I just think this info is the hard info to find...only experience and chatting with others over the years, seem to gain this type of info. As for ideal conditions...that info is all over, and people stick to it religiously and don't seem to just take a loss or two now and then... they assume one shrimp dies and they need to do an 80% water change or add chemicals. Just low and slow...chill. I swear, the more i forget about my shrimp, the better they do

The Secret History Living in Your Aquarium I have been told the tigers will outbreed and be more aggressive then the cherries but my TT’s are still new and I had to move them all (including the cherries) out of my cray tank because of predation so I’m not sure yet. I am rebuilding my badly decimated colony. (The tigers were new to the tank. i never got a chance to really see them breed in that cray tank.). I find them to be kinda shy right now, outnumbered still by the cherries.

Totally! And usually people keep the origin a secret...or don't even know how they made it...but if you get 2 sharing the colors or patterns we like....then it can usually be selected and line bred! I have dark dark blues that i crossed with jades a year ago.... and one batch had orange eyes, navy blue body and a pink or gold razorback AKA , "gold line" ...to my surprise all their babies where black with white eyes and a pink line down their back haha...it lasted about 2 or 3 rounds of babies and then the color was back to a normal dark blue....that's a lot of the run, in my opinion. Generally true! Especially with neocaridina....they're more prone to fungal infections slightly, but i think its worth keeping them at 78 personally

The Secret History Living in Your Aquarium Oh yeah, I probably should have clarified that I meant for neos! I think most other shrimps also have the same reaction to higher temps, but their ideal ranges are probably a little different. I’ve heard people say that too high of temperatures can cause fungal or bacterial diseases, but I keep my neos at ~78 and I’ve never had any issues. I also keep two smaller colonies unheated at about 70 and they don’t breed even half as fast as my warm colony, so I think I prefer keeping them warm.

@@benblassingourami984 yes, ive had similar results for the most part. Although in a shallow tank with high tannins and about 300tds (mimicing a late summer Taiwanese mountain creek) seems to also work as low as 72 for me...but thats way too much work... 75 is the magic number for where they produce over and over...otherwise ive seen that females will berry up...often abort the clutch and have one clutch every 6 months or less, and all staggered .. when at room temp in like a nano desk 5 gallon. All that said, my outdoor pond neos produce enough to keep an ever slightly growing number of shrimp in Seattle weather.

I had molting problems at 80 degrees but knocking it down a bit helped

@The Secret History Living in Your Aquarium I'm not sure they're going to be an addition; they might just be the centrepiece and then I'll plan everything else to fit in with them. A school of small fish, some snails, LOTS of plants. (It's 125 litres / 33 gallons, so there SHOULD be room for shrimp and a small schooling fish. The plants are there to make it look pretty, but everything else doesn't need to be big and flashy; as long as there's interesting behaviour that's really all I need.)

Totally, theh aren't an issue....scuds can hunt a few baby shrimp and hydra really stress their immune systems out and wven kill new borns sometimes. However this is the perfect time to drop in a micro fish, chili rasbora, tinwini danio, cpd, badis etc let the adults eat the pests (and a few babies) and make sure to get male and female in there.... then a week later or 3 /4 days for danios, you pull out the fish and a month later you'll likely start to see little fry alllll over which will eat all the pests. Thats my system cycle in this tank

If I can answer u by my experience, you have to do water changes.... 20% per week will be good. No water change leads to bad water even if it looks okay.. fish don't talk to say they're not okay, surviving doesn't mean happy, maybe u never lost fish, neons are pretty strong (for example they should live in cold water but they survive in heated tank) but shrimps are verry sensitive.. I lost my ghost shrimp in 3 day I never knew why but my velvet, cherry and amano are good now.. 2 of my velvet died at first but the others are good. Be sure u don't have No3 Nh4 No2 and copper in your water.. copper is fatal to shrimps, No3 have to be in verry small amount, and for that u need water changes even if u have a lot of plants.. all tank even "No co2, no fert, no filter etc", need it. And not a high level of minerals (gh-kh). Anyway depending on which species u want to have, tchek their profile to see which GH is better for them. Also be careful with the way u acclimate them.. try to put a little bit of the water tank in the bag/bowl few times while an hour, so they can acclimate to your water parameters and temperature. It's a lot to think/do but it's the better and sure way to not loose shrimps... some are expensive so u don't want them to die. And mystery snail can be verry big, be careful 😁

@@Kat-hs2ij The water vapor off at about 10% weekly. I do water changes on my other tanks. I though maybe the shock of the water changes was to much on the shrimps. Plus my water testing always been good. My poopy cichlids get 2 aweek. I do check my well water not just for my fishy but us too. Lol I didnt know copper was deathly to them. Not alot on fine shrimp care. Dont disagree with the snail. He was a gift. Lucky for me only one. Dont need snail babys. Lol. Thanks for the input

You need a stronger air pump im guessing, or a sponge filter with a little power head/ outflow pipe...theyre very inexpensive on amazon. But also some plants go into shock if they were used to having flow and it stops...so you may need to trim back the dying leaves and let the plants re-aclimate.

