outsidexbox I’d fill a vault with 1000 Chinese Americans and tell them that, due to a logistical mix up, 100 of the Vault’s inhabitants (10%) are actually communist spies who were supposed to be sent to an underground prison complex, and to make matters worse the paperwork was lost in the scramble to the vault so now the overseer and his staff have no idea who the spies are. In truth, there would be only one spy (that the US Government knows of) in the entire sample and the staff know exactly who it is. The vault would test the compounding effect of paranoia in a group that feels a greater need to prove themselves loyal.
Give one random person the choice to kill another dweller or themself every consecutive day and see how long they last before being overcome with guilt and ending their own life

Does it concern anyone that, when asked to create an insane torture vault, Jane spends nearly her entire time drawing a logo and chatting, and yet has an extremely detailed, Saw-like, chamber of horrors all planned out?
She is a scary scary mastermind... No need for concern, just make sure you don't look directly into her eyes if you happen to meet her. Also, don't drink or eat anything she offers you... Especially if she's chipper and says she has a proposition for you.

I'm not gonna lie, I've seen every episode of both shows, a lot of them multiple times, and reading this is the first time that I realized there's a cover on the couch, rather than two different colored couches. My life is a lie.
I've got an idea for a vault. Vault 55, its divided into two equal halves. One half has lots of people in without a lot of room and the other half has just one person in it and the to halves are visible to each other. It's all about human behavior, what would the one guy do? Would they gloat, would they try and allow the others in? and what would the group do? would they ask to be let in? would they force their way in? or would they stay in their area? Call me Vault-Tec
Isn't thay just what happen in real life though? The 1% controll all the resources while the 99% have to share what left. My prediction is that if the one guy an entrepreneur he would immediately give out the best rooms to gain influence, then sell/rent the rest for profit.
...Although objectively it's not a very good design. For one, Jane plan to experiment on everyone which mean there no control group to compare the results (for example how we gonna know if the result from Jane's super radiation is not just from regular radiation?). For another, the hypothesis need to be falisable so what the point of putting people through mesh screne if you already know the result (that they gonna be cut into cube)?
I figure that Jane just uses this as as a decoy so we don't get curious about her actual vaults. Don't worry, Jane, I'm sure you and Enforcer Luke know what's best
So, Jane's vault offers you a choice of:rooms: a mystery experiment, choosing who to electrocute, super-radiation, being pushed through a fine mesh, hands for feet/feet for hands, being shrunk or giant-sized, being forced to share a dorm room with 6000 people, or a break room with perfectly normal coffee. I think I'll take the coffee. Wait, she didn't say if there was any creamer! DAMN YOU OVERSEER DOUGLAS!
Dave Brohman if I was developing a sandbox online game as a developer I wouldn't want griefers in my game. Why? They run off casuals at one point sea of thieves was unplayable for me so I didn't play it for months. Its better now but not by much i play it a few times a month now. When you spawn into the lobby and some bag of dicks has already sunk your ship. No treasure no quests here comes Mr. galleon sinking your freshly spawned ship. When they see you again guess what happens? I'll wait for your answer. There is playing the game and there is being a fucking ass hole. If I'm going to port to sell my treasure I'm fair game. It's how you play the game I've stolen people's treasure it was after they attacked me first. However I did steal their stuff. When I just walk out of the tavern after loading in that's not playing the game. IMO griefers need to get some pussy and a life maybe then their kdr won't be as important as it is to them.
Dayna Potato I think it can be temporary like a purgatory where you're between heaven (normal servers, hopefully) and hell (ban) awaiting God's (Todd Howard's) judgement although I think it'd best if there was a reputation scale and you'd be paired with players with similar reputation so it's like the circles of hell

I love the inclusive atmosphere in vault 71...everyone is welcome! and they are welcome to participate in any one of the most important fields of science ... you know... the big questions of science ... fine mesh... super radiation... wait, what were we trying to do again?
how about a vault where everything is absolutely normal but the residents are told that they are a part of a vault experiment and given vague details to test how paranoia spreads in a sealed environment (i know about the red v blue vault but that was different)
Tell you what would actually deter griefing. Give them the red star, lock them in place, make their inventory completely lootable, then log the player out until their character is killed and when they come back to the game display a replay of their character being killed and a list of all the items that they lost due to being looted.
John Harrison I said it would deter people, not stop it completely. Only the most pathetic players would go to all the effort to keep making characters in order to just grief. The only ultimate solution is to make the game single player.
Did none of the devs take the two seconds to realize that griefers will take the bounty as a mark of pride and compete to see who can get the highest number?
I just gave Jane a yes for for her getting a point without even watching how she did because, she is a master of science and torture and also has a lot of exeperience from testing it out on the other Oxbox and Oxtra members.(That and also I am afraid of getting science and sacrificed to Cthulhu and other dark eldritch creatures, Cheers! Please don't science and sacrifice me, I volunteer Andy.)
The anti-griefing system actually sounds like it will encourage the worst form of griefing. Griefers will now likely keep trying to jump in front of another players attacks to make them the aggressor, it's happened in other online games.
Reading the video title and "Jane's Vault design challenge" I got a shudder down my spine. Watching and seeing how slowly and casually she sketched her own vault, this has been a long term plan and the subtle mind control is working on the rest of the crew. We're all doomed.....I meant o hail great Overlord Jane...please don't pick me for your vault.

