This is a video of me testing the wiring on my Pan-Shovel.
See a walkaround video of it here - • Harley Davidson Shovel...
First I prime the Super E with a few twists of a throttle and then 2 kicks. Then I turn the choke on and the ignition on (hear the switch click) and then try to fire it. It didn't fire so I then turned the ignition off, cleared the engine (about 6 kicks) before trying again.

Hands down the best looking motor Harley ever made .the early Shovel . Now or then. Newer motors are made to look ( pretty ) no soul , no hart...no real compression .

@@edmonddupris8422 They are nice , my cuz in frorida has one. little out of my price range . Is your's a 61 cubic inch or a 74 ? they made both . I have always heard they have a little problem with getting oil to the top-end . The most noise you can get out of a old V-twin is said to be from a 70's shovel. I do like all the older machine, newer ones do nothing for me. j. d.

All the generator bottom end motors looked great knuckle pan and shovel. The cone just lost something in the look for functionality.

No, this is the first time I had fired the bike up in its current build. When it is set up properly (as it is now) it should be one or two kicks.

Hi, thank you, it's actually a 1953 Panhead bottom end with later shovel heads
@swede910
@swede910 3 года назад
@@holmevalleycustoms .... and what exactly is a Pan bottom? 🤓
@holmevalleycustoms
@holmevalleycustoms 3 года назад
@@swede910 So the bottom half of the engine - as in the crank cases - are from a 1953 panhead. Obviously the heads on this engine are later shovelheads.
@swede910
@swede910 3 года назад
@@holmevalleycustoms Yeah, but please ...... it it has no PAN heads so it has nothing to do with a panhead simply. I see shovelheads in a pre-66 frame on a generator bottom that used to have panheads. Sorry, just can not stand all this misconception out there.
@thakery5720
@thakery5720 3 года назад
@@swede910 When Shovelhead engines first started they had a similar bottom end (crankshaft and cases) to Panhead engines, but were made after production of Panhead engines ceased. After 1969 Shovelheads had a redesigned bottom end that looked different - people then fitted the top ends (cylinders and heads) from a Shovelhead engine onto a Panhead lower end when they were rebuilding a Panhead engine so as to improve the power characteristics and to be able to fit aftermarket cam shafts etc to get more power still as more powerful cams for Pannheads were not available due to the fact that Panhead top ends were not as 'tunable' as Shovelhead top ends. When S&S Cycle started to build there own replica engines, they started with a Shovelhead replica and 'reverse-engineered' the cylinder heads so they looked like Panheads but are in fact Shovel-type heads so as to make more power than the low compression Panhead engine that they look like - people love the engine to look like a Panhead but pinheads cannot keep up with modern-day traffic or reliability. A similar thing was done with early Evo motor top ends fitted to Shovel lower ends, and indeed some old 45 inch flatheads got top ends from English Matchless single cylinders bikes to give them more power they were known as Magnums. Back in the days of Evo engines the aftermarket was producing crankcases for Evos with four camshafts like a Sportster, and another company made four valve cylinder heads using valves that were Volkswagen Beetle parts. Sportster engines were originally 'K' models that were 45 inch side valve, four cam engines where the crank and transmission case were cast as one 'unit', but had overhead valve cylinder heads fitted to them. Those heads were later 're-engineered' and made of aluminium, then fitted to Panheads to create the Shovel head engine. There, has that explained it clearly enough for you or are you just an argumentative ignoramus ?
