Hi, I'm here today to talk to you about the MV88+ Video Kit and a couple different ways you can set it up with our app for voiceover and podcasting.
So, here's the microphone itself, this is the MV88+. It comes with a micro-B port and a headphone jack, which is great to kind of sort of customize the sound before you record and monitor it for confidence while you're recording.
So, here's a mic clip that also comes in the bag. We're going to just simply snap that right in, make sure the black Shure logo is on top and the "L" and the "R" are facing left and right respectively.
There's also a phone clamp in the bag. We're not actually going to be using it for this setup here today.
We're going to take the quarter inch thread at the bottom of the clip and go right into our Manfrotto tripod. There's a red button here. You push it in, you get access to this ball head adaptor, which is really nice to be able to position this however you like.
We're going to grab our micro-B cable, plug it into the back of the mic and plug the lightning end into our, my phone right here, and I'll go ahead and use that nice adjustment to get that microphone pointing up towards me, even though I'm on a table that's a little bit lower.
So now we're in the app and here's really where the settings come alive right. There's our quick touch DSP modes up top for speech and voiceover, we're going to recommend you use this speech bubble, gets you in the ballpark really quickly. You can further customize it from there if you need to, but it gets you 80 percent of the way there right away.
So, we're also going to take it over to mono cardioid. Stereo is great for a lot of things; voiceover is not one of them.
Your voice can kind of - if you record it in stereo, it can move from left to right in your listeners' headphones and that can be a little weird sometimes. So, put it in mono cardioid, it focuses just on what's in front.
Leave the limiter on. Compressor, I'm going to recommend either the light or medium, which are kind of just a little bit of level control, keeps it nice and even. Or if you're going for more of a movie voiceover, the heavy setting will really change the tone of what you're doing.
High Pass Filter you should leave at 75, maybe 150, if you're in a noisier environment.
There's also a five band EQ that you can add or add or subtract some bass or some high end, even further customize the sound however you need.
What's great about all this is, all these settings that you do in the app live in the microphone themself. So, you can set it up here and then take the microphone with those settings and plug them into whatever you like. Our app records, but you don't have to use our after recording.
There is one other set up I wanted to show you which is great for sort of interviews, either for a podcast or a radio interview something along those lines.
I'm going to take the microphone, put it sideways. Just for demonstration purposes, I'm going to remove the windscreen.
Go over to the app and put it in mono bidirectional mode. So, this actually turns off the front of the microphone and only picks up across this way.
So, if I'm having a guest on my podcast, we're both being picked up equally by the microphone, and it gets recorded into the app.
It looks a little goofy, but it's a really great way to get two people in on just one microphone really quickly and easily.
So that's the MV88+ and a couple of different ways you can set it up for voiceover or podcasting.
