Hope you feel better! Missed having your stream at the gym this morning. I use base OBS with plugins and just recently changed from Streamlabs to StreamElements. Thanks for constantly putting out content for us!
Honestly, I have been wondering if I was missing out so thank you for the excellent video with the comparisons 😎 team obs with streamelements has been working really well for me and it was much easier to set up then I thought it would be. Highly recommend!
Right now I'm all set up on Streamlabs, but I might starts slowly moving over to OBS if it has that much customization. As a newer streamer, the customization was a little overwhelming at first. Seeing how it all goes together on SLOBS though has helped me understand what everything means a little better.
The end earned you all the respect in the world. Thank you for everything. My journey is about to begin, looking forward to studying more of your work.
no way, i actually got more confused by streamlabs obs so i switched to regular obs like immediately and i got everything figured out right after. lmao, maybe i just thought too much about what i was doing making it more difficult than it actually is.
I started out trying to use obs amd couldn't get it, switched to slobs and it was super simple, however now that I out grow slobs (the prime side) I switched to obs/obs studio and would not go back
Dude, your videos are superb. Ive pretty much gorged on them all as im starting out soon (research first). Keep the content going as its by far and way the clearest, non-judgemental, non patronising content and its very much appreciated.
Great video as always Eljay. I switched over to OBS a few months ago, and haven’t looked back. But this video opened my eyes to a lot of features SLOBS has that I didn’t know about. Being able to hide scenes for recording is actually super helpful! Super insightful video! Thanks for all the hard work you do for us
Another excellent video! I started using OBS... because I had no clue what I was doing! XD I was like hmm everyone says OBS (now I know they are referencing Streamlabs OBS and OBS) so I will just go with that one! This had a huge learning curve for a first time streamer! I appreciated all the tutorials I found all over youtube to help me learn!
Last year I bit the bullet and switched to OBS, took 6 hrs to setup all my stuff. I am so glad I did! My streams quit crashing and I have integrated Lioranboard as a viewer interactive stream deck! LOVE OBS! I do use Steam Elements for the web based overlays as I use custom overlays as browser sources.
I started using OBS and then switched to SLOBS. I like SLOBS better because it's so much easier to set everything up. And I don't use fancy animated overlays and alerts, so it works just fine for my custom, static ones. I may redownload OBS specifically to stream Overwatch with, as that's the only game I have issues with streaming on SLOBS, so I just wanna test and see if it runs better in OBS. Otherwise, my opinion is also to just use whichever one you're more comfortable with and that suits your needs. Who cares what everyone else is using, since everyone's needs are unique.
you really play the devils advocate here in such a great way. answering any question one side might have about the other and being honest with what pros and cons are. 10 points, liked, subscribed.
I've been needing this video so badly that my content actually came to a standstill while struggling with a decision plus fighting my video editing software.
Obs and slobs are actually two seperate entities and slobs just copied obs so I say support the og so any update that obs gets “first” slobs actually just copies
Thank you so much for putting up this video. You made me laugh and raised some amazing points and even saying don’t shame people who don’t use the “right” one was an extremely good point. Thanks for your amazing content and advice.
I started with Streamlabs, but switched to OBS Studio once I wanted to add some viewer triggerable effects, plus it has had better performance for me too, even with what I've added so far. But I'm using a computer I stole from a maccas drive thru... So you know, not as powerful as yours yet. You're right of course, just comes down to what someone needs, great video 👍
Using streamlabs and mixitup my viewers can teigger animations make my cameras swap and so. So i use a seperate program which obs also needs a plugin to do which is a progran in itself. There are work arounds for either platform
I say streamlabs . I feel it helps NEW streamers understand the layout abit more . Plus there SOOO many awesome video's out there showing you how to setup your stream , I have tried both . And personally streamlabs absolutely cracked it . Run as admin NEVER have an issue , I love it
I use OBS because StreamLabs didn't exist when I used to record videos for RU-vid before my son was born. So it was familiar to me, once I starting looking into StreamLabs OBS vs OBS, I decided to stick to OBS because I like playing around with a lot of the tech that Nutty has on display. But I have a small secret, after watching Nutty for 3 months, and you for 3 weeks, if you are a new streamer, your channel will help out more and your wrap-up advice is exactly why. Three weeks ago I was at 8 average viewers (30-day average) and making steady progress. I then started to watch your videos and started testing your advice (I was already doing some of it, but I focused more on the community aspect after watching your videos). I have left the techy stuff aside now, I have rocked up past 11 average viewers, with a lot of new regulars every day. Last night I averaged 19.2 viewers :o!!! Your advice is spot on, it doesn't matter if everyone is having fun and your stream is good quality.