Well the wilds generally mix with red for a generation or 2...just making low grade cherries or speckled red and clear/ rili style shrimp... but over time they all go to wild again... same with mixing most any color of the same species

I've had that exact combo of fish together and it worked except during feeding...but simply splitting some food at the top for the dwarf neons and some more on the other side for the shy-prone , furcatas worked well enough to keep it going.

@@Fishtory thank you! I got brave and put the furcata in the bigger tank. I did feed and gave some daphnia and also blood worms. Those furcata seem to have the dwarf rainbows confused right now LOL. But my tank is really active and alive with the addition of the furcata. The dwarf rainbows are so gentle and peaceful, i knew they wouldn't try to harm the furcata. I'll make sure i have crushed up flakes when i feed mixed with the regular flakes. I also have hakari micro pellets which everyone loves. You're still the best! The only other fish i have in that tank are my two remaining schwartzi after our brush with a disease last month. I lost six of them. All other fish were fine. So weird. I'm fortunate to have saved two of them!

and my problem now is that my neocaridinas are more than 1 week preggy and i was worried guppy fry would prey on them

It is unfortunately a fungus... hopefully it is not elobiopsidae (i may have the spelling incorrect, however it sounds like "L - O -Bi- Ops-Eh-Day) Usually its green or yellow, regardless- many fungus strains (mostly from bulk orders originating in asia) have recently taken hold in the population entering the USA ... there are a number of fungi out there, however if it is related to that or similar ones, there is no known cure and people usually advise quarantine the shrimp around the infected ones for a month .... then kill or quarantine those effected and literally bleach or hydrogen peroxide the tank/ start plants, filter and substrate all over again. It could fungal and less virulent, like a velvet type infection so try API fungal cure at half fish recommended dosages or something similar, first. But if they do not heal or if they die, save your colony and future shrimp, money and invertebrates and start over. This is why im willing to pay more and shop for shrimp only from places with 90 day quarantine now (used to be 30 but the new fungi is evolving and very sneaky). Aquatic Arts . Amanos! Definitely. They get up to 2 inches and eat their weight in algae every 12 hrs while still growing ... and are just tough enough to avoid any fish short of an Oscar or green terror

No, i actually do water changes, per the fish's needs...so rainbow fish or psuedomugils get 60% a week... that's the hardest shrimp tank, and i actually keep it changed 2x a week often- so that the pattern of sudden change IS routine...i found often a colony will die up to 40 to 50% in these extreme conditions...but if you start with enough (20 is ideal)... then boom you get generation 2 after a struggle, and they survive at an 80% rate or some such thing...and better and better...so those are my strongest shrimp when they get adopted and live in ideal conditions

I have only just gotten into the shrimp world adding shrimp with my fish, that's why I asked. But so far had every shrimp died (tries 3 different batches so far) But I think or at least hope I've found the problem, my local water is extremely low in ph and high metals. My dechloriner doesn't get rid of heavy metals. Time to change it and try again.

Oh so iron is fine, unless you see orange and red staining minerality levels.... but in doses for plants etc, its usually safe. Some tap water that comes out orange, is not however.. it is copper which is in plant pestacides and or fish meds that is a real killer. Avoid any copper ...copper sulfate specifically is the most common

Yes they can, they usually won't eat larger eggs, such as cichlids or perhaps even plecos/corydoras....but amano shrimp can even manage to eat 2mm or smaller eggs, where as cherry shrimp or neocaridina types, generally only eat smashed, moldy or super super tiny eggs, such as tetras, rasboras or badis. And even if they do munch on fish eggs...its usually a handful of eggs and not even 20% or more. (Off the top of my head)

I never clean the sponge too much, just gravel vac under it and on top of it, however only 2 of my tanks are only sponge- most have at least a small HOB on the far end. As for light, usually 8 to 10 hours total. 8 in the summer since ambient light also creeps in, however in winter with short days, ill run it 10 hours

Some of the sheds before females become berried can be super thick and look like a dead shrimp. I bet that's what happened

Anything over 68 to 70 seems to be fine. They reproduce fastest at 76 or so...but die about 6 months quicker...thus end up making a couple spawns less shrimplettes

Right on! It's a nice combo, thus far, i think they eat a couple babies but nothing major. How long have you done that combo? Im at 4 months with 10 in there...before for a year i had 5 in there and i wanted to increase mating chances

The Secret History Living in Your Aquarium I added about 7 very small Blue Dreams about 2-3 months and I now have about 12 adults but that’s because I lost literally tons of baby blue dreams due to relocating to a bigger tank. Only recently I started to see baby shrimp again. The combo seems to work pretty well. I’ve also considered doing panda loaches with shadow panda shrimp but that’s a future project 😎

Depends on the species, but that should be okay for most neocaridina and amano shrimp

Pretty much. There may be some exceptions but tds under 300 or 400 for neocaridina usually and under 150 or 200 for caridinia
