It was an actual giant statue behind them. 🤣 Song's name, "BABYMETAL DEATH" is actually a pun, a play on words with the Japanese word "desu" meaning "I am" or "we are" and sounding (mispronounced) pretty much like the English word "death". So, the song's name actually means "We are BABYMETAL" and they are also introducing themselves in the lyrics ("Su-metal desu, Yuimetal desu, Moametal desu"). Which is perfect, because it was at the time (and is again) their usual show opener (but not this time, more later...). That concert was Legend 1997 - Su-metal seitan sai, Su-metal's 16th birthday party and took place on December 21st, 2013 at the Makuhari Messe Event Hall in Chiba. This time, they used it as a closing number. The meaning of the whole show was their transition from a j-pop idol group sub-unit to a legit metal band. And this was the final piece: the sacrifice of Su-metal, giving up her mortal life as a human and Idol to reborn as a metal Goddess. Also the beat on the intro and the final statue crumbling are tributes to Metallica. The neckbrace is a recurring item and one of their many tributes to X-Japan. 🤘‍🦊

💀 ⚡ 💕 / 💀 💀 💀 While BABYMETAL Death is usually the concert opener, in this case it was the final song. The kamishibai (picture story narrative) that introduced this song translates as follows: "Legend One-Nine-Nine-Seven. It is the story that, receiving the legendary corset from the god of the Metal, she abandons being human and shall be reborn as a goddess. The gene which has been determined from ancient time is destined to be guided, boarding on the ark of time. The apocalypse prophesied the DOOMSDAY. Towards it, there remains… little time… (5) Are You (4) Ready to (3) (2) Mosh'sh (1) Mosh'sh (0) Mosh'sh"

Great reaction! Right at the beginning I thought "Man, you haven´t seen anything yet!" 🤣 Who is singing? The crowd is singing! And the backtrack, to be honest. But at the concert I visited, this song was used as the show opener (regular use😉), and the whole crowd was yelling B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L, and they were louder than the backtrack, as you would expect from a genuine BABYMETAL crowd😆 It was such an amazing experience! The sacrifice of Suzuka Nakamoto, reborn as Su-Metal. This is the greatest version of "BABYMETAL Death" ever. It was the end of the show, as Suzuka Nakamoto, who sacrificed her J-Pop life, was reborn as Su-Metal, going out to lead the Metal Resistance. Btw., #notacult 🤣

_DARKNESS IMPRISONING ME!! ABSOLUTE HORROR!!_ Oh, wait... _BABYMETAL DEATH!! BABYMETAL DEATH!!_ 1997 is Su's birth year, and she is the legend that was born. This is the Dec 2013 show for Su-metal's 16th birthday. She sacrifices her J-Pop Idol/Mortal self to be reborn as a Metal Goddess in the fight for Heavy Metal to triumph over the "big bad, oppressive" J-Idol industry (lore/story-arc for these concerts). IRL - Babymetal split from their original Idol Group and became an independent act earlier in 2013. While this concert happened at the end of 2013, this song (here used as a show closer) in a way, signifies Babymetal becoming a true metal band. Starting in 2014, the Kami Band (east) became a permanent presence for Babymetal, while at this concert, they were only for the 5-song encore out of the 14-song setlist. The statue is physically there, not a projection, and is the 2nd nod to Metallica (And Justice for All concert with Lady Liberty breaking apart). Metallica was a big inspiration for the girls early on, and the metal-head producer Kobametal as well. The girls fell in love with Metal after watching Metallica live in Japan, as they were new to the genre themselves at that time. _Desu_ = "I am / We are" Babymetal Desu = "We are Babymetal" Su-metal Desu = "I am Su-metal" Add a lisp, and it becomes "Babymetal Death". So really, just an innocent song where the girls introduce themselves. 🤗 #notacult 😇🤘🦊

OTFGK, but an interesting take posted on BABYMETAL REDDIT by VulpineDeity: Take it a step farther. Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase. Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I am SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL. The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west. BABYMETAL DEATH! follows the trope and it's the moment that they all transform into their magical alter egos at the start of the show. 🦊 🦊 🦊 🖖 ❤

It was about the rebirth of Su. I have to say that watching the expressions on your face was a riot as this cacophony of sound and theatrics unfolded. This song is still played today and is often used as the starting number of their show. As the members of Babymetal introduce themselves. This was in 2014 the day after Su's 16th. birthday (she was born in 1997). So how did you celebrate your 16th birthday?

