Don't get carried away, my friend. I doubt anyone will ever achieve what Lata Mangeskar achieved. Not in my life time and not in yours. Shreya Ghoshal only tried to emulate Lata and in MHO she failed here. To appreciate a song it has to be performed in its full entity otherwise do't bother. I would really to to see her singing 'Naghmaon sher ki' from the film Ghazal, in its fullness. I do congratulate her on winning the competition but let's not doing on the backs of past artistes. By the way there is no such thing as ' an upcoming legend'. Let her walk first before we ask her to run. No offence intended.

You can search for all her achievements on google , you will get to know. She follows the path of lata ji , asha ji etc . That is why she is after all of them . 😊
Most of people here, commenting like expert. People should respect every musician. This video is not uploaded for comparing two great singers. She has sung different from original song with her own classical nuances. This is tribute to Lata Ji !!
This is a tough song. Shreya made a good attempt with some of her own improvisations. There is no point copying the original exactly nuance for nuance. Shreya is a singer in her own right, and deserves respect for her work. To me, this is just Shreya's version of the song, and since I have heard Lata's version, I prefer Lata's over this.

The original song recorded by Lata Mangeshkar was in the studio, where there is facility for a retake in case something goes wrong while singing. so the recorded song will be without any flaw. Here, Shreya is singing that song on stage without any facilities which are available in a studio. So you can't compare Shreya's singing with that of Lata Mangeshkar.
Shreya is one of the best today. Lata is a legend- the greatest of all times. Her music directors were also deft in the art of putting her talent to best use. Show me a single one today who has given a song as melodious and immortal as "Ye Zingagi usi ki Hai".

She is surpassing LATA JI. it is a fact and should be accepted without hesitation. One thing I should say....like it's my opinion..... Shreya is only one who has made me fall in love with Lata Ji's voice....in my childhood I used to believe that it's very boring....but as I grown up and started lata Ji's songs in Shreyas voice......That moment I blown away bcz shreya's voice connected these beautiful melodies directly to my soul as she is my most most most favourite singer..For me she is like lataji's daughter....And I started listening lataji 's melodious and up-trained voice with honey filtering like soft waves......And now lata Ji's place in my heart is beyond the top most position 😅 I would say..... And apart from that moving on her singing techniques or skills while singing lataji's song... First thing is that no one can do better justice with Lata Ji's songs as shreya does.. atleast in current era.. Although there are so many beautiful, melodious, legendary singers but they have their own style... Shreya is the only one can excel after lataji...not as much but.... And another thing is that... Shreya got opportunities mostly in High range songs although she is mastered in all 3 registers, as in lataji's era she has mastered or I would say she was the school....she was the only on peak just bcz of her singing and at that time mostly songs were classical and composed in high range and low range... that's why lataji got more flexible in all 3 registers And they used to rehearse the songs for 2-3 days intially as she grown up she did not need to do that......and also time does matter and also the music directors and composer.. That's why here shreya ji couldn't sing aa much as lataji can....if she would be in that era she would definitely be the 2nd top singer after lata ji as she is only on no 1... 😊

I feel people who say things like better than original or voice is more sweet than lata song,probably did not listen to original song. No comparison...soul of song,its deep pathos immaculate diction and crystal clear notes were missing. People compare if you sinv a classic . I feel people just have heard lata from 80s 90s songs and think why the hype. She is sheer talent and her best songs are from her younger days...here shreya sang sur mein but missed soul of the song. Please listen to original after listening to this and then comment.😢

lata is lata and shreya is shreya; just because someone was a great singer once, it shouldn't mean no one should attempt to sing their songs...afterall, imitation is the best form of flattery; this girl has a god given gift of a lovely voice; i don't understand why people don't just enjoy her music without getting into the trivialities of comparison;
ghumanharj i wasn't all that big a fan of lata whose voice came across as too high pitched to my ears; i always derived more pleasure listening to geeta dutt, asha bhonsle, suman kalyanpur and sudha malhotra whose voices had more body to it; however, lata has a huge fan base and my experience is that the celebrities fan base of You-tube doesn't take kindly to even mildly censuring comments about their idols; no doubt lata has rendered some great songs that will remain classic for ever but as she got older, i think her voice became too shrieky for my personal taste;

They are not just singer but pure entertainers as well. Look at Honey Singh - his music is refreshing and original but all these so called crtics will never think of it as music even though most of their children listen to it.