Sounds like you’re working hard, Krovikan! Honestly I appreciate the kind words but you should just give yourself all the credit! My advice is only effective if people put the hard work in and have the right mindset. You’re just smashing it out of the park :)
I greatly appreciate your video man. I'm struggling horribly. I am not super tech-savvy, but I know how to make my computer work. What frustrates me is that despite knowing those things... despite knowing how to build a computer from the ground up (I know, hardware, not software) I struggle with this. I got used to OBS. But I still didn't know what the hell I was really doing. A friend put me on to StreamLabs and... honestly, it just muddied my waters. I like your ultimate conclusion: pick what works for you. That being said, despite my tech knowhow, I cannot for the life of me seem to get a decently working stream/recording. Maybe I am just too hard on myself, but I don't want my video to sound like it was made in a gymnasium. I've gotten a better mic, but now I am learning a new OS. Apparently one cannot simply "alt-tab" to desktop anymore and you need the magic code to do such a thing. Windows D or something like that. But I tell you, all I want man... is to be able to just do a thing, record it, and have it sound to a viewer as it sounded to me. Simple. I'll stick with OBS. Bells and whistles are fine, but I don't need them.
I tried Streamlabs and didn't like it, too much stuff, and it seemed like they were trying to get me to buy stuff at every other turn. So OBS it is. Now... What's this about installing Stream Elements into OBS? I have a separate app from SE for the alerts, I didn't know you could install it directly into OBS?? I need a video about this 😅 Keep up the great content!
Hey, I just want to say thank you - you're videos (I've not watched this one yet) have been giving me so much energy and guidance, from making smart goals (I didn't write, become affiliate XD) to leveling my audio (which i just did, it was magical and so easy) and generally improving my stream. I can't thank you enough.
Funny enough I see this the day after I decide to leave Streamlabs lol, it kept crashing for me at random times and gave me issues with certain steam games. It was super random and yesterday it didn't even want to launch. No problems since I switched over, so happy I made the switch!
I use Streamlabs prime because I am a total newb and if you have prime they have a 24/7 support chat messenger that’s basically an instant response and they are so helpful and never make me feel dumb. It’s worth the few bucks a month to have the help. They save my butt all the time.
Okay I'm only 20 seconds into this video but I'm going to go ahead and predicted that the "truth" of the matter is that use whatever you feel like. We shall see in the next 13 minutes.
@@magnificentreality100 Ads are at 8 minutes, and they're forced turn on these days :) I don't care about ads, I just write what I think is important and do my best.
All I gotta say is, I have to thank u so darn much. I've started around end of March with streaming when I got My new PC and did it for a couple days, was already ready for affiliate, had to take a break from streaming tho bcs I had to move BUT I got now affiliate activated since 1 week and I'm close to my first check All I've learned about the programs, settings, how to communicate and all that from you and I have to thank you so much, it changed my life litteraly!
I started with OBS studio because it supported programmes like Lioranboard and the plug ins like the move transition plug in that is so powerful. Plus people like Andi Lippi and Nutty come up with some amazing effects that just can't be done inside SLOBS.
i actually gave up on stream labs bc it looked to complicated so i downloaded obs studio and it made sense to me instantly lol. Idk i guess the interface just made more sense to me.
Interesting, thanks for this review! Sometimes even if we don't notice % usage in games, apps it still influences on fps, smoothness of them with a lighter and better software.
I started with OBS and it worked great for me, until about 2 or 3 months into my streaming career. I changed absolutely nothing and one day it was like someone hit a reset button on my OBS, all of my settings, filters, etc were set to default my scenes were still there, but I had to redo all filters on my Mic, DSLR, audio, everything. And it happened a few times, so i uninstalled/reinstalled. That kind of worked, I still had a few minor things reset between each stream, but I got sick of having to rebuild OBS over amd over, so I got Streamlabs OBS, I have been using Streamlabs for about a year and a half with no problems, aside from a random streamlabs crash once in a blue moon. But It is better to hit an X and start stream button once in a while, than to put all of your settings and filters the way you had them from one stream to the next.
I already been using obs studio but have streamlabs for the sake of some of the features I can just import over. But you said it best it doesn't matter it just comes down to preference.
I’m interested in seeing how much better OBS could work for me. I put the blame on my PC for not being able to handle any sort of animation, but now I’m curious if OBS could allow me a little bit more wiggle room. I also have such a hard time with my alerts in SLOBS, I install and they don’t show up, or the sound doesn’t appear in my stream. I’m glad you touched on that point, because the alert system with SLOBS has me so confused lol I’m going to try it out this week and see if it does work out any better for me. As always, love your videos! Thanks again for great content!
I've used both back and forth for years, but I do recommend the original OBS Studio since it is much less demanding on your CPU, and they've done some great updates recently. Even though I have a good setup with a 2080Ti, it was a heck of a diffence when I switched back to OBS Studio, especially when playing fps games. Sure, you need to put in some more work customizing your stream compared to using Streamlabs OBS, but at the end of the day it's worth it. OBS Live is ok, it's in the middle between OBS Studio and Streamlabs OBS, when it comes to CPU usage.
