Excellent series of tutorials about electric showers. Thanks to the Shower Doctor I was able to test the thermal cut out. heater elements & diagnose the problem with a Mira shower I had which was not getting hot! Thank you!
I'm seeking advice. Engineering company says they won't replace my faulty unit because water pressure is too low. But am i right to say that it wouldn't start flowing if it was too low? As far as I know in T80 there is a flow detector and if pressure is too low it won't let the water flow. Is this correct?
If the water pressure is too low the pressure switch will not activate and in turn activate the 2 micro switches that will send electricity to the heating elements. Your shower will run cold. The pressure switch is like a small plastic piston the pushes up with water pressure against the plastic microswitch. No water pressure, no switch activation, no hot water!
Just like to say big thank you to this man here's why Had a problem with our show Watched this mans videos on the information he gave in his video I came to the conclusion it was thermal cut out So ordered the part from eBay put part in the show still the same but this person told me how to test it the new one was the same as the old one but lucky enough where I got the new part from was the same town as me so I rang them up and told them I was taking it back. When I got there they seamed to panic a bit and gave me a new one straight away I tested it the way this man told me to and I had power across the terminals didn't have this on the first two put it in the shower worked thank you shower doctor you not only helped me with fixing my shower but also stopped me from accepting a bad replacement for my shower
Thanks Shower Doctor. Your video was most informative. Being a visual learner, you've helped me understand a great deal about showers. Ive learned how to install, and test the wiring to the shower, due to the fact that im a qualified spark, but ive never actually understood fully the components. Great watch. Very entertaining... Thanks again....
HI Shower Doctor!! Thanks for your wonderful video!! My shower heats up water fine, and runs fine but it won't switch off!! I have changed the solenoid fuse and I have changed the shower head and changed the pressure relief device... now I am stuck!! Can you help?
hello, sorry if i ask here ... I want just to know is the electric shower dangeruse ? my mean : if they are over heating ? or low presure ? is it dangeriouse ? thanks ...
They are totally safe and the water can't get inside as gaskets are there to form a durable seal and stop water getting inside. So they are totally safe.
Hi John, If there is no heat at all then it is likely to be a faulty TCO, IE. no continuity across the TCO. If it is a faulty element then normally one of the elements will show resistance and the other will show no resistance.
Hi there, brilliant videos but I can't determine what my solution is. Triton t90si - water temperature has dropped dramatically. To get warm water I have to turn the dial to 9 or 10 and then the pressure is very low. I've used a multimeter to check the solenoid, tco and the elements. All seem fine. When the dial is turned down to 0 water pressure is great (but cold). I would really appreciate any help.
Hi Ronan, If it is your RCD that is tripping then you are going to need an electrician to trace the fault. If however it is the MCB (fuse) that is tripping then it is likely that you don’t have the correct fuse for the rating of your shower. Your shower cames in 4 ratings 7.5, 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 The MCB’s required would be 35amp. 40amp. 40amp 45amp The Shower Doctor
This is a question I cannot find any information on . My question is , what is the approx max time a electric shower should run for. Is it 10 min, 15, 20 , 30 , 40 , minutes or more , or is there simply no specified time. My question relates to plumbers telling me that prolonged use, at any one time in a shower for over 15 minutes or more , burns the shower components out much quicker , as the components and elements are not made to stand such constant continuous use. Why do manufacturers nor specify any max time restrictions , or is it because it has no effect on the components in the unit. Answers please.
My Creda 950DL electric shower doesn’t work properly. The Mid LED light stays off - water runs cold at full pressure. Turned the water flow dial to extreme hot - then water gets lukewarm, while the flow from the showerhead is weak. Both High LEDs stays on, while the Mid LED stay off. After watching your repair video, I tested components… I then tried to remove component/s. However, after spending about an hour trying…I found they were not straightforward to remove. I then replaced the cover and left it. I suppose because the Creda 950DL is so difficult to repair, why there is no information online showing how to repair them??? So, I guess it's got to be a new shower?!
hi Shower Doctor, great video and very well explained. in my case I have a T90 aspirante may 3/4 year old. when shower is switched of water still running.any ideas ? thanks Fran
Thank you. I have a Triton shower 9.5Kw. When I operate the switch to turn it on, neither the switch light or shower light comes ON at all. I have verified that there is electricity flowing into the unit and everything seems normal. I'm thinking that perhaps is the 'power selector unit with microswitches' which needs replacing? The shower was working fine before that. Could it be a sudden water flow issue? Many thanks!
