youtube captions are so funny to me. they can't decide on whether or not to censor swear words (they censor "motherfucker" but not "motherfucker's") but they agree on "shrexelent"
@@ARCtheCartoonMaster a valid criticism but they do something quite different with the plot. Plus just because something is a rehash doesn't make it a worse movie than one that has much less going for it, in my opinion
Not just royalty either - it happens with a government official in _HMS Pinafore_ , the opera by Gilbert & Sullivan. And let’s not get started on those damn Shelbyvilleans.
I did neurofeedback as a small autistic child and I vividly remember the lady monitoring my brain activity said that the best and most stable she had ever seen on me was when I was watching Shrek 2 and that the worst it had been was watching Shrek 4.
I think Shrek 4 was scary for some kids 👀 My sister didnt like it because she was afraid of rumpeltiltskin at the time (she's 15 now and still dont like him sksksks)
I once made a similar joke, where, in _Borat_ when he says not a single lizard will survive the war in Iraq, I commented on the RU-vid clip, “At least married lizards will survive, right?”
Well, that would explain why Rumpy looks different in the 4th movie - he looks like he was designed to be voiced by Paul McCartney, much like how a lot of characters in big budget animated films are designed after their VAs (e.g. Robin Williams as Genie, James Woods as Hades, Ed Wynn as the Mad Hatter, and even Donkey kinda looks like Eddie Murphy just a bit).
I still remember when shrek 4 was JUST released, they were selling shrek cups at mcdonalds and my lil 4 year old brain immediantly thought "oh my god i need one of these in my life" despite not knowing what shrek was or even seeing any of the movies yet, i never got one (i feel like it's because my older brother was afraid of shrek) but boy howdy would it have been epic if i did
Bro the fact that you were 4 when the LAST Shrek movie was released is making me feel old, bc like I was around that age when the FIRST one came out. Like I remember seeing it on DVD as a little girl and everything
The best part in Shrek 3 is when Shrek is held in chains beneath the stage and the cyclops apologizes for mistreating him but he wanted to impress his cyclops daughter. Always makes me emotional 💕
Shrek 4 does NOT deserve the slander the reviews put it through. True that Shrek was kind of an asshole and literally made a deal with the devil just to not have his kids anymore, but at the same time, right after the sequence where he walks around and terrorises the village he realises just how much he fucked up, his best friend doesn't know who he is, the land is one big dystopia, and the person he loves the most in the world starts off despising him. It was absolutely emotional and I have never once NOT cried during it. THE FINAL SCENE WHERE FIONA HOLDS HIS BODY AS HE LITERALLY THANOS-SNAPS AWAY AND HE GIVES HER THE PLUSHIE SHAPED ME AS A PERSON. Not to mention how big of an upgrade it had in the visual department, it was gorgeous.
Agreed!! Besides he only made the deal for one day. He was stressed and angry and wanted a break to go back to his old solitary life, then go back like nothing had happened. Also I love that they changed Rumplestiltskin from his Shrek 3 appearance that movie doesn't exist if we don't acknowledge it
listen, guys, Princess Diana wasn't killed, she was transported to the Shrek universe to become the trans icon we all needed (ignoring the fact Prince Charming was an absolute douchebag lmao)
Fiona's parents were shocked that Fiona married Shrek and that they were ogres, but if they didn't know that, how did they send the proper invite to shrek's place
Presumably they weren't sure of Fiona's exact location, the messenger people probably had to ask around for it and some people who knew her and Shrek directed them to the swamp. Either that or it's a plot hole.
I honestly don’t see why people think shrek 4 is bad? I LOVED that movie growing up, and the story and all is pretty emotional at times. Yeah shrek 3 was an…experience, though
I think it was mainly franchise fatigue. Most of us who watched Shrek as a kid were cynical highschoolers /college students by then. Also, since you mentioned "Shrek III", that movie made people assume that the next one was a shameless cash grab, like Disney's direct to video sequels.
