Its a good testament to Shrek movie that despite missing out on a lot of western fairy tale stories that make up bulk of jokes they still enjoyed the movie. Because has great story and wonderful message.

@@dannyfreeman1776 What no! It’s a little emotional in the beginning but It’s lovely, clever and a LOT of fun. Better than Shrek who had so many of referenses unknown to them. Most movies have those moments… I think they appreciated Gladiator anyway, didn’t they?

In the original English, Donkey is voiced by actor and comedian Eddie Murphy. He was in "Beverly Hills Cop," "Trading Places," "Coming to America," and other popular films.

Some jokes they won't get I'm sure. Like the reference to the 70s show "the dating game". Of which they play the theme song. As soon as I heard that theme playing I knew exactly where they were going and laughed so hard the first time. Luckily it has a good plot and such so still makes it good to watch even if the regional specific jokes aren't relatable.

I would love to see them react to Spirited Away. Its not a Hollywood production but is Japanese. Any of Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki's movies are great and have great lessons. Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke are also top of the 'must-see' list.

Good choices. Porco Rosso, Final Fantasy: Spirits Within, Akira and Afro Samurai would also be cool. Though, I'd just sugested Rob Zombie's "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto"; that would be funny to see them react to! >XD

I love the bit where Shrek and Donkey are making fun of Lord Farquaad. Shrek: Let me put it to ya this way, Princess. Men of Farquaad's stature are in SHORT supply. Donkey chuckles- I don't know, Shrek. There ARE those who think LITTLE of him. 😁😅😂🤣☠️ Also, RIP Steve Harwell

They may be interested to see another animated film made by Dreamworks at the same time Shrek was being made: The Prince of Egypt. It has a completely opposite tone and is hand-drawn animation, and besides being a masterpiece I think it would give them a good understanding of the range of animation. Fun fact: the people who weren't suited to work on The Prince of Egypt got sent over to work on Shrek, so they really are kind of a dichotomy haha.

for some other notable animated movies consider : All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989) The Secret of NIMH (1982) An American Tail (1986) something a tad bit more mature would be Wizards (1977) which is set long after nuclear war in which magical creatures returned and an evil wizard is using technology to take over the world

am glad you loved the movie, it had a lot off English humour about size which has a double meaning depending on how you take it plus the fairy tale books, like snow white, little red riding hood, goldilocks and the 3 bears, 3 blind mice, and the 3 pigs and the big bad wolf, pinocchio. the gingerbread man, and so on, to fully appreciate the story. but if your unaware of those tales am glad you still enjoy it .

Since they don't have any context of the western fairy tales, they didn't comprehend any of the memes in this movie (I mean pinnochio, ginger-bread man, magic mirror on the wall etc. would just be "some cartoon" which they can't relate to). But I guess they still enjoyed the movie overall.

I actually really like watching their reactions to different movies. But in this instance I think Shrek may have been the wrong choice, for the simple reason that they have no idea about the other characters from children's stories and nursery rhymes and therefore were unable to appreciate it fully. I think something like Toy Story or Monsters Inc would be good to show them next time. Oh and how about Transformers for a next movie!

I seriously think you need to go further back in time with your films. A film like Shrek is going to totally miss the spot for the boys because they dont have the knowledge of western fairy tales, Disney Princess and films. The same goes for loads of films that stupid people are suggesting like Scary Movie or Hotshots. Unless you have the knowledge of Western cinema history and have watched the films the are mocking then those films are meaningless and the jokes just fall flat. Please don't just take recommendations from people in the RU-vid comments because youve heard of the film. Do a bit of research and have a think about it first. I love this channel but some of your recent film choices have really been strange.❤