Hello I have a fault in my shower it's Triton thermostatic xs2000xt no water coming out I checked the solenoid valve and it's ok wim wondering what could be wrong?
If there is blackening at the tco then the connections maybe loose. I would be inclined to change the solenoid if the readings are this high. Have you tested that you have 230-240v inside the shower?
The Shower Doctor Thank you for your reply. When I told the wife about the blackening on the connections, she insisted I called out an electrician. I went through everything we have discussed and one extra bit of info (prior to this (for around 2 months)the shower would work for 5 minutes or so then go cold ). However, the electrician on closer inspection noticed that one of the red live wires had melted onto the back of the plastic casing-it looked ok until you just prized behind it. He then recommended a new shower. I am now looking round for a similar shower, so it will not be too difficult to install. Once again thank you for the information . Your videos and advice gave me the confidence to use my multi-meter for the first time..
Hi there - very informative video. My problem is that my shower has taken to 'whistling' loudly! I have checked the shower head - no difference - and am now at a loss. Any ideas? Thanks.
Thank you. I've been wondering for a long time how an electric shower works. You explained it so clearly. Testimony to how there's no correlation between iq and vocation.
HI, my shower is no longer heating water, and we called tradesmen who said we need to call electrician because even after turning the mains off we can still run water of the shower. As per his advise water shouldn't be running and he wouldn't do the replacing before electrician has sort it. Could you please help me understand this and explain to me, because I don't understand why water shouldn't be running after the mains is off. Thank you
Dear ShowerDoc, I have a problem with my shower in that there is no power running to it. The fuse has not tripped in the main fuse box and there is no light above the fuse plug which the power goes into before the shower and ultimately no light on the shower itself. I was hoping to try to repair the shower if possible. The last time I used it it was fine but today there was no power showing. Can you make any suggestions on how to troubleshoot/diagnose? Many thanks
Hello Shower Doctor, I hope you can help. We have very hard water, my shower is a Galaxy Aqua 3000si 9.5kw. When in use it is making a noise like a boiling kettle. When on the high setting it is too hot to stand under so we have to use the low setting. I thought the flow might be restricted due to the shower head being scaled up but the problem is the same even with the shower head removed. I'm hoping you can advise which part needs replacing please. Thanks in advance.
Hello, I have a Triton Bezique ll which is only six months old. When it is on cold, there is no noise from it. However, when I turn it up to warm, there is a constant clunking noise. This doesn't affect the heat of the water or the flow but something's not right. This is my third Triton and I haven't experienced this with any of the others. Can you help please?
Hi, 1. What is the safest way to prevent electrocution if the water heater is faulty? 2. Would putting the shower head on the stand without my hand holding it, and water spraying on my body prevent electrocution? 3. Would putting the shower head on the stand without my hand holding it, and after water is sprayed into a pail, then I use the water from the pail by scooping it and pouring on my body prevent electrocution? 4. Would using a plastic shower head and holding the plastic shower head middle stick in my hand and spraying water on my body prevent electrocution? 5. Would using a plastic hose instead of a plastic hose that has metal outer casing helps to prevent electrocution? Thanks.
Hi, Is a copper heating cylinder better or a polyamide pvc heating cylinder better? Which type is better to prevent electrocution when it is faulty? I heard that polyamide pvc heating cylinder would prevent electrocution if a wire is loose and touches the cylinder, is it true? Thanks.
If the water comes in at 15°C and you shower at 40° IE a 25° rise in temp you should expect approx 5.25lts per min at the shower head if it is less than this contact Triton. Changing the head or hose will not help this. Temp fluctuation is caused by poor water supply check that the valve coming into the house and the valve in the line to the shower are fully open, also have you got a minimum of 1bar pressure from your main supply. Not necessary to start on cold but it wouldn’t do any harm.
Good Morning , We just move in to a new flat and there is a Mira Advanced ATL electric shower in the bathroom. Soon we starting on the shower the drain is making noise . Is it anything to do to reduced that noise. Our 2 years old daughter is scare of it. Thank you.
