Shujinko was arrested for THIS...? 🤨 

This is one of most biggest hated moments in MK history Shujinko gets arrested for breaking curfew to a realm he is not even from and aged until he was a old man.

It's crazy how everyone hates shujinko. The man spent his entire life on a fake quest. Literally from a teenager to an old man. He's a pretty sad character

Shao Khan: (An honest tyrant.) Hotaru: (An asshole tyrant.)

Shujinko: "Ordinance? I just recently arrived, I had no knowledge of any ordinance." Hotaru: "UNACCEPTABLE! ONE MILLION YEARS DUNGEON!!!"

There's a reason Hotaru was on evils side in Armageddon, dude is the definition of Lawful Evil, he's basically a dictator type dude, all cool if you follow the laws but the second you slip get the shujinko treatment.

Hotaru: You entered without asking Shujinko: The door was literally open Hotaru: You started breaking the curfew Shujinko: I didn't know of any curfew existing Hotaru: YOU BETRAYED THE LAAAW

i remember this was a total curveball in the deception konquest story. everything was going reasonably straightforward AND THEN Shujinko got his ass locked up for decades for thinking Hotaru would actually be a better guy than Havik

And I love how when he returns to other realms no one else has aged, and side quests like getting a baker some flour are still open. "Thanks for that flour 40 years later, Shujinko. Now I can bake."

The worst part is after all of those years, when your court date arrives, Dairou breaks you out and then Hotaru is all like "You were gonna be found innocent. I was gonna testify in your defense!" Dude, you made him wait like 20 years so that you could tell a court, "Yeah, he should be acquitted,"? Go to hell Hotaru lol

And Hotaru had the nerve to lie to Shujinko afterwards talking about he was gonna vouch for him in court. Nah bruh you left him in a cell for years over a curfew. Y'all friendship been over after that.

i remember as a kid this actually made me kinda sad, he did nothing wrong and got imprisoned for like 20 years. all bc of a curfew lmao

You can only imagine how hilariously awkward it must've been for Damashi/Onaga to help Shujinko cope during all those years of imprisonment...

And hotaru also had the balls of telling him after his escape eons after his arrest that he was going to speak on his favor

You know I find this interesting, because shujinko has a good hearth so he never escaped from jail, and also the ammount of years he spent imprisioned shows how failed Seido's legal system is, keeping so many people impresioned resulting in it taking longer than they have to live just to get a trial.

Shujinko's story is the reason why I will always root for the character. You can't witness firsthand what this man went through and hate him.

If it was the Realm of Order, you would expect their trials to be lightning fast

The worse thing is that he was in prison that long awaiting his trial. So he didn't even get convicted.

Imagine Onaga, patiently waiting for his "agent" to complete the quest, then after a while learns that he got arrested and is locked up, so he's like "Goddammit, can this idiot get at least one Kamidogu without getting stuck somewhere? Oh well, shouldn't take long for his release I suppose," then he realizes that Shujinko is in Orderrealm, and is like "Oh for the love of god..." and some time later just sends Dairou to break Shujinko out. Btw, another bad part is that Shujinko at this moment (before the arrest) was trying to help people in Outworld, and when he was forced to be put in a village there, Kano explicitly told him that if he escapes, they'll kill a civilian, and since Shujinko was arrested by Hotaru not long after running out of there, guess what happened in Outworld in this time period...

"Your honor, if my memory is still as good as it once was, I believe that I have only JUST set foot in the Order realm and was not informed by ANYONE of the curfew-" "IGNORANCE IS NOT AN EXCUSE."

This was one of the most messed up things in Konquest mode. Shujinko told Hotaru about capturing a land in Outworld. Then he comes back Hotaru tells him he's breaking the law that he didn't know about. A warning would have been nice lol.

Shujinko had spent 46 years completing his quest to find the Kamidogu however 20 of those years he was imprisoned for disobeying a curfew he didn't know existed

If you think about it, Orderrealm/Seido is like Mortal Kombat equivalent to North Korea. In Konquest mode, we learn that Orderrealm is very dedicated to law and order, people there have no freedom (because according to Seidans/Orderrealmers: "freedom leads to anarchy and anarchy leads to sadness"), and people can be put in jail for years with no chance to defend themselves just because of a small infraction/crime. And Hotaru is a dictator personality guy, since he's very Lawfully Evil. That's very similar to North Korea, since people there also have no freedom and they're tied to law and order, and they can be killed/arrested for small insignificant crimes. Orderrealm/Seido is pretty much North Korea turned into a realm.

The most tragic part about it is that this is the part he loses his best looking design.

Jesus! This shows that too much order isn't a good thing as well. On a different note, I think it's a nice detail that while Shujinko spent a very long time in prison, it wasn't that long for people of the Orderrealm. Since they are long-living in a similar manner to Edenians, human decades are probably just a breeze to them, which is why the day of the trial came after so long.

Keep in mind, Shujinko was a deputized Seidan Guardsman, and with how slow bureaucracy is in the Realm of Order I doubt he was taken off their duty roster. So technically speaking he may have not needed to abide by the ordinance at all as I am pretty sure it's for civilians.

Shujinko was right to question their laws. Even Earth doesn't consider that so wrong.

This is that Midway Era storytelling. "Oh no, Shujinko was actually crucial to many events throughout Mortal Kombat's history. You just never saw much of him because he was in jail. For decades and decades."

Damn, imagine going through what Shujinko did and staying in prison for many years.

