Just found your channel and really enjoy it. My Grandad had a caravan at Nether Wasdale and I spent all my school summer holidays fishing Irt, Esk, Ehen so it brings back memories. The run down to Dark Corner that I think. I kept on the caravan after he death but gave it up in my late 20s to focus on my local Ribble, Hodder and Lune iIv still friends in Gosforth Anglers, member of PA etc and always have a trip up each season. Your videos are making me think I should head up more often.
@@clintwaddington1996 the fishing locally ain’t what it use to be I put a lot of time in but can still have good days an nights occasionally. I’ve just joined gosforth anglers fantastic piece of water
Great little vid and smashing fish. Never heard of shrimping before. So many questions. Where do you get red dyed prawns ? Do you use and main weight to ledger the leader down, and if not then how do you cast the rig without additional weight ?
I have braid (30lb) to a swivel I attach a small amount of line to the swivel to hooks the shots (weights) then another longer line from the swivel to the pin/ treble. The trick is using the right amount of weight for the current in front of you, don’t want to be hitting them bottom but don’t want it well above there heads either. That’s the skill in the method
@@fieldsportscumbria it looks a fair sized river ..i fished mainly on the smaller River Ehen ,,Cleator - Ennerdale in my younger days ..just a beck really. now im in Denmark. ... keep up the good work & vids 👍
@@fieldsportscumbria just lokal pike / perch & plaice , makrel, hornfish & the odd cod & coastal seatrout ...im from Cleator Moor originally ..i used to do a bit o rabbiting & the likes back in my younger days.
@@fieldsportscumbria if youre allowed to keep female fish there, take the eggs out and tie them into colored mesh sacks about the size of a marble.very effective bait for salmonids both pacific and atlantic
@@squaretops1 just off the bottom and trot it round. Does depend on conditions though. Had fish before where I’ve stopped the prawn and dropped it just in front of their nose. Incredible to see how they react. Sometimes they give a little quiver, move off then come back and pick it up. Had them come up and roll on it and not pick it. It’s a killer method for sure
That's a real shame, but well done anyway on a fantastic Salmon! I hope you did justice to the Salmon in your kitchen. Years ago I had Salmon from a smokers that were from a friend's adventures, it was fantastic....
It’s a west Cumbrian river, not going to out right name locations plenty of people will know where that’s at. Thanks hopefully we get some rain soon an get more fish up the system.
@@user-zu6qn9ux9nAgreed, but as single anglers there is nothing we can do about that but on the riverbank we can. It goes against the grain that as game fisherman we can’t take a fish for the table but reality is reality and we need as many to fish to spawn as possible
What should be banned ? Yes I’ve been releasing fish for 15+ years, I am all for releasing salmon. Sometimes they simply do not go back. Held that fish in the water for 15 mins waiting for it to get strong and that didn’t happen so took it to eat. ✌️
It would have had a chance if it had been properly rested in the water as soon as it was netted. Should be standard practise for any hard fighting fish and all decent anglers know it and do it.
@@hg3389 released many fish over 15 years of salmon fishing, the video doesn’t show everything. Doesn’t show the 20 mins holding the fish trying to get it to swim away ….
