I just got a new precision rifle: a 6mm BR Ackley Improved (BRA). The video goes through the build, a quick description of the round, and shows the rifle's first shots at anything past 300 yards.

It was cool watching the bullet trajectory on your 700 yard shots!

My next video will be on putting together a 2x4-top steel popper. I used the 6 BRA for the shots - roughly a 2" group at 500 yards. The thing is an absolute dream to shoot. The only thing with this rifle is that it has very narrow accuracy nodes. 30.7gr of H4895 with Berger 105s gets me the best, 30.6 isn't bad, 30.8 gets me a sticky bolt. For the video I'll be putting out, I used 30.66 and it worked well.

Mark - thanks for the comment. If you want to see a really wild trace shot, go to the 4-minute mark in my fire forming video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lCErejricuw.html. The shot is with a reduced fire forming load (and in brass that's not made for the rifle) at 1200 yards, and the arc is something to behold. It's a little tougher to see, but once you do, it's wild to see how far it drops.

Wow - hi Adam! I didn't expect to run into you here. And thanks for subscribing. I've got a very intense series coming (intense as in difficult to create, and in the weeds from a physics perspective) on what's happening during recoil and the why's behind common techniques to manage recoil.

Thanks for the video. I would love to see/hear your review of the differences between 6 BRA vs 6 Dasher. What are the case dimension differences, velocity differences and theoretically why one would be preferred over another.
@TwoMinutestoTarget
@TwoMinutestoTarget 4 года назад
I've never owned a Dasher, so my comments only come from seeing them fired and the research I did prior to settling on the 6 BRA. Here goes: - I believe the BRA to be the most efficient round in its class - I am biased, of course. I am still amazed at the velocity I get out of so little powder. With my 30.6 gr H4895, I get in the mid-2900s and with my 29.5 gr load I get in the mid+ 2800s - both with Berger 105 Hybrids. Compare that to my ex-6mm CM where I got 3080 fps with the same bullet at 42 gr of H4350. Now, it's a slower powder, etc., etc, but still... - The Dasher has a larger case capacity than the BRA, but it isn't quite as efficient with it. When I was doing my research, it seemed to take about a full grain more of the same powder to get the velocities the BRA does. To refresh my memory, I just did a search and found someone mentioning a load of 31.5 gr of H4895 with a 28" barrel getting 2936 fps. I get slightly better with a 26" barrel and 30.6 gr. - I big factor in my decision making process was the article on the Precision Rifle Blog from a year ago that showed standard deviations from top calibers. The BRA scored the best at 3.8. I can tell you from my experience that the article was not wrong. If I get in the upper 4s, I am not happy. If I do my part at the bench, with the right load I usually see 3 - 4.5 on any given string. I have a picture of my Labradar of a string where every shot was within 1 fps. The article is here: precisionrifleblog.com/2018/12/14/rifle-caliber/ - I think because of the case capacity, the Dasher would be better able to shoot the 115 DTACs. I just shot a ladder with them last weekend. At 31.0 gr of Varget, I got 2826 fps and at 30.2 I got 2844. At the next charge (30.4) I got a sticky bolt. My rifle seems to like rounds exiting in the mid-2800s, so I'm going to try loads from 31.0 to 3.13 and see what happens. I would love to hear from someone who has tried the DTACs in the Dasher.

The more I look at the 6BR the more I like it and amped up with an Ackley Improved version... oh my! Thanks for the great video. Btw, is there anyway to get a little more specifics as to that shooting location? Looks a lot like Mammoth, CA which we usually, when it's not buried in smoke, get to once a year. I would love to do some shooting like that the next time we can get up there.

MDT has a ready-made one that works nicely. Advertises 12-round, but it's tough to get in 10. I also have 3 kits, but the MDTs work so well that I haven't bothered.