And what did you do for your 16th birthday. Anyway, they have only crucified su-metal 5 times, what is the problem... You were close with the resurrection as the Queen of metal from a jpop idol, others have explained more. The chants are the crowd, you must learn all the words and chants for a concert or you will get a death stare from su-metal.

What happened next lol the Metal Goddess was born. Actually what happened next was mental they played the Budokan early 2014 and Su was on fire(Akatsuki,Rondo of Nightmare etc) then their manager had a brain fart well it should have been but turned out to be pure genius he sent them to Sonisphere in the UK an open air metal festival where the main headliners were Iron Maiden and the girls got switched from the side stage on to the main stage as Gimme Chocolate had gone viral so found themselves in front of 55000 UK metal heads including the Satan Slaves,haha i was there it was a miracle 35 minutes later they had the crowd cheering for more,been in the Foxhole ever since lol 🦊 Nice shredding by the way.

So I'm not going to bother describing to you the whole story behind this song as it was already stated more than once in the comments. I will say this song is part of a trilogy with this song being the final piece. The other 2 were headbanger and Akatsuki, both of which I think you've reacted to... SORT OF. So for THIS performance, you actually reacted to the wrong version of Akatsuki. As a result, I'd highly recommend reacting to Akatsuki Unfinished. It is quite different feeling than the one you reacted to as it might just hit you in the feelies. On a totally different topic, you mentioned anything that has a viking vibe is a plus in your book. Have you ever checked out Amon Amarth? They're one of my favorite bands right up there with Babymetal. Great band that you should check out and react to if you have never listened to them. They're viking metal, although for some reason they don't consider themselves as such. Another thing I wanted to say is you mentioned the drum work in this song. I'm sure you've heard of the band TOOL. But have you ever reacted to Danny Carey "Pneuma" by TOOL (Live in Concert)? If not, please do. I can promise you that your jaw will be on the ground. Danny is known as the drumming octopus, and this song is a good display as to why. Also really cool to just watch anyhow. Anyhow, keep up the good work and looking forward to more!

We know. But who exactly are you talking about and what point are you making? The Eastern Kami band lineup remained relatively stable for years with the 2 guitar slots mainly being shared between 3 people. The Western Kami band, created to tour Europe and America, is relatively stable as well. If you meant Babymetal, they are not a band, and they have only replaced one member due to illness and it took 5 years to do. So yes, your comment is technically correct about the Kamis, but is irrelevant to the reaction.

And on that night....The hashtag #Notacult was born. But for context. This performance was the final song of the Legend 1997 show. Under normal circumstances they play this song at the start of a show as a means of introduction. But this stage performance is special. They have included several easter eggs scattered through out. The neck brace was featured in the "Headbanger" MV and is a tribute to "Yoshiki" the drummer from the band X-Japan who is forced to wear a neck brace due to injuries suffered from long term headbanging on stage. The statue and the opening riff are tributes to Metallica. As Metallica was one of the first bands to accept the girls not to mention it was at one of their shows that Su-Metal made the realization that Metal music was meant to be felt. Direct Quote from her. "''For me it was in 2013, when I had the chance to see Metallica perform live at the Summer Sonic music festival in Japan. Until then, I’d listened to heavy metal on CDs, but experiencing their live performance for the first time really drove the sound into my heart. It struck home that "metal is music that hits your heart, not your ears." I was shocked to find out that such powerful music exists in this world and it was then that I realized how amazing heavy metal actually is.-" . Other Easter eggs...The name of the show...Legend 1997. 1997 is the year Su-Metal was born. There would later be Legend 1999 shows for the other girls in ref to their birth years. Another tid bit. This show was held in Dec 2013. The birth month of Su-Metal. So it was a birthday show of sorts.
@Wolfpack94487
@Wolfpack94487 3 дня назад
Minor corrections: "Legend 1999" happened before "Legend 1997" (June 30, IIRC). And "Legend 1997" happened on Dec 21, exactly the day right after Su-Metal´s birthday. Some hell of a sweet 16 party 😄