I am using SLOBS as i have not been streaming long. I do like the ease of the scenes, etc and really do not want to be bothered with configuring. Albeit, I really do not use any advanced features so I will give OBS a try and see if my FPS goes up. I am on a lower end GTX 1060 card so any fps can help... will report back if I see any change.
The gtx1060 is a gpu, and SLOBS and OBS are cpu intensive. While you can encode with your gpu, you have to manually set that. It’s set to cpu so the main thing to look at is your cpu for this program.
I found when I used streamlabs it sacrificed my game quality and I started lagging on game, and with OBS It sacrificed my stream quality which I preferred.
That sounds like potentially the default settings or settings you used were different in each, or potentially you have your Admin Priorities set up different from installation. Either way, whatever works best for you is best!
I was stucked with Streamlabs for years, then I found out there are all the plugins from Streamlabs and even more available for OBS Studio as well so I switched. Also the performance is much better with OBS Studio as it consumes less PC power thanks what my games runs smoother and I experience much less FPS drops than with Streamlabs.
I have used both OBS and Streamlabs OBS and even with the bare minimum game capture on both with identical settings I saw a SIGNIFICANT difference. Streamlabs struggled immensely and impacted game performance and OBS did not. Perhaps they have changed it over time but even at the time it seemed like an issue only *some* people dealt with.
They have updated performance a lot over the years, but also it’s much more obvious on lower end systems which isn’t good. As I said, I just couldn’t replicate any increases on mine with my tools.
@@erisofterra8986 I know because I love OBS. When I had a macbook it worked with no issues. Now that I have a PC it crashes, maybe I should try to update it.
I'm really trying to use streamlab obs but then it doesn't work on my laptop 😕 but I use obs only with only 8gb ram hopefully I can be a successful streamer in the near future
I can only stream with OBS, because when I use streamlabs it skips so many frames and my audio cuts out. I used the exact same settings, filters and overlays. So for me personally OBS works generally better for streaming and recording
I'm having an issue with Streamlabs cutting off my capture card after about an hour and 45 minutes. I can't find a fix that's doesn't involve closing streamlabs and reopening it which stops my stream. Hoping that switching to OBS will fix my issues
I almost made the switch back to SLOBS but honestly very comfortable with OBS now so it's great to hear that as long as it works it doesn't *bleep*ing matters. thanks as always Eljay!
Honestly it didn’t age that badly, the end is use whatever you want, just focus on making good content. And that I moved to OBS and StreamElements, granted a few more reasons to switch have come out hahaha but the decisions are pretty much on point.
@@MisterK-YT You'll find hundreds of videos about the "Streamlabs drama" with a quick google. It just isn't the type of content I make here so you won't find it on this channel. :)
I made the switch today from slobs to obs and it makes my stream run at a much better quality!! Slobs made jt so slow and lag a lot and OBS has removed that for me! And the CPU usage has halved as well So I recommend OBS for that reason
That downside you mentioned about OBS at 09:00 minutes. There is an easy fix. I use OBS, and I also use one of the animated scene sets from your server. Every animated asset is put into OBS as a media source. I used the .mp4 file for said media source. For animated background, I made sure to click the "loop" option in the settings for the media source. And that was about it. Works perfectly. Hope that helps! I also used this method to add music to my stream for a while. I had an mp4 video that had a bunch of copyright free songs recorded, chucked that in as a media source, and it played uninterrupted across every scene I put it in. I couldn't hear the music on my end, but I had a special situation where I was going to have to deafen my sound capture part way through my stream to get something switched over mid-stream. It also saved on CPU usage, so I used it for a while until I figured out how to play the music I wanted through my speakers without killing my computer's resources.
You’ll want to use webms and loops, it’s what I do already  The downside of any animation is it just tends to be more intensive on your resources, for both OBS and SLOBs. I was referencing just how I use a lot of them so I was surprised not to have any lag inside SLOBs compared fo OBS. I hope that makes more sense. :)
As a streamer with a lower end pc and switched to OBS recently, I can confirm that OBS is much less resource intensive and smooth. I personally like OBS much more but it really does come down to what a person wants
I have never used Streamlabs OBS. It seems like everyone has problems with it, whereas I've not heard many complaints about OBS except user error. AND NOW OBS HAS AN UNDO BUTTON! IT'S UNSTOPPABLE!
@@StreamScheme Omg I have tried to work that out on obs for such a long time. In the end just stuck with streamlabs coz I could group my overlays for each "task"
I use OBS Studio with OBS Live plugins. I used SLOBS for a short time, but it straight up stopped working on my computer Also, I use Streamelements now for my alerts and overlays and all of that
