I know Nintendo consoles got it way before anyone else, but I wish they had something like this in the game. Maybe like a Bowser fight or a battle against Link.
Joshua Hernandez if memory serves i believe they said something about the nintendo versions of the game getting a smash bros style battle mode where you use shovel knight and all the bossses.
Everyone's saying "Oh I have PS4 but you have the Xbox version you're so lucky" or " Oh I have the Xbox version but you have the PS4 version so you get way more armor" but I have the 3ds version...
Everything about this was amazing. True to the source material, sweet new power up with the armor, music right out of the NES classic, and to top it all off, getting to join the Battletoads for a SWEET pose. This just feels like a "By the gamers, for the gamers" moment.
U think Rare hadnothing to do with this part of the game that they would put their ip. to other devs and would not check it out and help them with some ideas
Sam Fedor That and Kratos is a total unlikable tool and is worse than even the worst protagonists in all of gaming history. Even the douche-bags Kane and Lynch.
SuperPiposaru Considering that the Wii U and 3DS versions came out a lot earlier than the other console versions did, I doubt it'll happen. I guess this is their way of rewarding PS4/Xbox owners for their patience. Still, if by some chance Nintendo DO decide to make an exclusive boss fight for their Wii U/3DS versions, I'm up for it. Personally, I'd like to see either Link, Samus, Kirby or even Yoshi have their own boss battles.
The amiibo also has Custom Knight. Custom Knight is, well, a custom Shovel Knight! You have an experience system with your gold, the more gold you collect, the more exp you get. Whenever you level up, you unlock 1 extra thing. It could be a cosmetic upgrade, a relic, or an ability (like the dash from the frog gear, a double jump, the default bombs from Plague of Shadows, and many more!). Also, there are new relics in Custom Knight, well some are new, and some are variants of the relics you get in the main game. (There are three different daggers)
Joshua Hernandez meh, if you are going to defeat the battletoads in a retro nostalgia trip it should be a little more impossible, battletoads is as hard if not harder than shovel knight and eventually they win, they should make the player beg for mercy before they go down.
I have no attachment to battle toads either, but this secret has way more to it than the kratos fight. I mean, all you so is fight kratos and get a new armor, in this secret you get that and then a whole lot more.
Why? evrything because copyright, they cannot use battletoads because they from rare and rare was bought by microsoft, they cannot use kratos on xbox since sony is xbox's competitor and kratos was by sony, and the creators wanted to put these characters so they pt them in different versions.
i have to disagree with that.... kratos battle was fine....but i feel that it could be better.... but the battletoads one...it was fan service for battletoads fans! imagine someome who had no idea found this ?
Wunder Wimp i was so upset when i heard YC Games originally wanted to use Sir Daniel for the PS4 version. I would have totally preferred him over Kratos.
I enjoy the boss battle against Kratos in the PlayStation versions but this boss battle is way better in terms of expansion and having the first two of the boss battle be based on well-known (and infamous) levels of Battletoads was absolutely brilliant. Lastly, Shovel Knight posing with the Battletoads (and Baz) is so AWESOME!
Have to admit... the Xbox One version takes it as far as bonus content goes. The Nintendo consoles hand some okay features, like using the touch screen and the added convenience of portability, but nothing much beyond that. The PlayStation versions' boss fight against Kratos was fun (unless you're playing it on New Game Plus, in which case it is nearly impossible), but it's just the one fight, after which Kratos is gone for good unless you wanna play through the whole first half of the game again. The Xbox One, however, gave us a whole stage that is faithfully based on the original Battletoads NES game (there's even that kickass beat that plays when you pause the game), as well as a final boss fight against all the Toads. You can also replay the speeder part of the stage for just 200g. Granted, the Toad Gear Armor you receive isn't as versatile or fun to use as the Chaos Armor you get after beating Kratos, but the overall challenge and presentation of the Battletoad stage more that tips the scale in Xbox's favor.
Oh, wow... it sucks that this has to be an exclusive XBox level. It's a shame, really, since Microsoft couldn't possibly give any less of a shit about Rare's IPs, such as Battletoads. This just proves that even indie developers are more capable of developing better Rare titles than Rare currently is capable of. Especially with Microsoft's aforementioned not giving a shit.
Its a shame for you because you can't play it. I guess you haven't heard about the new battletoads rumors either or that Killer Instinct, a rare ip, is straight up one the best fighting games out right now or even the mini conker game released in project spark is really fun but lets hate because we're idiots :)
Jason Orozco Fun fact: Killer Instinct wasn't even developed by Rare. The Rare that we once knew is dead, thanks to Microsoft. They're so dead that they actually went out of their way to make sure Rare didn't develop the new Killer Instinct. The rumors about a new potential Battletoads are just that... rumors. They haven't been confirmed or denied, yet, so until something surfaces about it, I'd take it with a grain of salt. Rare most likely wouldn't develop that, either, unless they want it to end up like that shitty Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts game. And as for the Conker game in Project Spark... yeah... I doubt it's any good. From the trailers I've seen, it looks like a watered down version of the old Conker's Bad Fur Day with somehow shittier graphics despite CBFD being released in 2001 while this thing was released in 2015. But no, I'm not hating on this because I'm an idiot. I am, in no way, an idiot. I'm not even hating on this game. I'm just hating on the fact that Rare is complete shit, now, all because Microsoft. Not to mention, most of the old, GOOD staff of Rare left the company to go to better companies after they saw how bad the company was becoming. You should have heard what Grant Kirkhope, the old composer for Rare, has to say about the new Microsoft owned Rare. Spoiler alert: It isn't positive.
