To those who don’t know Grits is a huge part of black culture and coming from a black man Cowboy Kent did a fantastic job with the shrimp and grits everything was so on point and me and my family just watched and our mouths are watering as I type... Great content Uncle Kent 💯👌🏽

Grits is not necessarily a Black thing. In fact white people in the South love grits just as much. Whether it's grits, or polenta. It's all ground corn. Just grounded different. I think if people just knew what it was then, there would not be so much confusion. All through the south, I find grits is on the breakfast menu. Most northeners like cream of wheat, because it's what most grew up with.in my home my mom cooked the slow cooked grits, not the instant grits. I never had the instant till I was an adult. Funny how I see some people add sugar and milk, my mom, my grandmothers would of fainted. I say to each his or her own. I'm still learning. Growing up my mother wanted us to have a good breakfast that would hold us till lunchtime. Both my parents worked but going to school, if my mom had to be at work before we caught the bus, we would wake to grits still hot on the stove, with whatever meat she had fixed, there was biscuits. In the winter hot cocoa. She would leave about six fifteen. Now there's cold cereal, toast not many get to eat a hot breakfast anymore. The weekends was the only time we had cereal. It's funny how some up north can't even get certain kinds of flour. So I guess it is possible they never had grits. True most southerners know about grits. I didn't say this to argue or disagree. But every white house hold I know in the South ate grits, they wasn't just for breakfast either. They was reasonable, most found it a way to feed their family and it was filling. I laugh when I hear people say they don't like grits. I ask if they love corn. They get it. Bless you and your family. I've eaten grits all of my life. Especially on cold mornings, they warm me up. They are good. 🙂✌️💖🖖🙏. Vee, Andrew and Family.

I never ate grits until I was in the navy. I was driving from New Mexico to Key West with my brother as we both headed to training. We stopped in a little Mom n Pop restaurant and the waitress, a really sweet black lady, asked me if I wanted grits. I asked her, What’s a grit? I fell in love with her immediately because she bent over the counter and kissed me on the forehead and said, “You poor child. If your mama didn’t feed you grits, you had a deprived childhood!” In fairness, my mom fed us cornmeal mush pretty often so I wasn’t deprived too bad! Blessings y’all!

We both knew little of each other’s cultures and asked lots of questions. She’s gonna be with me for a lot longer than I imagine she lived. But that’s how a little kindness can affect a life for much longer than we think.

Sooooo good!!!! Southern gal here, and the only thing I'd add is, after sautéing the veggies halfway in drippings, add the butter; sprinkle all with flour and cook just long enough to remove raw taste, then slowly add the broth, stirring. Makes a lump-free roux, and eliminates you stove standing and dirty pot cleanup!! Good job Kent. Will have to play catch-up to find out about those adorable puppies(grown, by now).

Kent, I'm from SC and I'd be glad to do a throw down on grit cooking. I make the best ones anyone has had in my family of grit haters. I stand behind that. Fresh raw stone ground grits. Lots of cream, some water and a bunch of white cheddar...with some garlic, salt and white pepper. Plus a low and slow for hours and hours. Silk on the throat and tongue. This is the one and only thing that I am sure of that beats the best. LOL How's about it? I throw down the gauntlet. LOL Of course we won't get to but I'd sure love to tell you the right way to do them. LOL

Okay, I have a confession to make. Yes, I'm a southerner, but I am not a big grits fan. I was always raised around instant grits only. We never had the original/homemade kind in our house. However, when it comes to shrimp and grits, I am all for it. It's something about the flavor of the shrimp and grits together, with the sauce and the peppers, onions, etc., all mixed in together that just makes it so much more better. Grits are the worst thing I've ever eaten, but without the other combinations of shrimp and grits, I'll do without.

There's a little place here that had a booth at the local farmer's market and would do crepes, grits, and a few other breakfast items. Well, one day a friend of mine asked if they could combine grits with some of the crepe ingredients for her - things like bacon pieces, onions, collard bits, shredded cheese, that sort of thing. Well, it got so popular that they ended up adding this "grits bowl" to their regular menu!

Shannon, My son is at my home on a visit from his group home for a few days.....and he was so excited to see Kent wearing the same apron that he got from yinz store for his birthday. We love shrimp and grits. I have all the items, he wants to make it just like Kent, so that is on the menu for tomorrow. Thank you for this video! It was perfect timing. As always, I thank yinz for being there and giving my son a hobby/interest in his life.

Wow! Texas Shrimp & Grits. Just in time, to use that 2lb bag of shrimp cleaning out the Freezer before they turn the power out on us. Your recipe's, are always so good, and your personality always lift's a persons spirits. Though sometimes life get's pretty hard, seeing what is coming, and going thru this world all alone.

All the pats on the back and tips of the hat y'all get are truly well deserved but, along with that I thank you for the fine choices of music included. Very enjoyable.

I got so excited about you showing off one of the favorite products from Pampered Chef. The Food Chopper is so much fun to use in the kitchen. Anyway, I was so excited that I made my first comment using my other channel that I haven't started up yet before I realized it. 🤦😁 I was able to switch back to my other channel to delete that comment though. WOOHOO! Thank you, Kent and Shannon, for putting one of my favorites in this video!
