I love seeing these machines actually do something, it's entertaining and educational at the same time. It gives way more insight on how things were actually done and gives more insight on how it all was operated, more than when the machines just run without any purpose. Great video once again, thanks! :)

Fred Dibnah would be proud! We have steam shows and threshermen's conventions like this here in the states as well.

Steam: Making the Earth flatter since 1800! Nah looks like a great show that. Had perfect weather too. Loving the mining/crushing layout. Very different that.

I love steam fairs. I was taken to one in yorkshire when I was young and it was an amazing experience. I've ended up working for a heavy engineering company so it must have had some effect. There's an annual steam fair at Errol up near Perth where we lived. Great day out for the family. My son, having been to a few is now obsessed with steam. He's moved on to liners mostly but still completely obsessed. Great to fuel the passion for another generation. Luv and Peace.

It reminds me of Rollag, I went there last (2017) labor day to see all the old stuff. The saw mill was the main attraction as far as people watching.

@ 2:21 that is the first time i have ever seen a steam tractor with rubber tires.:) it works .:) loved the merry go round(thats what we call em in the states .) i belive you call them a round about over there. ive always wanted to attened a show like that . :)
@bingola45
@bingola45 4 года назад
That's a 'set of gallopers', although all round rides are also known as 'roundabouts' or 'merry-go-rounds'. American gallopers are known as 'Carousels', and go the other way. Sometimes that word is wrongly used for a British set. There's a type of traffic island known as a roundabout, too. It's seemingly unknown in the New World.
@allanegleston4931
@allanegleston4931 4 года назад
@@bingola45 we have roundabouts (we call them traffic circles or rotarys here ) ( side story, one time my late mum and i were visiting a uncle and his wife in boston usa, and he asked if we knew about a rotary, roatary is also a service .org here and world wide , late mum said yes its a service .org.) uncle explained what that was . we out west now have them in some spots as part of "traffic calming efforts".
@bingola45
@bingola45 4 года назад
@@allanegleston4931 They are fine when traffic is moderate, and even for each direction. We are starting to see traffic signals installed on them, to try and ease overloading.

So it would appear from a Google search. Was he related to the 19th century Marcus Forney who invented a kind of locomotive that bears his name?

It's really fun to see that nobody gets hurt by those dangerous machines with many uncovered moving parts and hot steam, while people nowadays need labels that say "caution, hot coffee may cause burns" or "don't iron your clothes while you wear them" or "remove child before folding the stroller"

No doubt, but given the UK market price for a serviceable traction engine, maybe a good option. Nobody owns a road steam engine to make a profit!
@jekimb
@jekimb 6 лет назад
I can imagine! UK engines of any kind just look like museum pieces with all those extras! The US liked their engines rugged and simple looking to cut down on price with all the mass production it seems.

May I please know the name/make/model/year of that first locomotive that looks like the inside of a watch? That's a beautiful mechanical piece of art!
@internationalsteam
@internationalsteam 6 лет назад
It's a 1990 built replica of the first steam locomotive constructed at Coalbrookdale by Richard Trevithick, some 26 years before Stephenson's Rocket. It normally lives at the Blists Hill Museum at Ironbridge. Indeed it is a wonder to behold and was the star of the show. The gauge is 3 foot.
@markpenrice6253
@markpenrice6253 6 лет назад
If Chris Barrie's "Britain's Greatest Machines" episode covering locomotives is to be believed, it's literally just called "the Coalbrookdale locomotive", and it's actually at *least* Trevithick's second attempt at an automotive/locomotive device (I can't remember if any of his roadgoing models went before it, but he did make one other rail-riding one earlier). Coalbrookdale being the place now better known as "Ironbridge"... The man is one of our less often lauded steam motive power pioneers, who but for a few incidents of bad luck and a less restrictive legal climate in the UK could have had even more direct influence on the history of transport and seen things progress much earlier than they ultimately did. Steam buses could have been a regular site on the roads even before the railways really got going, in fact.

If you're ever in the North East of England and near a city called Newcastle upon Tyne, there's a 'living museum' called Beamish. Visit the museum and you'll be taken back over a century in time and you can actually have a ride in a rail wagon pulled by a replica engine. www.beamish.org.uk/explore-discover/1820s-pockerley/