DEATH LEGEND 1997 APOCALYPSE @ MAKUHARI MESSE. Translation to the opening monologue:- •メタルの魂を守るため 自らの命と引き換えに戦った In order to defend the soul of the Metal, in exchange for her own life, Su-Metal fought. •やがて SU-METALの魂は 紅の炎となり Before long, SU-METAL's soul became the crimson flame •天空を紅く染めたのであった and dyed the sky crimson. •だが 遠くの星が消えゆくように However, as the distant stars go out, •命の終焉はこの世の理なのだ the end of life is the law of nature. •今紅き月がSU-METALと共に燃えゆく• • • Now the crimson moon is burning out with SU-METAL. Often used for opening up every BABYMETAL Concert, now they switch to Metal Galaxy "In The Name Of" on special occasion. Death Legend 1997 Apocalypse:- Legend 1997 Apocalypse is a concert celebrating Su-Metal aka Suzuka Nakamoto 16th Birthday 🎉(Seitansai) which took place in Makuhari Messe in Chiba prefecture. Metallic Fans will notice the opening riffs which derived from Metallica song "ONE" which pays homage to Metallica. Live:- Death Legend 1999 & 1997 Apocalypse (stylized as LIVE~LEGEND 1999&1997 APOCALYPSE) is the second live video release by the Japanese heavy metal band Babymetal. The album contains live footage of two shows, entitled Legend "1999" and Legend "1997" (named after birth years of the members of Babymetal), performed in Japan in 2013. Live: Legend 1999 & 1997 Apocalypse (2014). Live at Budokan: Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse (2015). The Destruction Of The Statue is similar to Metallica Justice for All live concert in Mexico City, Mexico 🇲🇽. The Japanese word "desu" (です) is a copula (= to be). The Eastern Japanese almost drop "u" of this word, so the word "desu/des" sounds like "death". And someone started writing "DEATH" instead of "です" (desu). It makes sense only where the Japanese word "desu" is expected to come. The title "BABYMETAL DEATH" means only "We are BABYMETAL." No relation to the death itself. I'm not sure of its origin, but I saw long before such a character as a vampire or a death metal singer in a comic and all his "です" (desu) were replaced with "DEATH" to emphasize his character. With such an air, it works well. Without such an air, it probably doesn't work. There is a genre named "Death Metal". The sound of this tune seems to fall within that genre, and the lyric writer may have put many "DEATH"s to emphasize the Death-Metal-ness. It might be alright to use many "DEATH"s without thinking of death if some of Death Metal bands also chose their style just to differentiate themselves rather than driven by the feeling about death. But I don't know the Death Metal well. MAKUHARI MESSE:- Makuhari Messe (幕張メッセ) is a Japanese convention center outside Tokyo, located in the Mihama-ku ward of Chiba city, in the northwest corner of Chiba prefecture. Designed by Fumihiko Maki, it is accessible by Tokyo's commuter rail system. Makuhari is the name of the area, and Messe is a German language word meaning "trade fair". •Owner: Makuhari Messe, Inc. •Opened: 9 October 1989. •Expanded: October 1997. •Classroom-style seating: 304 (International Conference Room). •Banquet/ballroom: 1,600 (Convention Hall). •Theatre seating: 7,860 (Makuhari Event Hall). Makuhari Messe is close to Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu, and to Chiba prefecture's black sand beaches. It is accessible from Kaihimmakuhari station on the Keiyō Line of East Japan Railway Company (JR East). The center is the host of the annual Tokyo Auto Salon (modified car show, in January), the biennial Tokyo Motor Show (in October), the annual Tokyo Game Show (video game hardware and software exhibition, in September), the annual Jump Festa (manga, anime, and video game exposition, in December), and the biannual Wonder Festival (toys, scale figures, and garage kits exposition, in February and July).