I would have a vault where it's just a massive version of the quietest room on earth, it's -9 hertz, quiet enough to hear the blood pumping through your veins, and you would start to lose sanity after about an hour of not talking.
I was just thinking the other day how sad I was that you rarely say beta anymore. It made my heart beta little faster to hear it like 20 times in this!!!
They said "you can save your whole base as a blueprint so you can rebuild it". Two issues: 1. You still need to gather all the stuff to rebuild it 2. You ever try placing ONE structure in Fallout 4 from a blueprint? Structure placement errors and clipping issues all over.
There should be countdown clocks in the vault and at various doors with different times. When they get to zero sometimes stuff happens (good things, bad things, bland thing, new outfits, weapon mods), sometimes the timer just starts over. For payments the residents can get access to special boxes in certain areas (and broadcast their arrival) that everyone can then fight over.

Hey Jane! There’s possible zoning availability for Vault 71 near the town of Douglas in Douglas county, Washington state. Lots of large open wasteland like fields, desert like climate, and low traffic for those hard to reach out-of-the-way vaults where new types of radiation can be safely utilized with ease - For Science!
It would actually be an amazing psychological experiment to make the Mystery Room actually just let them live the rest of the time in the vault like a normal person. The results would be really interesting to see how many people would intentionally participate in a painful or physically altering experiment versus participating in the unknown.
My Vault would be an experiment in addiction: Vault 99- first group has to give up tobacco & alcohol second group- gives up illegal drugs third group- gives up sex There will be 2 control groups- the first has to give up all 3 while the other indulges in all 3. The challenge is to give up these indulgences for at least a year. Punishment for a relapse is that you get moved to one of the other groups while- to keep things balanced- someone from the group that's allowed to do all thing has to move into the group that can't do anything.
I've got an idea for a vault. First everyone in the vault has no connection to anyone else. Then you engineer crises for the vault dwellers to solve, giving the inhabitants a strong bond. The final stage will be challenging their own selfish desires against the good of the entire group; this first half of this is important to ensure the strongest response from the subjects.
See, this is why the OxBox team are one of the best. They are so committed to generating good content they have Jane 'design a vault in 10 minutes' rather than just save themselves time effort and say "Here is the vault Jane is building". Keep up the good work OxBox. Happy 6th Birthday.
Thumbs up for Jane's Vault! It's great - a bit mesh, a bit of shrinking a bit of growing... foot/hand swapping... uhm, "coffee". Yeah something for everyone there. (do you need an overseer?)
My vault would be vault 324 and it would be split into A and B. 324-B will be a functional miniature society with farms, stores, real estate, the whole deal, fit to sustain about 2500-3000 people. 324-A on the other hand, will be much smaller, designed to only support around 250-300 people, but each person in A will get to chose a person or group of people in B, with a maximum of 8 per person. From that point on, the people in group A will have great control over the lives of their chosen B-person/people, choosing their job, furniture, home, etc. It’s designed to test how people would react to the idea of this unknown entity basically controlling their lives, down to what meals they can make and what color the walls are, and how the people who aren’t controlled would react to those who are.
Protip: Simplify! Condense the experiment down to one where a person has to give doses of super radiation to 2 people. Then make the partitions out of mesh and super mesh so their choice is pointless and all 3 people get the full dose of Jane's Patented Super-Radiation
I like it when Jane talks about science. Don't think she mentioned a control or variables though. Identical twins are important in psychology as one can be the control. Posh word for jane-monozygotic -as opposed to dizygotic. And who knew she was good at drawing.
Jane, you haven’t thought this vault idea through! They don’t need a bed each, they can sleep in shifts, say 3 per day, which means there are always people awake and on duty to do science. You’ve already cut the beds down to 2000. Then you invest in a bunch of space saving double bunk beds, quartering the overall bed space down to 500. Easy! 😊 Sure your bed is now basically a narrow hole in the wall but just think of all the science there is to do!
Now can they do the challenge again except this time Andy talks like the Vault-Tec Rep: "You need to design an original Vault-Tec Vault for the inevitable nuclear apocalypse and then you'll pitch it to our V.I.P! That's the Vault-Tec Investment Panel to you!"
Jane's challenge will be so easy-peasy: I mean, isn't this what she does usually in real life, conducting experiments on captive people? and in the remote chance she will be doing bad, it will be only to dissimulate :O
Given that vaults canonically hold 1000 people, Jane's vault is either enormous or will be standing room only. Either way, I'm eager to explore it in Fallout 5 and loot all of the guns specifically made for foot-hands.
Fallout 76 will be a good co-op game. Player One holds all caps and items and avoids attacking others. Player Two has weapons and ammo, constantly attacks others but immediately gives the loot to Player One before running off in Red Star mode. Player Two makes sure they don't have enough caps to pay any bounties. Good fun
if andy's reaction to jane's use of colours means that vault-tec hadn't gotten that far in marketing yet, and if we take this research grant interview as canon, then jane is not only responsible for the colour scheme of the vault suits and vault paraphenalia, but ALSO for the colour scheme of most irl fallout merchandise. her reach is so far and her influence so great, that she effects the real world from the real world, through another dimension as a relay node. god has one name, and that name is Jane Douglas