10:15 Fun fact: in this movie, Merlin is voiced by Eric Idle, who played Ko-Ko in that 80s TV production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s _The Mikado_ . I bring this up because “Merlin’s beard!” is the catchphrase used by Professor Slughorn in _Harry Potter_ , who’s played by Jim Broadbent, who played Gilbert in the film _Topsy-Turvy_ , which is about him and Sullivan working on _The Mikado_ . Isn’t that a funny coincidence?
Since I am the 2nd person to see this shrek related video, I have a duty to do. Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed She was looking kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb In the shape of an "L" on her forehead Well the years start coming and they don't stop coming Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running Didn't make sense not to live for fun Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb So much to do, so much to see So what's wrong with taking the back streets? You'll never know if you don't go You'll never shine if you don't glow Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid And all that glitters is gold Only shooting stars break the mold It's a cool place and they say it gets colder You're bundled up now, wait 'til you get older But the meteor men beg to differ Judging by the hole in the satellite picture The ice we skate is getting pretty thin The water's getting warm so you might as well swim My world's on fire, how about yours? That's the way I like it and I'll never get bored Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid All that glitters is gold Only shooting stars break the mold Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show, on get paid And all that glitters is gold Only shooting stars Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas? I need to get myself away from this place I said, "Yup" what a concept I could use a little fuel myself And we could all use a little change Well, the years start coming and they don't stop coming Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running Didn't make sense not to live for fun Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb So much to do, so much to see So what's wrong with taking the back streets? You'll never know if you don't go (go!) You'll never shine if you don't glow Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid And all that glitters is gold Only shooting stars break the mold And all that glitters is gold Only shooting stars break the mold
The scene in Shrek the the 3rd where the princess infiltrate the castle in a fighting sequence that has Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin is both seared into my brain and the greatest fight montage in cinematic history (drag evil step sister absolutely included)
7:45 Seeing these images of Puss doing that face reminds me of that “actor playing real person vs. real person at the end of movie” meme. Also, when Puss does the face in Donkey’s body, he kinda looks like Miriam from _Turning Red_ .
3:38 The version I watched growing up was only 86 minutes long. No, they didn’t cut anything - rather, the Australian VHS version is slightly sped up because it’s in the PAL format. It also happens with DVDs, even though they’re digital, since they were originally formatted for the old tube TVs, but luckily it never happens with Blu-ray or streaming.
I’ve never been a fan of the Shrek movies so I don’t really know why I decided to watch this video. I think I only watched the first movie, maybe I also watched the second movie idk because the only memory I have from these movies is that scene where they’re eating dinner at Fiona’s castle and she burped.
@@rosykindbunny1313 I love how straightforward and confident you sound in your answer, and as a Shrek fan you should be. Fiona in fact DID burp in Shrek 2 during the dinner table scene where she finally returns to the palace to greet her parents with Shrek, only for your majesties to realize that Fiona is still an ogre and has an ogre husband, which leads to an all out food fight between the king and Shrek resulting in a sad Fiona and a disappointed Queen.
2:07 thank you for using a picture of Orlando bloom as the Duke of Buckingham so that I can now think about cinematic masterpiece the three musketeers (2011) for the rest of the day
I feel like i should say, i went to universal studios and walked to donkey. He mentionedhaving a husband meaning donkey is canonically bisexual. My personal headcannon is donkey is bisexual and dragon is a gay trans man
I’m really surprised how many people either hate on Shrek 4 or think it’s just ok. No, it’s not just ok, it’s BRILLIANT. Just when I thought the franchise could only go downhill after the third movie, the forth dropped, as well as my jaw.
I’m gonna be honest, Shrek 3 actually SLAPPED. Maybe it’s just because it started my love for Arthurian media as a whole, but I personally like it more than Shrek 2. Only crime was that they didn’t have Galahad cameo as a younger student in the Camelot high school scene.
Although Shrek 3 was far from my favorite in the franchise, I honestly don't see where the hate is coming from, it's the weakest in the line up to me but it's not a complete abomination like people say
3:25 I’ve always used “BS” and “AS” to mean “before suffrage” and “after suffrage”. For example, we’re currently in the year AS 102 by that metric, though by this one here it would be AS 21.
