The original creator of Shrek and the author of that book only got $500k for giving up the rights to the character to Dreamworks. He definitely got the short end of that deal. Another interesting fact, Chris Farley was the original voice actor to play Shrek and there is even some concept art with some of his voiceover work out there and the art style is definitely more reminiscent of the storybook that the original author had illustrated.

But In the original kids book the donkey didn't talk, and the princess want an ogre. And in puss and boots tlw shreck was nowhere to be seen. So there is a Shrek multiverse!!! The shrek-verse if you will.
It's like they took Cinderella and made it into a movie. They took Pinocchio and made it to a movie. And maybe they're gonna do a live action. Shrek movie like it did to Cinderella. The little mermaid who knows and and they've been doing so much to to make it realistic and stuff. Actual people to play these parts. And they're doing a live action Moana movie. The Rock actually pit plays Maui. He voiced him in the cartoon. And now he's now he's actually playing Cam.
I remember the book being in our library in elementary school and me and my little friends would giggle at the part in the book where he calls the donkey a jabbering jackals.
This is a pure Gem and it's still original like Smash Brothers That multiversal plot is it's own thing these characters all have new experiences from it making it new and original in that way

Shrek is a movie that takes 4 1/2 years to make, due to the crew overwhelmingly trying to find the right actor to play as Shrek. While the animation of the movie is complete, Chris Farley was originally the voice of Shrek. He did record half of the lines but then he died in 1997. Later after his death, they requested Robin Williams to do the voice. But because of the fact that one of the founders of Dreamworks was the same guy who worked at Disney in 1990’s, working with that guy during the making of Aladdin was the LAST thing Robin Williams will do.

You do realize, almost all movies are based on books, games, and pictures, right? Harry Potter and How to Train Your Dragon are both based on the book series of the same name, and the emoji movie… do I need to say anything? Shrek seems to obviously be based on “Shrek!,” not to mention the book’s version of him matches Shrek’s original scrapped design.
That might be where they got the plot for the movie from it’s exactly the same thank you for telling us I’ve been researching this plot for about 3.5 years because in my attic I have that book I used to read it as a kid and that’s what got my interest in the subject
I’m a true 90s kid I was born in 1981 and I still never heard of Shrek until the movies came out It’s just not a book I ever heard about or seen anywhere growin’ up
Steven Spielberg bought the rights to Shrek! In 1991 planning on making an animated movie, eventually he brought the rights to DreamWorks in 1994 to make it a reality. Shrek the movie released in 2001, and had been in production for 4 and a half years beforehand. Everything fits.
I read this story in second grade, it was very different from the other stuff I was reading but I thought it was neat that I got to read the original story.
I always wondered if Shrek was the Ogre from The Flea. Every character like Pinocchio and Gingy are from original fairy tales. I assumed the vest that Shrek wears is the skin of that Flea. Because i don't know of an animal in the forest where Shrek lives that has skin like that.
And also did you guys know that when they were making the shrek movie they made a different shrek it wasn’t like the one we know in love, it was ugly for them so they changed it