I like that Jane clearly already had a bunch of ideas for Vaults. That's why it took her less than 4 minutes to come up with an insanely delightful torture machine. Emphasis on "insanely". But also on "delightful".
I have a vault idea: Participants have to make daily videos and upload them to the Vault-Tec servers. An algorithm will decide wether the video is good enough for the participants to be rewarded with food. The parameters change daily and the participants will not be informed of the changes or rules.
The vault would be the size of a small underground city, and with a similar layout, but everyone is brainwashed by the Overseer (including security) to do specific roles. It is up to the Overseer who is brainwashed to do what.

I'd probably do a vault to see if there's a possibility for full radiation immunity. It would mostly be exposing small amounts of radiation in various forms to different unsuspecting groups of babies and pregnant women. First steps would be creating a resistance to the effects of radiation then we'd work on the possibility for an actual full genetic immunity.

Vault 108: The vault is separated into 4 heavily secure complexes with one central location as the cafeteria, a massive labyrinthine room with traps and food at the center. 8 families live in each complex, encouraged to intermingle and view themselves as one cohesive tribal unit. Thanks to location near an aquifer and a protein paste synthesis process, combined with a massive hidden store of food, if all 4 tribes go to the cafeteria, work together to plot out the changing maze, and divide up the day’s food equally, they will all easily have enough to eat. The test will see if they work together are act tribally and keep food for themselves. As security will be handled by the residents, allowing them ability to act violently against one another, the only neutral party will be scientists, selected from the tribes by robots and trained, agents in the tribes to act as agitators. What will happen? Probably a lot of dying.
Wait till Mike finds out that the mini nuke is based on a real weapon. I can't remember what it was called, but it was a small tactical warhead fired from a bazooka operated by a two man team. It was deployed in west Germany between 1968-1974. It was withdrawn for its extreme inaccuracy.
I heard Jane already has two vaults. Oxbox and Oxtra. Occasionally she encourages social interaction between the two to be able to observe what unfolds.
I have a really good vault idea you just build s normal vault with a massive armory as well as a perfectly overstocked items, everyone inside are strangers, but a very important part is all the scientists are watching through one way mirrors and other things, after a few days or months or so when every one trust each other a message is released saying one person is a psychopathic murder and then unlock the armory and have no way to close it and just see what everyone does.
My Idea: Vault 420. Everyone is Smoking all the weed all the time. Everyone is super chill all the time. Everyone is super fine and super chill. It’s awesome.
My vault idea is simple, but hopefully an effective look into the human psyche. Everything is normal except for the fact that there are no weapons in the vault save for one. A gun and a ludicrous ammount of ammo are hidden. When someone finally finds the gun we get to see what happens when someone gains absolute power over everyone.

Funnily enough that set of typewriter-like keycaps can be had on Amazon or Aliexpress for 20 pounds or so and fit on most modern mechanical keyboards. Not that you should... But you could.

Mine would probably be a vault where dwellers have to pass some sort of a monthly exam where the ones who failed would have their rations decrease every time they fail, it would test their response to pressure.
The one vault reminded me of the spartan 2 project from halo. Also living forever in the computer simulator vault doesn’t sound that bad when he isn’t torturing you. Plus most of the time you wouldn’t remember it.
