UPDATE: Shure has recently updated the Motiv app and there a few graphical changes. A key change to look for is the headphone monitor mix which is no longer located to the right of the Mic Gain slider. It is now found on the top right hand corner of the app and represented by a headphones icon. Cheers! -GMA

Thank you, I just purchased one and appreciate the tutorial. I'm going to try it this weekend at an outdoor festival for recording some of the shows. I don't know how close I can get but it appears that I need to be as close as possible. Thanks again!
@GoodMorningAudio
@GoodMorningAudio 7 месяцев назад
You are welcome and I hope the endeavor goes well! CLOSE is good for most sound sources but a big festival with a loud PA, just find the best sounding spot. Loudness wise you'll probably be fine most anywhere unless you are in the back of the place! Cheers!

Honestly it wasn't. I used a Shure SM7B. I SHOULD have though you are right! As I only had the one MV88+ and I was making a bunch of vids at the time I didn't even consider swapping out my mic. Foolish in retrospect! Cheers!

Thanks! I'd played around a bunch with the original MV88 and it's form factor was, I think, fairly awkward. I'm completely down with this iteration of the mic. Sounds great and works well! Cheers!

My question is just starting out with youtube i do notice i need more then the iPhone microphone. I already have a tripod with a ring light which has a phone clamp. How do you suggest I add this to that tripod? the only reason I haven’t gotten it yet. I don’t want to start over with a new tripod and this one is so small. I need something taller. Thanks.
@GoodMorningAudio
@GoodMorningAudio 3 года назад
Sorry for the slow response! The clamp for this mic IS tripod friendly and the mic is camera shoe friendly as well so I'd be shocked if you could find some way to mount it. Without seeing what you have I can't promise but I bet you can get it on there . MAAAAYBE you'd need an adapter but i doubt it. Cheers!

Hi, and thanks for this vid. I used a MV88, equipped with a lightning connector with an iPad Air 2. Now, I’ve got an iPad Air 4, equipped with an USB C connector. So, I can’t use my mic anymore. It’s impossible to find an adaptor lightning to USB C, managing the audio part. Any idea to solve that issue. Thanks. Alain

@GoodMorningAudio 3 года назад
Sorry for the slow response! GOOD NEWS! Skip the lighting cable all together... you just need an micro-USB to USB-C cable and you are set! This has been working GREAT with my iPad Air 4!

Would that be a good option for sound healing instruments plus vocal sound together? Like chimes, bells, and also shaman drum or crystal bowl and voice together? Thank you!
@GoodMorningAudio
@GoodMorningAudio 7 месяцев назад
I think it could do a decent job for sure. You main considerations would be the room and placement. The MIX between your instruments and voice would have to be done organically. What you do would largely be dependent how loud the instruments are compared to the voice. That and how reverberate is the room you are in? I think the mic would capture the performance well for sure though. Remain playful with microphone placement and I'm betting you can find some good results!