The Neverending Twilight lol you talk to me like I don't know these things. Did I say rare developed KI? Nope but they did help develop it. Tons of names in the credits, the original Killer Instinct announcer, who was still at rare when they were makin ki2013 even redid his lines and added new ones for the game. I find it extremely funny you think microsoft had anything to do with the already failing rare when they bought them. Rare was a shell of its former self before the buy out even happened, not cause THE SUPER EVIL MEGA CORPORATION, MICROSOFT, bought them. Grants views on rare are shared by tons of other people including myself. If you've been paying attention you'd know rare has been pretty much restructured and new games (not kinect) are being developed. So you're upset at old news kid, look to the future and be positive.
Jason Orozco I grew up at a time when Rare was still good. Back when they were with Nintendo. Up until the N64, they were a fantastic company... not a bad game came out of them. Then the buy out happened and that all went down the shitter. They had average to okay games every now and then, like Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Kameo. But they also had that remake of Conker's Bad Fur Day, then there was Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. Both were terrible, one being a terrible remake and the other being a terrible sequel. Then they went on to make Kinect game after shitty Kinect game... there's apparently some new Banjo-Kazooie game coming out that uses the Kinect, which is NOT okay. That is disgusting. Why is it that Rare became shit only after being bought out by Microsoft? I own a 360 (don't have an XBone, yet, nor do I really plan on getting one) so I'm not bitter just to be bitter. I'm not hating because Microsoft took Rare from Nintendo, despite buying and owning almost all Nintendo consoles (except for the Virtual Boy. I never want to own that). And just because the whole... Rare turning to shit news is rather old, it doesn't lessen the sting any more when we see amazing stuff like this that just reminds us that Rare used to be pretty good. It reopens old wounds and proceeds to pour salt into those wounds. And I'm sure it hits guys like me, who are in their 20s, harder than anyone who grew up with the Rare that we know today. We remember Rare for their Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct Classic, Golden Eye 007, and Conker's Bad Fur Day. We don't want to remember them as they are now, but we just seem to always be reminded that they are as they are.
This is the best tribute ever! Yacht Club Games knows how to do things so amazingly! I really would like to have this version but too bad I will never buy an Xbone from Microshaft. DAMN MS for having RARE properties hostage :/
This is nostalgia overload. Guess I'll be buying this game again... aaaaaand finally buying an Xbox One while I'm at it. At least now I can play Dead Rising as well.
Uzoma Iwuagwu I know. Cause even then, Battletoads were Totally Tubular (heh heh, 80s pun)! I would love to see another Battletoads game though since its been long due. Besides, it's time to kick the Dark Queen's leathery behind again. >:D
Nintendo should of gotten either Mario, Captain Falcon, Star Fox or Link for an exclusive and Steam (PC) should got Galados *yeah I'm not a huge PC gamer...just yet but don't know anyone from Valve but Galados from Portal even I don't even if that's spelled right* or Coach from Left 4 Dead *I really don't know*
Glados on the pc version?....hmm.....that would be interesting...with P-body and atlas as their companion..... and on top of that when you beat glados she just give you some sort of HEV suit!
This makes me green with envy (no pun intented), Xbox users got really lucky with this one. Real indie developers being fans as us knew exactly what us players wanted for the toads. Yacht Club are my new favorite developers for all the right reasons.
SDMF20 They're apparently working on one with Twisted Pixel working on it. Hopefully coming out later this year. I'm sure they'll announce something at E3 :)
First time I heard the music at 3:38 was in the AVGN's 32X episode. Didn't know it (and a few other tracks used in the same episode) originated from Battletoads! Also...OH GOD ANOTHER RARE PUN.
I got the 3Ds version of shovel night cuz I thought it had battlegoads in it to blah in the turbo tunnel that is my favoraite part of the game, but it doesn’t have it,although Shovel Night Amazing !thanks to this vid,I love shovel night
Gets flashbacks to the classic days of Nintendo spending hours on the speed cart through the tunnel. Such anger...such frustration..i never made it past that part!!!
My GOD, this was amazing! I almost wish I bought this for my XB1 instead of my vita/PS4... Almost. xD I have yet to see Kratos though. Hopefully it's just as cool, but I doubt it.
PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one that wants to see a TF2 boss battle similar to the battle royale with the Order of No Quarter, but with the mercs for the Steam version?
Would've been cool if you fought chief and he would come in and land in a drop pod and say something like "cortana this isn't sanghelios" then some dialog between shovel and chief would happen then they would fight
