Should you train with muscle pain?
This is a common question that many people face, especially if you take your training seriously and want to get the most out of yourself.
Muscle soreness, particularly after a workout, is a familiar phenomenon for almost everyone who trains.
But when should you take this pain seriously, and when can you safely continue training?
The answer is complex and depends on many factors, including the type of pain, your physical condition, and your training goals.
One thing is certain: this is something you need to figure out for yourself, as only you know how you feel, and no one else can tell you for sure.
At most, they'll suggest you rest because there's no harm in that, so they tend to recommend the safest option possible.
In this video, I’ll share my own experiences and discuss, in general, when and how to continue training with muscle pain, and when it’s better to rest.
There are many causes of muscle pain, some of which are harmless, while others require more serious attention. Let’s look at the most common cases.

I'm 49 yo. At this age you always feel sore, so I really try doing some moves and my body tells me if it's OK to continue or not. Sometimes I don't feel sore but I lack the motivation or with low energy which usually means I'm still recovering so I don't workout. In many other cases, when I think I won't be able to workout because of soreness, once I start the soreness completely disappears and I might end up showing the best performance of the week. What 's most important imo is to distinguish between muscle soreness and connective tissue or joint damage .

Thanks Adam. Very well explained. I don't see a lot of videos about this important topic. I needed this. I hope I a lot more people find this video.

Thank you Adam! Been following you on my other account for years. I was so happy to see this! I have had a pinching sensation in my right front delt and effects me in 1 position...when my elbow is raised (military press style of workout) to the same level as my shoulder...and my wrist is forward on a 20 degree angle. I can do most things, but this pinching sensation has been there for a few years now. I don't expect medical advise...but have you ever known anyone to have this and heal it naturally over many years by building more strength? It seems to slowly be getting better.

My shoulder is always hurting. Sometimes it goes when I start training, at other times it stops me training 😭

timely information, adam. i have an injury to a joint in my thumb that makes many of my basic exercises difficult to do. i've been working around the injury by doing more leg work, walking and flexibility work. i do follow your recommendation about joint prearation exercises which i do before every workout. i also injured myself doing mechanic work, not from calisthenics; although many of the calisthenics exercises exacerbate the pain.

Hey Adam, do your prehab joint exercises also function well as rehab exercises coming back from an overuse injury?

Have had "tennis elbow" lateral epicondylitis for 4 months. 35% better thru rest... but need to get back to weight training. Ok, to do light weights? Any faster remedy thoughts?

I am going through the same thing. Do you have any advice?

@@jmab23 …..Have only done rest, no real work. RU-vid vids suggest certain exercises, but they’re boring and other “experts” argue value. I may just start dedicated 3-5 lb. dumbbell stretches/lifts.

Yes. You should train through a hernia too. Just go to the hospital afterward. But finish your workout first. 😆
