"Me & Bobby McGee" is my favorite song by Janis Joplin & she recorded it a few days before her death. It was written by Kris Kristofferson. Janis was a one of a kind singer with a unique voice. Sadly we lost her too soon. She was only 27 when she died. She had a lot of great songs such as "Summertime", "Down On Me", "Maybe", "Little Girl Blue", "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)", "Get It While You Can", "Bye, Bye Baby", "Move Over", "Mercedes Benz" etc.

I don't know, she had a pretty good life and she had lots of recognition and opportunity. Remember, Janis Joplin is not a tragic figure. People just think she is tragic because she sang the blues. But she said, just b/c I sing the way I do, does not mean it defines me. She was a gambler and was careless. As her manager John Cooke and Sam Andrew from Big Brother said, she got "cocky" with heroin use b/c she had kicked in 69 & thought she could occasionally use it. Well her and 9 other people died in the LA area the same weekend from unknowingly shooting pure heroin.
@JaquelineGoodspeed
@JaquelineGoodspeed 2 месяца назад
@cassmcmlix Yes but if you really listen to her, she was relentlessly bullied as a child and she went back to a reunion , now famous, but still home gave her no credit, hence one reason for using heroin, picking the wrong guys to love her, plus all the sick crap that goes with being famous. Bottom line, the love she sought, she again looked in the wrong place, her home town.
@SG-js2qn
@SG-js2qn 3 месяца назад
Phil, I could be wrong, but I think what the lyrics are about is giving up everything, every possession, every relationship. You can't be truly free so long as you have anything. You need to give everything away. Which is part of the song's ache, because she'd give up the rest of her time in life to go back and be with Bobby. The song was written by Kris Kristofferson, who also plays supporting roles in the movies "A Star is Born," with Barbra Streisand, and "Blade," the first successful Marvel movie (1998).

Me and Bobby McGee,” though usually associated with Janis Joplin (who recorded it shortly before her death in 1970), was written by Kristofferson and first recorded by Roger Miller in 1969. It was later recorded by Kenny Rogers (1969) and Gordon Lightfoot (1970) as well as others. Kristofferson briefly dated Janis Joplin before her death in October 1970.

“The first time I heard Janis Joplin’s version was right after she died. Paul Rothchild, her producer, asked me to stop by his office and listen to this thing she had cut. Afterwards, I walked all over L.A., just in tears. I couldn’t listen to the song without really breaking up. So when I came back to Nashville, I went into the Combine [Publishing] building late at night, and I played it over and over again, so I could get used to it without breaking up.” - Kris Kristofferson (2015)

Kris Kristofferson was a great songwriter. Janis made this one her own. While not on the list of Kris's "greatest songs", I personally like "To Beat The Devil". It is mostly spoken, but a great example of Kris's writing. Kris performing "Why Me" live on a set full of country greats may be his best performance.

Janice Joplin was a big part of my life growing up because my older brother loved her music and I was just 10 when I heard her voice and songs and fell in love with it. Her voice was unique and so was her life. This is also my favorite song of hers and piece of my heart. When she sang them she did it with her heart and soul. She kind of reminds me of how Joe Cocker sang his songs they both sang with their hearts and souls and the music went through every fiber of their being you could tell that by the way they performed. I sure do miss singers that can sing like this and give it every thing they have. What’s better is all these years later and a lot of people are listening to her and Joes music. I loved your reactions.

With the likes of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and a few others. I don't listen to country very often. But when I do, it's usually this. No one's sitting in a booth, with headphones on, playing over the track that was recorded by others in the band a month beforehand. I think some of the earlier stuff I saw your act to is with big brother and the holding company, and I love that kind of garage band era as well. They were so intense. And they were at woodstock. But she did go with a couple other bands she was with one called the kozmic blues band for a bit, but I believe this one was the latest and last one which was the Full Tilt Boogie band. And so yeah, you're right, it is a bit more polished but dang, it's also good. This one just absolutely cooks though.

Written by the great songwriter Kris Kristofferson. He also wrote the great songs "Sunday Morning Coming Down", "Help Me Make it Through the Night," and "Why Me." Many people record his songs and he is a great storyteller. His recordings of the songs I mentioned are worth listening to, especially from him, because he emotes his lyrics just as he intends them to be as the writer. That's why his versions are often more emotional and relatable than others who do it. This is probably the exception. Janis rocked this! Kris tells the story about this song, Janis, and how much he loved what she did with it. It's a video here on RU-vid you might find interesting.

i probably misunderstood it as i do most things but i thought when you are with someone you say you dont have freedom but when you are broken up you have your freedom but now you have nothing left to lose. I guess thats why i like music so much, it all about what it means to you ❤

“the girl who sang the blues…”from Don Mclean’s American Pie is Janis Joplin

Don McLean said in a 2015 interview that Janis is not the girl who sang the blues. He also said Dylan isn’t the Jester, and Jesus is the King, not Elvis. Sure blew me away, as I had always believed them to be true.

This is a song that the Grateful Dead also do.They started doing it as a tribute to Janis Joplin. The song is actually written as Bobby being a girl.It was written by Kris Kristofferson a country/folk singer.
