vnd for different lenses, k3m for shotgun mic and shutter angle is so convenient. I also love the af. I can’t compare it to other cameras but it gets the job done way faster. I also love the waveforms and timecode in /out where audio does not bleed into other track line on a1 with tentacle sync. I keep it pretty stripped down with basic bpu batteries, and just the mini-cmit. Glad I can have option of syncing audio to zoom f6 without top handle. The initial price is tough but this is giving me a whole new revenue stream and will be paying for itself very quickly.

I have the Fx6 now for over 2 years and you are definitely right. The first steps to understand it were really hard but now it’s done 👍🏻 I ordered yesterday the small ZVE1 for holidays and as b-cam to my Fx6 😅 best cinematic greetings from 🇩🇪

Man we got one for the same reasons! Well, we also wanted to develop a catalog of discipleship videos for our ministry that would be high quality. But my point is we only got it because we wanted it. But man it is a dream and the experience you shared was exactly as I’d describe mine! Good work sir!

I shoot with both, they're the perfect A/B Cam. Both are great, filmmakers should get whichever one suits their budget and what they're shooting.

Nice work man. I appreciate the insight you've shared here and the format you chose. While useful, an in depth "tech review" can often be difficult to relate to, feel overwhelming and ultimately end up convoluting the decision making process. I, like you in past, have been grappling with what upgrade to make from an a7iii and found this vid helpful.

i’m pretty late to this video but i’ve had an a7iii for a while but i’m upgrading this month. would u recommend a smaller jump to the fx3 or make the bigger jump to the fx6?

I love this video. & have watched it countless times. It resonates! Do I need an FX6? No. Have I bought one? Yes! Not everything has to be rational. Feel is good.

I agree on what you said about the fx3 and fx6 sensors. Yes They are definitely the same sensor BUT the fx6 image quality so much nicer and the highlight roll off is so pleasing.

That's sooo funny - as an A7siii and fx30 owner, about to go look at a second hand fx6 - that was the perfect video! I've been telling myself for years, I didn't need it, that it's the same as the A7s and I can screw on variable NDs :)

I totally relate, I started with a Nikon DSLR back in 2015, switch to sony A6600 in 2019 and bought the fx30 when it came out. Sold the fx30 and a6600 and bought the fx6. Will i regret it? Maybe but am I happy? Hell Yeah!

I just ordered a FX6 to use for my talking head channel. Does it still work with a BT remote to start/stop recording? I couldn't find info on that anywhere

After using my FX6 for a fair amount of time shooting a range of content I downgraded to the A7SIII and couldn't be happier. But I shoot a lot of hand held so it suits me better.

The FX6 looks like a great camera, but I'm a handheld user so the absence of IBIS made this a no-go for me, since there are other options out there with IBIS.

To say the image looks wayyyy better that the Fx3 I think is a bit of a reach man. Its the exact sensor in the a7siii fx3 and zve1 I think you have a little of the placebo effect because its new, so your brain is telling you it looks better but truthfully its not. Ive rented that camera a couple times to reassure me I wasn't missing anything and minus the variable ND the fx3 does exactly what that camera does and records better frame rates and you have 4k120 with audio. I think you should film some stuff on Both cameras and then just do a blind test with your creative friends and see if they see a difference and they won't, because you dont lol. It's the exact same image man. Its just rehoused and marked up for sony

My fx9 looks better than both my friends fx6 and my fx3 but i dont see any difference between the fx6 and fx3

Hi Russell. I own a FX6 and a FX9. When the FX3 came out, the price was too high compare to the FX6. Would have rather buy a second FX6 instead. But i bought the FX30 when it came out. Good stuff for the money, A little bit disappointed in low light situations. But it has the S-cinetone colour science. So it match with the FX6/FX9. I also own a Sony F5 not FS5) i bought in march 2013. Yes, i am older than you 🙂i love it. PL mount. A complete set of prime ZEISS CP2... but no S-Cintetone ! Impossible to match with the FX9/FX6 colour... So, i do not use it for the last 2 years. And now the Burano is coming out :-) Wow. Do i need it ? no ! i am not doing film or so. But i want it ! All the good stuff from the F5 with the good stuff from the FX series. So i already ordered one. Price is similar to the F5 in 2013. Yes, it will worth any pennies (is so we say in english?) Just need to wait beginning next year now 😞 Still so passionate. I am so lucky i always worked and could live with everything i am passionate. And since 1980, things have been better and better. Your FX6 is a GREAT little camera. You'll love it. Completely agree with all you said about handle, menues, etc Every camera, every monitors, etc are different. You just need to learn how it is working. That's it ! Today, many cameras are excellent. It's often difficult to compare them and see which image came from which camera !