It may be your solenoid valve, you can check it if you have a multi meter, you should have a reading of at least k3.5 ohms, across the two terminals any less and you need a new valve. (Check the valve in the failed state.) (When it has stopped working!) If there is power getting to the solenoid and it is not operating then there is a good chance that you have a faulty solenoid. We have a video guide for testing and fitting solenoids.
First thing to check is the inlet filter, head and hose are clear. The TCO is cutting in as the tank is getting too hot, not enough water going through it and 20 mins of use is causing this.
Hi, Did you find the cause of the fault? have the same thing happening to my mums shower... checked fuse inside shower and switch in ceiling has electric flow, just not power to unit? There was water sitting in the top around heater switch.
I presume that the pump is still running? If it is then check is the inlet filter, head and hose are clear, the other possibility is a faulty flow control valve.
Hi shower doctor I'm having an issue with my triton t80xr. I have tested the shower with a multimeter as per your videos and its fine but after ten to fifteen minutes of normal running the RCD for the shower trips. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi, Great video's…. I have a fault with my Triton Caselona. The water has started to come out of the little tube at the bottom of the shower unit instead of the shower head. Any ideas what it might be?
Please help! I have a Triton Cara and the only way I can describe this shower is bipolar! the temperature fluctuates all the time, boiling hot and freezing cold. I can literally hear it boiling, then I hear like a click sound, then I prepare myself for the freezing water that will follow :'( ! Some days it is fine, and others like this. The landlord doesn't even believe me, the day he came to look at it - it was fine! Can you please help with some advice of what is wrong? Many thanks!
if the water pressure changes from the supply line(for example someone starts the dishwasher) does the mechanism recognize the pressure difference and regulate it and adjust the temp accordingly also?
The answer is yes and no! The cheaper showers do not recognise any pressure difference and as you go up through the price range the control of pressure and temperature becomes better, the more expensive showers control the temperature very accurately
I like your videos Shower Doctor, but not one of them mentions anything about the cause of dripping water out of the bottom hole of the shower when it's turned off, which was and still is the issue I've got. I just bought a new shower, removed the old shower unit and replaced it with the new one. Everything works great. Water switches on and off. Water heats and cools as it should, but theres just one problem...its STILL DRIPPING! It's driving me insane...AAAARGH!
Hello.Doctor Shower.I have an electric shower MX Inspiration QI. There is no hot water coming from shower.last time when I used shower pressed power off button all the lights appears just for seconds instead of phase shutdown light. One thing more if the pipe of shower (from electric shower box to hand shower) is twisted for long time after usage so it can effect the shower mechanism or it can create the the same problem (no hot water) which i am facing.
It maybe a faulty flow/stabilizer valve not allowing the correct amount of water into the shower. A rough check is to remove the shower head turn temperature control to fully hot the water coming out of the hose should be a bit more than a dribble then turn to fully cold and it should be coming out at full flow. If there is not much difference between the two then you could have a faulty flow valve.
hi showerdoc my shower keeps going off and on,the temps alright but the water goes off then on about four times, and now gone off for good, any advice. cheers
Hi, I have an old-ish iflo electric shower in a caravan. The problem I am having is that when the power button is pressed the water comes through freezing cold and the power light does not come on, and then intermittently the light comes on and the water goes boiling hot (no happy medium temperature), then off again and cold and so on and so forth. Could you help suggesting what this could be please? Thank you.
The things to check first are: 1 That the main valve coming into your house is fully open. 2 Then check that the valve on the line to the shower is fully open. If these valves are not fully open then there may not be enough water getting to your shower to cool it properly the overheat safety device will turn the power off until it cools Then it all starts again Make sure that the shower head is clean and clear, that the hose isn’t kinked (this can happen just behind the hand set where it is difficult to see) also check the inside of the hose although it can look OK on the outside it could have collapsed internally The other possibility is a faulty flow/stabilizer valve not allowing the correct amount of water into the shower. I would also check the power supply to the shower is constant.

Hi, I have a triton t80 gsi that has stopped working. I have a reading off 3.6Kohms on the solinoid, but it looks like its not opening and letting water in. iave took readings from the heater and these are between 12-16, with the power on ! im getting 240v across live and earth on the heater. is this correct? to me thats a trip! i also carried out a continuity test on the TCO and this is ok also. any help would be bonus.
