I remember seeing Scrappy and Krazy Kat as a kid in the early 60's on a no budget local kids show. I thought these were long lost. Good to see them here. Thanks for posting them.

# Great looking characters, Scrappy, Margie, and that cat, in a great cartoon. Lotta weird butt jokes though. Scrappy's Ghost Story is one of my favorite cartoons of all time and in general the Scrappy series has some of the best of the old black and white vintage cartoons from the 20s and 30s.

Scrappy is one bad kid, but he cracks me up! Thanks for posting these cartoons I never knew about!

I had to look this up- the "Oh, you kid." reference written by a skywriter is a reference to that same catchphrase. It has an interesting Wiki page that includes "It also led to legal action. A farmer in Missouri who sent a woman a postcard saying "I Love My Wife, But Oh You Kid!" was given a fine for sending improper matter through the mail. A judge in Los Angeles ruled that anyone using the salutation "Oh, you kid!" in public should be imprisoned on a charge of disturbing the peace, and a magistrate in Pittsburgh said that anyone using the phrase in public should be whipped. In Atlanta, a man was shot by a woman's husband for crying "Oh, you kid!" towards her; the gunman was released without charge.[1]"

The Scrappy cartoons I remember most had him with his little brother-maybe because when I first saw these Scrappys I was 4 and my brother was 2.

Looks like Scrappy is fast paced and well done..more so than Warners' features of the time.

Watched again 4 months later. Still think there are a lot of weird butt jokes. Sound cartoons are still somewhat new, and they do not seem to have a very good grasp of voice characterization, just make it sound small and childish. This would seem to be Scrappy's 4th outing in his birth year of 1931. Still love that cat's design.

I wasn't thinking of Bugs, Donald or T&J, but I think Scrappy with his less defined identity would be a good candidate. I think that Mighty Mouse would be ideal for a 4th incarnation in a darker, sexier, more graphicly violent anime style. Epic Mickey was a step in the right direction if I remember what I've seen of it, but Mighty would be perfect. I'm not sure anime has exactly gone downhill, but there is so much of it now we aren't so easily impressed by it. Loved animaniacs.

After seeing this and a few other Scrappy cartoons released the same year, I can conclude they did cut the real ending. The other cartoons show an iris out effect at the end of the cartoons whereas this one doesn't. However, and iris shot is shown at the beginning like the other Scrappies. I'm just wondering why they'd do that...

Scrappy breaks the 4th wall to ask everyone: “Is there a Fireman 👨‍🚒 🔥 in the house?” @ 6:10.

Makes me wonder how a cartoon like this would be done in anime. I don't know how I would respond to it...

I'm just afraid that if this cartoon was done in anime, it might be viewed as being perverted, as anime has largely gone downhill to. Scrappy isn't like that; context is very important. The idea of remaking old cartoons in anime style sounds appealing, but IMO the likes of Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry wouldn't work well. Their designs are perfect for their cartoons. However, if a Japanese (or any) studio made new cartoons inspired by old ones, I'm all for it, for I love shows like Animaniacs.

Designwise I don't see why this could not have had an anime look. Nowadays even though there are no real old fashioned cartoons, stylewise anything goes because of a huge market demanding product. 90% of the humor in anime makes me cringe, I mostly like dark (and violent) anime, comedy just detracts, for me that is pretty much what anime is. Arguably the first anime was the Fleischers' Superman ' cartoons'. Might be fun if a Japanese studio starting remaking old 30s and 40s toons in anime style