Actually I'm in the process of creating an actual shrekcore aesthetic that involves fairy tale stuff and whatever guy fieri's aesthetic is I need help making a pinterest board for it actually. Not enough guy fieri core Update: still can't find the name of the smash mouth aesthetic
5 year old me didn’t realize Arthur was Fiona’s cousin and was confused why her mom didn’t just rule the kingdom so I got really scared that Arthur was marrying her mom so when she died he would rule.
Oh god the puss in boots weed joke scene. I am forever tainted after having to behold with my own eyes a Tumblr post that claimed the cops planted the weed on Puss. Like bro. It’s already a parody sequence of Cops, they are not putting a before its time topical joke about the cop planting weed on Puss. The area/“the cop’s pocket” that they claim the cop pulled it from was just a shadow/shadow texture. And for godsakes Puss literally admits that he had it on him naught but 1 second later with the “it’s not mine I was holding it for a friend” joke line. I am forever scarred at just how much of a bad take that Tumblr post was and the replies full of idiots that agreed with the OP instead of using their brains and critical thinking skills.
Watching Shrek two in my Positive Growth Class as a treat, my teacher had the audacity to pause just before the Fairy Godmother says her diet is ruined.
"Shrek 5 is gonna be a passing-of-the-torch or Logan kind of story" I know this was probably written as a meme, but danm I would watch both, particularly the second choice.
How did no one comment on the fact that only a few months after Fiona was rescued by shrek, charming showed up.... meaning in shrek 4 she wouldn't have stayed locked up for too much longer.... meaning charming would have rescued her..... it's such a big plot hole....
What I love about this movie the most is that it avoided the Cliché of the Beast falling in love at first sight for the Beauty, because Sheek didn't care about the beauty of human Fionna, he liked DESPITE being a pretty princess and not because of it. The twist of the Beauty turning into a Beast was refreshing because is always the other way around.
I watched Shrek 3 all of once, in theaters when it came out, and all I remember besides Fiona being pregnant, the baby nightmare that Shrek had, and the half-donkey half-dragon abominations, is this one line that Arthur said, something about not wanting to be king, or something (don't remember the exact words), and I mostly remember it bc we had this one McDonald's toy of Arthur where if you press the button it said that specific line, and I remember it being a meme of sorts between me and my sister, but when we saw the movie the actual delivery of the line felt underwhelming, it didn't feel like the iconic line the toy led me to believe it was
I have two requests (not sure if you do them but figured I’d throw my hat into the ring) the first being the Pirates of the Caribbean series, the second being all the 101 Dalmatian films, animated, live action, their sequels and prequel remake.
shrek 4 is pretty good in my opinion its not as good as the first one and definitely not a match against the second one but its better than the third one and thats okay with me :) (also other Fiona is my hero)
i have the shrek 2 cd and it's literally my favorite childhood movie, i watched it so many times and played the far far away idols game so many times i might as well have the entire thing memorized by now
I feel like I have to watch the Shrek movies again. The last time I watched them was like 5 or 6 years ago. I was over at my friends house, and we had them playing on loop for the whole night.
Shrek 4 is underrated‼️‼️ it’s genuinely an amazing send off to this iconic trilogy (shrek 3 doesn’t exist wdym) IT IS AMAZING AND I HATE EVERYONE FOR HATING IT!!! It’s so emotional and grrrr just re watch it and reconsider 😭😭😭
I have a problem with some of these reviews. They seem to be under the impression that Mongo is dead. I saw Shrek 2 for the first time recently (great movie) and Mongo isn't dead! At the end, he's still alive in the water! SOMEBODY HELP HIM!
The music in the background sounds like it’s from Super Mario Maker. Also, Shrek Forever After is a genuinely underrated gem and it deserves to have more positive ratings than the Shrek equivalent of Cars 2 that is Shrek the Third.
