On 5 December 2013, this Boeing 767-300 operated by Delta Airlines was set for a trip from Madrid to New York. During the take off roll, one of the tyres burst causing debris and shrapnel to burst through the wing. This leads to several issues and an emergency situation. The crew needed to keep calm and work together to deal with this string of emergency’s and get the aircraft landed safely.

I really like that this channel goes out of its way to report on lesser known incidents. I've seen three different analyses of the Tenerife disaster; I don't need a fourth.

Ive seen at least a dozen different videos regarding the Tenerife disaster, all but 1 based on the same old tropes of the original American report, completely ignoring, that it was highly disputed at the time and later discredited. A lot of ppl could use a correct representation of it based on the new report, instead of ppl continuing to regurgitate the same old falsehoods. That said, this is, why I keep coming back to this channel. Its sober and factual, not sensational like so many others, and covering a variety of accidents and incidents, that most overlook. Far more interesting!

I think this is very similar to what happened to the Air France Concord - with the exception of the debris not hitting a fuel tank. If it had, this may well have had a very different outcome.
@CuriousPilot90
@CuriousPilot90 Месяц назад
That’s true, I find it difficult to believe that the metal rod was in the tyre from the retreading process. But if the runway was checked beforehand, where did it come from?
@kippjames

Possibly the hydraulics or suspension
@donaldpayne1376

I understood from memory [ mentor pilot ], it has been suggested the Concorde fuel tank rupture while it was struck with debris, was over filled and the pressure wave from the debris impact was unable to dissapate before rupture due to insufficient air space in the tank.

I didn’t get shown this video when you published it!! Great to see you back. This was a really interesting incident, it almost seemed played down considering they are landing with only one hydraulic system operational. Landing on emergency brakes with no steering and minimal steering is serious! Some of the new animations were pretty good but somewhat a bit distracting as there are many. Thank you for a great story.

Similar (not as extreme) to Des Moines in 1989 in that hydraulics were lost by explosive failure, trained, off duty airline pilot on board to assist in a big way, and crew saving many lives by good training and calmness.

Yeah, I remember, amazing by the entire flight crew and such luck to have a DC9 training captain flying as a passenger, who had actually trained in controlling the plane with the engines in the simulator on his own time after the Japan Airlines 123 crash.

Welcome back - your videos were missed! It's rather inconvenient that you're not independently wealthy and have absolutely nothing better to do than make videos for us! Adulting is such a bummer. As always, it's a refreshingly fresh incident (by which I mean it's not an overly-publicized, everyone-has-made-a-video-about-it type of incident), & informative & interesting, without being dramatic. With regard to the *solicited* feedback concerning the new editor: I appreciated reverting back to using white & black (most of the time) for the text, and how the parts of the plane that were impacted were outlined in red, but the multiple transition effects, small size of the text, and the short amt of time that the text was stationary & readable at times, kinda detracted from the video bc things were fading, sliding, typewriting, etc, in and out, from all sides, so it was hard to keep up sometimes. Your videos already stand out for their content & quality - don't feel like you need to make them flashy - we're not bored!

@@CuriousPilot90I almost forgot: I have 2 "marketing" (for lack of a better word) ideas, and I think one is really stellar. 1) this isn't the stellar one. Your logo is awesome, but it doesn't actually provide your name. If I search for CP, I get an endless list of CPR videos. When searching for "curious pilot," though, as soon as I hit the "i" in "pilot", your channel was #3 in the results. So, you should include "curious pilot" at some point, and 2) this is the hold-onto-your-seat, gonna-blow-your-mind idea: tie in an animal rescue, preferably one for puppies. Your viewership would increase tenfold, overnight, if there's a remote chance a puppy is somehow involved. Maybe the pilot's wife's best friend's uncle's fishing buddy's Facebook friend rescued a dog - just mention that, show a picture of a puppy, and you should be golden! Just sayin'...

Putting armor plating under the wing is not practical, and to prevent foreign objects on runways you would have in inspect the runway after every use. This accident falls in the category of shit happens. The crew did a great job.

The basic precept of fail-safe design is that a single point of failure does not result in catastrophic failure. This was the Achilles heel of the DC-10. It is not acceptable that all three independent hydraulic systems are crippled by intrusion of debris. The contention by the Spanish authorities that a piece of metal was left inside a tire during the retreading process was absurd. They’re just engaged in a coverup to protect their own asses and national prestige

*This is like a schoolboy project. Well-intentioned but just hopeless. Basic aviation procedures have not been researched and are referred to with wrong terms; grammar is generally crap; and the "graphics" at **15:11** (shaky writing in a child's circle with the mis-spelled "pannels") are cringeworthy.*
