The context of these skits are that Tim and Eric were so sick of Shrek the Third's marketing they decided to make their own counter advertisements. Quite admirable.
Chris is perfect for this project because he did a voice on Shrek 2 and he knows the whole system and how it goes and the comedy and the different timing for animation
Can't believe it's been so long since Shrek the Third "swamped" the box office! Such a genre-defining film that really turned the industry on it's head. The way it looked introspectively at movies and film in general changed the way a lot of people saw movie-making. A masterpiece like this comes once in a generation, once for a form of media even. Sequels are almost never as good as the first, let alone a third installment, but the Shrek franchise manages to top itself nearly every time. This work of art will always have a special place in my heart. Go Shrek!
They confirmed in a stream that Dreamworks had no involvement, they’d sometimes just put out ads as jokes. They did similar stuff for Papa Johns and Red Lobster.
"you know, Shrek has been a part of our lives for 6 years now, and to see a third installment coming out is just..... " -Tim Hidecker I could not agree more
This was such an amazing bit, I remember it confusing the hell out of people when they were doing it, but I loved it so much. So overwrought, so much transparent and hokey. I definitely can not recommend this video enough. I say make a tradition out of, get the whole family in on out, you're guaranteed to share some laughs and have a good time. Now let me continue to tell you how much I love this sschraaack crap every day for the following month.
+Daniel Williams Replacing words that rhyme with ogre with "ogre" is not something created by the meme; it's been a thing in Shrek marketing since the beginning.
Jake TVSalesman their style of editing is mimicked an awful lot, their absurdist humor is still echoing through RU-vid, their sketches and songs are basically ripped off by youtubers, some of the channels i can think off are h3h3, Sam Hyde and deathtrips, the thing is tho, its all just underground humor and will always be that, only the surface doesn't notice who pioneered it
Sounds like Disney hit it out of the park again! Paramount pictures should keep up the good work. I'm gonna get Sheri the Third today at BlockBuster! THANKS TIM &ERIC!
I missed the whole Shrek train when it originally rolled through so now I'm trying to catch up. Really excited for this one, it really looks full of enthusiasm!
The goal of making Shrek The Third #1 at the box office was a truly ambitious one, but Tim & Eric and most importantly the fans were able to put the green guy ogre the top.
It would be awesomesauce to have Grum (see 9:16) make a sweet cameo and say something really positive about Shrek 3, as if he's taking a vacation from his typically "grum"py attitude and completely unaware that anyone might consider him a much more minor and insignificant green ogre.
I heard Tim say on his podcast that they made this after seeing so many ads for Shrek 3 around LA. They hated it so they went back to their studio and filmed this. As a movie fan, this is accurate for really bad movies. I think studios over promote them because they know it'll suck and they want to compensate for the loss.
I only feel a little messy when thousands of tiny spider babies burst from my skin and leave web all over my bed. But then I remember what a beautiful, natural thing birth really is, and how honored I am to accept the love of my life's brood pouch every morning.
