I’ve been using Oakley line miners for years and just getting replacement lenses. I want to upgrade, but man for the price of these they would have to be an absolute game changer. Also I’m a little skeptical that the magnet would hold the lenses during a hard fall into pow.
I’ve always liked mag lenses that also had locks… I played with the M4 and the magnets for those are considerably weaker than what’s on the M5 - better yet, the M5 magnets are a big upgrade from previous versions. I’m definitely biased to goggles that come with a spare set of lenses - which is why I didn’t get into the Oakleys. I’ll be sure to put up a video after I take that fall!! 🤣😅
Merry Christmas, I watched your reviews great stuff, I am from Romania. I have a question, I ordered the Anon M5 and now I have second thoughts about this, I know the M4 are larger but the view? Periferal, wide, etc is the same or better on the M4? I am a snowboarder and for me the thing that counts is the view. The M5 frame, smaller than the M4 afects the view? Thank you and have agreat year end.
Anon claims that the toric design is supposed to give you an “enhanced” view - I think the difference between the M4 and M5 is the shape of the lens, and the curvature of the M5 lens wouldn’t have a full contact with the M4’s magnets. I’d like to hear about your experience with the M5 after you get a chance to play in the snow with them! Have fun and avoid avalanches! 🤘🏽
Can you tell me, is the frame size of the M5S the same as the M4S both the smaller version already? Wasn’t sure if it was just a lens difference or the size also? And is the new toric shape closer to the cylindrical because I do like the cylindrical on my m4 better than the toric
Aloha @markg488 - I think the biggest difference between the M4 and M5 series would be the upgraded magnets for the lens as well as the fit for the toric lens. This will be my first season with the Anon, and the same goes for the toric style lens. You’ll have roughly the same radius horizontally… the difference between the cylindrical and toric is that you’ll have a tighter radius on the vertical axis of the lens. Think of it this way: Cylindrical is a cutout from a pole. Spherical is a cutout from a globe/ball. Toric is a cutout from a donut. The donut shape is supposed to be *the way* forward, promising crisper vision on the periphery of the lens. I’m certainly looking forward to testing these out on snow! I hope that helped. 🤙🏾

The lens magnets for the M5 are considerably stronger - if you’re a hard charger that takes a heavy spill from time to time and losing a lens is a concern, maybe the M5 is the way to go. Another user commented that they’ve never had an issue with the M4’s lenses popping off. If you’re buying a few other pieces of gear and you’re trying to upgrade a few things, I’m certain the M4 would be more than enough for your needs and you can put that $70ish into a new helmet!

No worries on the questions! I very much prefer polarized lenses. That, combined with the toric design lens, gives a nice crisp view. As far as the price point, I’m not sure, but it does remind me of how Apple products have upgrades that are “slightly” better than the last… where you walk in looking for a phone case and walk out with a MacBook Pro. 🤣😂 Back to lenses - IF I had started with the M4 polarized, I’d be more inclined to upgrade to the M5 polarized.
