Hey Guys. In this video, I try to make sense of an ongoing discrepancy in the Rock world regarding a pesky, Reinforced Falsetto scream that doesn't get the technical definition it deserves, and, I argue for the need to have a word that defines the sound in fewer words than the current go-to "Like Rob Halford" that we use to evoke the sound in the mind of the people we're talking to
Hope you all find value in this video, many thanks!
Below are a list of the most well known Shrillers, that I've been able to find:

Just discovered this channel and yeah I also struggled with explaining this. I think shrieking is also a good term

Hey man as a fellow musician I just discovered this channel and these breakdowns are amazing. Are you interested in making one on Fabio Lione from Rhapsody? I find his blend of styles very interesting. He seems to have developed some crazy high pitch screams as well, since 2010, look up his performances with Angra he's really pulling off something with those high notes. I'm no singer so I can't vouch for how legit his technique is, but I always found him amazing.

Yo, Static, welcome back!! I loved this bit of enlightenment on the scream, I always called it wailing though, to me Roger Daltrey's powerful Wail on the song Won't Get Fooled Again is a primal force that few other singers in the rock genre at the time could replicate, I would really love to hear your "Wail", you have a powerful singing voice, like that of an opera singer, I think with age comes experience and knowledge of the subject we all love so much, with so many legendary moments in the history of metal getting a compilation of the best Wailers would be interesting!!😮

Thanks, Lobo! Always popping up almost straight away when I upload a video 🤘😈 I think Wailing was definitely the best we had 'till now! Although, I found many people still use it interchangeably. I'll hopefully be doing another one of my "Facecam" mini breakdown's on myself soon, as I've been gigging alot with Paradigm, and Tempest Saint lately. I'll be sure to add Roger Daltrey to the list in the description! Could definitely do a compilation video, I certainly have enough footage of all the greats from my singer breakdowns. Thanks for your continued support, mate

Happy shrilling! 🤘 You're definitely on to something here (as usual). The technique is also called power metal screaming, but that, though more recognizable, is restrictive.

This comment made me smile, thank you for the kind words! I also called it the Power Metal scream for a long time, because it's the main subgenre that still uses it, but since the recent resurgence of 70s Rock, and Classic Heavy Metal, it's made a bit of a comeback, and I thought it'd be nice if we had one word that might give the scream a better sense of individual identity

Don't forget Tobias Sammet, Midnight of Crimson Glory, Ralf Scheepers, Jorn Lande and Alessandro Conti from the younger generation, among others.

It's impossible for a man to hit an E5 using purely the M1 vocal mechanism. Its a supported falsetto, or mixed voice, or, as this video aims to define, a "Shrill"
@dominysynclair

@@StaticYonder I agree, mixed. Sometimes it was hard to tell with Ian though.