Thanks! Well done. I have a question. I am trying to record voice (speaking) and flute demonstrations in the same video. And I am experiencing some problems finding the right setting for that. What would be the ideal setting for that? I been trying different configurations and in general voice sound less loud than the flute. Quality is ok but the problem is balance bettween voice and flute. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!
@GoodMorningAudio
@GoodMorningAudio 9 месяцев назад
That's going to be tricky with a single microphone. I'll brainstorm a couple of options for you though because what's more fun than an audio problem? lol. So IDEALLY, you'd try to address a situation like this with two microphones. One for the voice and one for the instrument. ESPECIALLY when the instrument is going to be significantly louder than the voice is going to be and ESPECIALLY if the voice and instrument are in close proximity to each other. When recorded like this you could mix the two mics independently of each other and you'd be set. If you are only planning on using the MV88+ on it's own, a good option, if possible, would be to recording the instruction separately from the performing, though I suspect that this is going to REALLY up the amount of time you spend editing the video. If you want to speak and play in one take with just the MV88+, you could try this out: Set the MV88+ to a figure 8 pattern (referred to as Mono Bidirectional) in the manual and app). This is more or less setting up the MV88+ to have two mono microphones pointed in opposite directions. You could set the levels on the mic for your speaking voice, keep one side of the mic (it might help to get a long cable for this and clip the mic to a boom stand) around 3 inches away from your mouth and have the other side pointed down the length of the flute. This isn't IDEAL as you are way off axis from the flute but the MV88 is pretty sensitive and the flute can be pretty loud. You'll need to edit the audio later so you can split the channels, center them and re-adjust the volume for each independently. Some extra considerations... I'd probably turn on the peak limiter to avoid the excessive volume of the flute clipping the recording. If you are in a room with a lot reverb, the further from the sound source you are, the greater the reverberation will sound in the recording, that might be a nice effect on the flute, but distracting on the voice, hence keeping the mic closer to your mouth. Another maybe simpler option, set the mic up MONO CARDIOID, place it directly n front of you maybe 3 or 4 feet away, like directly on the phone when you are filing, recording everything as is, and later when editing edit all of the spoken sections and place them on a new track, raise the volume of the voice and use some kind of restoration/reverb removal tool to temper the excessive room noise and reverberation the voice will probably have compared to the flute. Depending on your skill level.. something simple to use might be DxRevive. There are of course more complicated and effective tools but DxRevive is pretty good and pretty easy to use. It's a tricky problem but maybe some of these ideas will work or, at the very least., inspire a new solution to come to you while trying! Hopefully some of this helps!

I bought a mv7 and I can’t even use it bc the app won’t load? 😫 the mv7 also won’t recognize to my iPhone 14 Pro Max with the special cord from Shure they recommended?!😳 any help you can give me? 🙏

Hi The Mic can connect to the wireless headphone?
@GoodMorningAudio

Unfortunately no. iOS can't recognize more than one audio device at a time. So when the MV88 is connected, you'll need to use your wired headphones. I hope that helps!

I'd recommend keep the LIMITER ON and the COMPRESSOR OFF. I'd also make sure manual gain adjustment was lowered so the meters aren't smashed against their max values.

So, this won't work on PC,... nor will it work without an amplifier? I want a mic to listen to ambient sounds (ASMR) which needs to fit under an eave on an exterior wall (it wouldn't get wet), connected via a USB cable to a Windows 11 PC so it will pick up wind, rain, thunder, birds etc. Would this suit that task?
@GoodMorningAudio
@GoodMorningAudio 2 года назад
Kris, This will definitely work with a PC. On it's own it won't work with an amplifier, though technically once connected to a computer you could use it's headphone out as an analog audio source should really want to do that but that's probably not what you mean. "I want a mic to listen to ambient sounds (ASMR) which needs to fit under an eave on an exterior wall (it wouldn't get wet), connected via a USB cable to a Windows 11 PC so it will pick up wind, rain, thunder, birds etc. Would this suit that task?" You could do that absolutely.

@@GoodMorningAudio I bought the less expensive Movo VXR10 shotgun mic,. it picked up no sound worth listening to (just its own electrical circuitry noise), no matter where I pointed it,. I guess its pick-up is just too weak. Instead I bought a very cheap Aukey 1080p webcam and installed that outside; it works a charm, though I can't dampen the wind buffeting it gets, which sucks. I can hear birds, foxes barking and yelping, trees rustling in the wind, rain etc, but also the nearby boiler exhaust outlets, sadly (omnidirectional mic' obv').
@GoodMorningAudio
@GoodMorningAudio 2 года назад
Thanks for the heads up on the Movo VXR10. A bummer it didn't work out for you! :( I'll take at look at that webcam though! "Cheap" and "Webcam" are two words I like to see together especially if they work well!

Hello quick techncial question about the Shure MV88 Mic. Will it take over from the internal iPad mic without needing to run the shure app to do so? So say for example I want to run the mic directly into a music making app like "koala sampler" or "beatmaker pro" to capture my guitar, percussion etc as direct samples will this work?

In all honesty I think it’s a pretty great mic for voice and guitar. in it’s price range for mobile gear I think it’s probably the best option. There’s always “bigger and better” but that’s always adding more layers and dollars. For its price (considering you already own the phone/camera/supercomputer) it really can’t be beat.