Hello Shower Doctor.. I just bought and installed a Panasonic DH3KT1. The problem is the water is not hot enough even when I push the dial all the way up. It only gets hot when he water flow is really low. Could you please help advise?
My shower switched on Ok but when I pull the power cord to off the water continues to flow. (only cold) I have to switch the water off at the mains and wait a few seconds before switching the water back on and the shower stops. What can I do to fix it?
i have the opposite problem, ive a tritton t90xr and i get correct pressure on each setting but no hot water at this very moment i have the element out and the tco off and ive them both for continuity and ohm and there fine ,, ive new element here ready to go in but afraid to install it cause i wont be able to return it then is there something im missing
We had a Triton T90 xr fitted about 2-3 years ago . We were told it was a new model .What happens now , you switch on the ceiling power switch on by a cord , and the light comes on . I press the button on the shower and the ceiling light swich light goes off .When I press the shower button off . The ceiling power light switch light comes back on .The shower does't come on . Before this , Just recently , you were in the shower and the water just stopped . Power seemed to be on .Sometimes the shower runs for a few seconds and then stops . I hope I made sense . Is this a repair job I can do myself . Please help !
Hello Shower Doctor. I have a triton enrich shower. There is a light at the top of the shower unit which indicates power (ie electricity) into shower unit. When the rotating switch is in off position the light is on. When I rotate it to on position the light is off and the shower does not come on. Can you tell from this what part inside shower is faulty and needs replacing?
My electric shower is spitting water and when i turn it on i put on cold setting it just spits water but it gets really hot i have to turn it off can somebody help much appreciated.
It needs to be connected into the water mains, and the main needs a pressure of 1bar.Without knowing more about your property I can't give any more useful advice
hi i have a triton ivory 2 and it does not seem to have any power running to it :/ the light on the power switch is on but the "power" light on the shower it's self does not, any help please?

Hi ! I have T90Z and its about 4 monts old now! The problem is that the water pressure is not so strong anymore as b4 and if i use shower bit longer like about 20 min it will stop making hot water and then I need to leavit to cool the machine down and after thst working again but water pressure still not good as it was few months ago. Thanx
Hi, I have a Triton T90si, which has become faulty. The water is runnuing too hot, then runs cold without the controls being adjusted. Any ideas as to what might be wrong?
When I pull my shower cord the light comes on to signal Power but when I push the power button on the Triton the light at the pull chord goes out and the shower does nothing, subsequently when I unpress/turn off the Triton the pull chord light comes back on. I have checked the circuit breaker for a bad connection and it's fine. Please Help Triton Jewl 9.5kW

My Creda (650) shower has stopped working. Pull chord light still on and circuit breaker still on. The high and medium button lights have gone off, the cold button light is still on, however there is no water coming through at all on any of the three buttons. The shutdown button- the light come on and flashes then goes off-as normal, but there has been nothing to shutdown.

The Shower Doctor Thank you for your reply. I have just checked the solenoid value and have a reading of k3.99 ohms. Although what I have noticed that the thermal cut out (to the left of the solenoid) looks slightly black on a couple of the electrical connections. Could the symptoms I first described be related to this item. I look forward to your reply.
chemistry636 solenoid value has a reading of k3.99 ohms. Continuity Test-Thermal cut out; the sound comes on and stays on, numbers appear then disappear and then rests at three zero`s with the sound still on. Continuity Test-Pressure switch; NO sound, however there is a reading of 1877.
If you have a power shower then yes you can use a head that will give you a restricted flow. HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!! If you have an electric shower then you need to use a head that is designed for an electric shower and preferably the original manufactures shower head or thier recommended replacement.
How would it save hot water for other people when an electric shower works off the cold main and heats as you use it, not from your hot water tank? How would it save money? Just because the shower head gives out less water doesn't necessarily mean it will cost less to run.
I am using Panasonic DH-3DL2S Instant Water Heater. After the installer left, I notice there is one metal piece that I think the installer forget to push downwards to secure the wire end, one side of the metal piece is clamping the wire end and the other side facing upwards, see red arrow pointing to metal piece, photo i.imgur.com/ZKDSE2X.png video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BVaKPSczNS4.html May I know should I push the metal piece towards the wire to clamp the wire? Thanks a lot.