Hotaru: You betray the law! Shujinko: LAWWWWWGHH! Yeah Hotaru needs to get a whuppin' simply for this.

Wow... just wow. At least Havik gives you a chance by fighting him to earn your freedom...

This channel makes me feel so damn validated with the MK3D content. It feels like everyone forgot MKDA, MKD, and MKA existed but we grew up on them lol

This is the part where I felt so bad for Li Mei, she ended up staying enslaved along with her people in the one Outworld village. I really wonder who helped them after Shujinko got locked up for years. And I really hate Hotaru for killing her in that Armageddon intro too BTW.

Everyone so upset about Shujinko being unjustly imprisoned while I'm here being all like "Dude, you could've just turned sideways and walked through those bars at literally ANY time!"

Imagine being locked up until you get old just cause you decided to go for a walk lol

If Hotaru somehow makes it into the MK12 roster, I will give him every fatality I learn in the game since I didn't know the codes in Deception.

Not just arrested, also spent years in a jail he could have escaped from in about two seconds but was too dumb to realize it. No wonder Onagamashi hired Dairou.

That's why I prefer Havik over Hotaru, and another thing that I find very strange, in the cutscene where we're going to start the fight with Hotaru, he says he would testify in our favor(???) it's not like it wasn't because of HIM that Shujinko spent YEARS incarcerated(Sorry for the bad english)

My first reaction playing this part as a kid was "wtf I can't play Shujinko as a young man in that sick ass armor anymore?"

I always found it weird that Damashi sent Dairou to break Shujinko out of the pre-trial area by removing "obstacles" in his quest. So what about the "untold years", Damashi? That seems like a pretty big obstacle to me.

Crazy how Shujinko's entire quest was damn near a lie. I guess hence the name, Mortal Kombat: Deception.

I was so pressed when I played through konquest and this happened. I was like bruh for a curfew that he didn't even know?! And he told you what he was doing and all before hand. Like go fly off that cliff Hotaru.

I both love and hate this moment, it perfectly shows how severe the Orderrealm’s laws are in a practical way, but from a story standpoint it’s absolutely shit pacing and seems really out of nowhere and stupid, if this had been an “optional” mistake like actually showing up past a set curfew then it would have made more sense, but this moment is both effective in developing orderrealms law systems and ineffective and stupid in terms of ageing Shujinko to his final form Sidenote: in case you were wondering about what they could do to progress the story if you showed up within the curfew, make Shujinko break another law, maybe he attempts to leave without addressing Hotaru properly and Hotaru as a commander takes offence to it or some shite, just SOMETHING that isn’t this out of nowhere

Once Chaosrealm and Seido got involved, it was a losing battle. I actually predicted Hotaru would pull something like this when he basically said, "Yeah, I'm taking over this city because it's better under Seido law," instead of putting some Seido guards in a garrison nearby. When factions outright take over settlements to "protect" them, they're no better than gangs. Shao Kahn, evil blackguard he is, would've at least, in my opinion, respected the town if they had powerful fighters. At least with Shao Kahn, you know what you're getting. Seido would've had a law outlawing martial arts unless you're a part of the Seido army.

I remember this part frustrating me. As if Shukinko doesn't go through enough he has to spend at least a decade in jail. I really liked this story mode. I played the heck out of it as a teenager.

Dairou breaking that guards neck was the best thing to happen to Shujinko.

I shouldn't be surprised that a place called "Orderrealm" has extremly lengthy bureaucracy.

Bruh I forgot to mention in the previous videos comments that I hate Orderrealm for being too much like North Korea... bloody hell!

It makes perfect sense given the fact that it is the realm of order, a realm in which there only exist black and white (no grey areas), which gives the lesson of getting informed first regarding how the laws and the dynamics of a reality work before doing anything that breaks those patterns and might get you in trouble and ultimately cost you your life or complete existence 🤷. One thing for sure is that Shujinko became wiser than any living person on earth at his time in the MK universe by traveling to the different realms of his MK reality and gaining wisdom by experiencing and going through the different trials present in the different realms who proved to be an experience of a lifetime to be envied in a way by any other MK character.

Glad people are still playing these games, but yea this moment in konquest mode probably made everyone hate hotaru, he gets cut in half by kenshi anyways

I think if they add more in this scene something like how the order realm people ageing in slower pace or if it was really fast to the remaining of this realm it will make that much better

I wish we see more of Hotaru's extreme regimen on Orderealm more in the future

At the start of Mortal Kombat Armageddon, you have Sub-Zero vs. Scorpion Noob vs. Ashrah Rayden vs. Shinnok Cage vs. Kano Instead of Hotaru vs. Sub-Zero, should have been Hotaru vs. Shujinko which would make even more sense.

Thats what i like in the MKverse, that both chaos and order, in exageration are bad, that should be there a balance, even tough media depicts order being the best thing, that in excess can lead in to injustice and tirany. Order is something good, but chaos and inconsistency is something that makes nature, nature, we aren't perfect beings after all, so its needed a balance between both, as extremes are bad

Considering the fact that Shujinko was made a Saiden Guardsman wouldn't that make him part of the authority in The Order Realms law system? You would think the guards would be immune from punishment. If that's the case then that only makes Hotaru even worse. Never liked Hotaru for that. Being incarcerated for something as ridiculous as a curfew is one thing but to betray someone that was instrumental in helping you is just low. And for Hotaru to say he was going to testify in Shujinko's defense after keeping him in prison for years. Hotaru is a d bag
