We walk you through doing a shower door hinge replacement on a custom framless shower.

*Make sure before you order your new hinge that you make sure that you order the correct replacement hinge there are numerous different hinge styles which all have different hole/notch/cutout patterns and sizes.
*If you choose to do your own shower door hinge installation PLEASE be careful it is safety glass but it can still cause serious injury.
*Tools for the job- 4 Wood shims, P3 screwdriver (most common), P2 screwdriver (usually only seen on 1/4" doors), , or appropriate size Allen key.

What about replacing the brackets that hold the non-door glass parts to the tile?

What about when the door being hold by the shims it's the only acces to loosen the screws on the inside of the shower?

Very helpful. My doors work OK and I have levelled them with this method before but one of the screw on caps for the hinge pin fell off.Some sort of double threaded arrangement in there I can't quite figure out. The pin backed out and is sticking up too far to put the cap back on. Looks like it just has to be tweaked in a bit, don't think it'll come apart but who knows.

Any tips on a leaking shower door hinge, it's directly opposite to the shower head, hence direct water impact

On a single door the top hinge keeps loosening allowing the door to sag. The rubber gasket, I believe, has lost its grip. Is it really hinge specific or can I use a thin, tacky rubber square? Also, the door and panels don't have a full cutout but holes drilled for the screws.

We just and a single ⅜ inch glass shower door installed with 2 nickel hinges. The glass door is mounted to the tiled wall but the glass door over time slips and the bottom sweep start rubbing on the tile floor. Is the door too heavy for only two hinges? Should the installer have used 3 hinges instead. The contractor claims we slam the door to hard and won't come out to fix the problem. Any ideas on what we can do? Awaiting comments! Thanks!

I have that same hinge you started out with, there's 3 glass panels, the middle panel is the door, and the side panels are fixed. Our door will not stay closed. the gap up and down from where the door meets the side panel is perfect about 3/8 inch to 1/8 gap, nothings hitting. but when we close the door, it swings open about 10-15 degrees, very annoying. Can my hinge be adjusted to fix this issue? or do i need new hinges?

Rich that sounds interesting. I do have a few questions. Was the door always like that or did it get like that over time? Who installed the door yourself or a professional shower installer? What it sounds like to me is that the hinges are installed with a 5 degree offset pin designed to keep the door closed agents a hard sweep. My guess is that its backwards and not needed. mine is making a snap sound when I close my door. opening it makes no sound. Sounds like its coming from the bottom hinge. Can I leave it as it is or is it something I need to replace asap? thanks

My shower door use to close all the way. Now it swings open 1/8 to 3/16" letting water leak out. I think I have the same hinges. Is there a way to adjust them to help keep door shut?

Thank you Jay Chino you potentially have adjustable hinges or something has moved hard to tell without looking. If there are little caps with screws underneath next to the mounting screws than yes you can adjust. Loosen the small adjustable screws and move the door where it needs to be and tighten. Done. If not than you have another problem.

My shower door hing broke. There is lot of calcium build up and I can't turn the screw. I tried spraying WD40 but didn't work. Do you have any suggestions? The screen is starting to strip so I am trying to find a way to loosen it.

I want to replace the hinge and gasket in my shower door (glass to glass) are all hinges standard size or do I need to get a similar hinge as the original? I cant see the manufacturers name/part number so not sure how to find the replacement hinge.

There are 2-3 typical size hinges if you take them apart sometimes there is a manufacturer name inside

if i have to replace the gasket, will any type of gasket work as i am unable to see the brand of my shower hinge? Or alternatively, should i be replacing the entire hinge?

great question you should use the correct gasket for the hinge also keep in mind you will need to find the correct hinge for the cutout if you decide to change the hinge.

Just bought a house with frameless shower doors, I've gone through numerous shower door sweeps because they keep cracking. Is there a way to raise the shower door a 1/8 an inch? Thanks

Thank you Rachal Prince yes you can raise your door an 1/8 inch if necessary and if there is space in the hinges. You would get inside close the door shim the door like in the video loosen the hinges raise the door while pushing the shims under further to the amount that you would like and tighten the hinges back down. Thank you Ryan James if the door is staying open it’s usually one of a few things. The hinge is an offset hinge and meant for a different scenario, the door is not lined up properly with the panel, the wall it’s mounted to if it’s mounted to a wall is not a true 90 degrees and you need an adjustable hinge, or you have an adjustable hinge and it’s not set correctly. Hope that helps.

I have the exact looking shower door set-up and hinge you are using in this video. My question is.... Is the tension or "closing tension" adjustable on these hinges?? Or is the answer to replace both hinges? The door is PERFECTLY aligned and closes evenly, but when closed there is not enough tension to hold the door against the plastic striker strip on the glass wall. Any help or advice???

It really depends J. Ohanian. What is the manufacturer and model of the door? Are you looking for the shim size for under a fixed panel or how much space should be under the door itself?

@@theglassguy5564 Its a 3/8" thick x 29 7/8" wide x 75" tall, single hinged door swinging door. Just looking how much I should shim it for install and before installing sweep. Thank you.

Typically there should be 7/16”-1/2” space for the bottom sweep on a framless door. Hope that helps good luck with the install!

Just the screws that I showed. I was alone filming this so it was a little tough to show everything. We can possibly do another video at some point showing more.
